I know. The copy paste is awful..
Wow the viper is na and 2nd on the list
That's what i needed. Thanks :)
The Kansas Dude thank you i know now the leaderboard 😁
SUB-ZERO Viper is NA and manual
Four Porsches on the list, three of them are 911's. Wow.
No leaderboard? Makes no sense, the laptime means nothing if I can't compare it to other cars.
It's basically a tire commercial.
The Ford GT ran 1 hundredth of a second faster.. lol
@@slowanddeliberate6893 tires are very important and relevant in evaluating a cars performance lol. Tires make some of the biggest difference in performance.
@@TougeTime Yeah, but this wouldn't be the first time a Motor Trend segment was sponsored by a tire company.
@@slowanddeliberate6893 i mean. They're the tires that come on the car. Same thing in their other videos. Also how else would they make money? At least it's relevant not like they are advertising protein shakes lol
The ZR1 is absolutely stunning. Can't wait to see what the mid engine vette looks like
@Zero Cool let's see. That would be exciting to watch!
The C8 is gonna destroy the competition 💪🏾
They should really call it something else. Corvettes are not mid engined.
@Zero Cool I agree but not until a few years when the higher end models come out.
@Zero Cool it is all ready killing the ;)
I’m surprised it still couldn’t beat the ACR. I guess the Viper will forever be the best RWD, Front-Engined road car on the track. That Vette sounds so amazing though.
I can't believe the Ford GT and the ZR1 ran nearly identical times. Crazy..
I would bet if the vette had R compound tires like the ACR it would be a race.
Seems like on high speed tracks its the ZR1, technical tracks the ACR...
@@xjmg007 Trofeo R's are DOT street legal just like the corvette's pilot sport cup 2s are.
@@V8Supercar1 yes they are both DOT approved I know. But one is an R compound the other is not.
I've ran several R compound tires.
Randy Pobst has the coolest job in the world.
Randy is always on 🔥🔥🔥and the vette iz beast king
Randy had a cold...you could hear it in his voice. He still did amazing.
I love the way he hits those corners, I got to admit this car is a beast!!!
This Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is amazing! Thank you so much for the video!
7th place isn’t amazing
Slip, Sliding...Away! What a Beast of Vette!
Randy is a badass!
Even knows what to do w/a cell phone when standing next to a ZR1. Badass!
The thing to do being fake (vs take) a selfie. :)
Randy is the American Walter Röhrl.
Wow!!! OUTSTANDING performance.
Now this is what the Zr1 was built for, not drag racing! Mopar boys
Brian Samuels still didn’t beat the ACR time. Mopar.
@@userduo Look at the prep they did for lapping that car. Special settings and tuning the whole afternoon. Not taking anything away for the ACR but it wasn't dialed in to factory specs from the owners manual like the Corvette is. Plus motor trend themselves even made a point to talk about all the prep the ACR got that others don't get.
@@EGGINFOOLS Wonder what the ACR could've turned with 750hp? When does the law of diminishing returns kick in, at least on this track?
@@jeremyb4493 Good point. Although I think the 755hp in the Vette may have made it worse.
EGGINFOOLS - how many excuses do gm fanboys come up with ? You guys always talk about how the corvette beat the Ford GT at VIR when the corvette literally went there with the purpose of breaking a record. Not only that it went through 6 sets of tires was there for a whole week with an army of engineers. The Ford Gt on the other hand was testing out equipment and only ran three laps did NOT get a change of tires, and broke the record by accident. The Ford Gt will eat up the Zr1 on the track. Period. Gm fanboys are the biggest hypocrites that exist. Ford made the Ford Gt to win LeMans and it did it, it did not to build it to set pointless lap times that will be topped next year.
The ZR1 is an amazing machine. Everything about it is awesome except that automatic trans. Belongs in a Silverado. It’s only decent at WOT upshifts. Literally every other scenario it’s horrible. PDK is the opposite, I hate to admit but the new C8 platform is rumored to get a DCT, or a proper automatic. Exciting because the C7 was amazing minus the auto
That fast of a lap? For a 120k car? What a steal!
I have always loved modern Corvette's since the C5 Z06. In fact, that's the Corvette I am still lusting for. One day. (:
Plenty of C5 Z06's out there that have been taken care of and are cheap! You got this man.
Anderson Jukebox Thank you Anderson. Such a great and encouraging community we have here. I am humbled!
I track a Cadillac at Grattan. The fastest car last year was a 17 Grand Sport. It was amazing fast. The corvettes are far and away the best sports car value in the world.
I feel like this would be more interesting if there was a list of comparable cars lap times put up at the end for ranking similar to Top Gear
The new Ford GT ran 1 hundredth of a second faster. :p
The 720s was almost 2 seconds faster.
The GT2RS ran a 1:21.08

Simply the Beast!!!
Track length is 2.5 vs cayman 2.3 and ZR1 had much better lap time. Simply phenomenal!
I believe Randy was driving an automatic, they are faster in a straight line then manual, but on the track GM’s auto are slower on tracks then Manuals. Furthermore GM ran the car for 24 hours on the track only stopping for gas and tires when it beat Ford GT lap time, google it. So the whole heat issue is resolved. I personally own a Z06 Z07 and a 2019 ZR1. I added GM after market radiator and another one to combat the over heating on the Z06 and it solved the problem FYI.
GT2 RS 1:21.08. Finish line MPH 159.
720S (street tire) 1:21.75/mph 163.
ZR1 1:23.70/mph 154.
GM has some work to do!
I believe the porsche gt2rs had cup2R tires, which already isnt fair to compare to the zr1. The power is also way underrated, those cars dyno higher than what they're advertised at. Also the car has 4 wheel steering. Pair all of that with being 4-500lbs lighter etc and it beat the zr1 by 2 seconds. Plus randy didn't have the Cleanest of laps.
Either way it comes with in 2 seconds of a car that costs 400k.
Only a second off the huracan performante..pretty good for a quarter of the price! With a few more laps i think they would be even
Randy the Racing Robot is the best!
Wooowww!!! A brilliant car...looks are fantastic..makes rear engine cars look..ordinary....the performance is fantastic also.
First he sais "so much grip" and then "the challenge is to put that power down" 😂🤣😂
I think the second one is the true one.
There is a very big difference between Grip and Traction, the ZR1 has lots of Grip but lacks Traction
The tires are nice and grippy. But 750 HP is a lot of power, and it's hard to put that kind of power down
The only place i’d like to drive that car is the track. Feel free to throw on a set of Toyo R888 and rent the 3 mile Track at Thunderhill... I would also like to go clockwise around the track. That would be the first place to take this thing out and have a blast. Update with all the good high temp fluids in your brake set up and let it rip all day.
Can the old dude and get randy with the classic crew. This video is really a let down. End of an era.
WHAT A CAR
I WANT THAT
whats happened to the ignition series ? canceled ?
Looks like a handful
@Zero Cool true but even Randy was having a hard time you saw how late he floored out corner exit and all the counter steering was hilarious
@@BigBodyRacing Was the track cold this time of year? can make a big difference for grip. Kinda need the track to be not cold and it will have much more grip and most likely a better time even?
@@Smokealotapotamous very true great detail and respectfully yeah Cali is cold at the moment although I've seen a few auto journalists complain how the chassis is overwhelmed by the zr1's power, if that's anything to go by.
I’m only here for Randy.
My fav corvette is the z06 but i still love the zr1
Who remembers the non-stop buzz around this vehicle before its release and now ya don't see or hear squat. All the UA-camrs who were praising early on and purchased have gotten rid of them for one reason or another. Makes me think a 6 figure Vette is a move in the wrong direction for Chevy.
I would like to see a true Hot Lap when the tires are warmed up after all didn't an Engineer already smoke these times. Well Watson yes he did!!!!!!!
Ok, so,Logically i should not complain or gripe about the corvettes at all. Here is a sports car with supercar performance for the price of a sportscar, And it achieves this not with a miriad of modern tech, but instead mostly yesteryear grass roots technology massaged and perfected. It gets the job done and its still something not so far removed from owners wrenching on themselves. But like the jerk i must be, there remains lots that i find is long overdue and long in the tooth. As such im really happy to see this layout be put to bed in favor of the C8 mid engine. Plain and simply the current corvette and all its iterations has gone as far as it can go in regards to its limits, what its up against by its mid engine rivals and its overal worth. the car severely needs an all new look. as its been small increments in design since the c6. It time for Corvette to leap into the modern age, and yet, not be so far removed from its current attainability. The c8 looks to accomplish juet that, an affordable mid engine supercar. no more ungainly old fashioned bulging hoods that obscure visibility , it time to adapt of be left behind. so with the debut of the c8 i say...The King is Dead! ... Long live the King!
Not a sports car kinda guy, but I'd love to tear that thing up for an afternoon
Sucks when they dont put numbers up to put things into perspective.....like how did this zr1 compare to the last one
That’s car is at Feldman Chevrolet for sale
b.e.a.u.t.i.f.u.l
Hey Motor trend, why dint Randy use the Paddle Shifters .. I’d feel he could got a better lap time if he’d had shifted ..
This is a supercar
It’s a good pretender
Dude , it needs a comparison between other competitors, the time itself unless you memorize it or go look it up somewhere (doesn't seem to be linked info). It's an insignificant number unless your u have something to compare it with
Best zr1👍
Put those same brand tires on the 720s and it will no doubt post the best lap time on this track.
Without a doubt! But I applaud mclaren for sticking with tyres which are best suited to road driving. None of them are good track cars compared to actual race cars like the mclaren 570 gt4 or huracan gt3 so why even bother sacrificing its road capabilities.
@@WeirdBrick
Well, I am with you in applauding Mclaren for sticking with the Pirelli tires/tyres for road use....especially since the 720s is really more of a GT supercar, being the successor of the 650s (as opposed to the 675LT, which is more track-focused). But, in my opinion, the company should've offered the Michelin PS cup 2 tires/tyres as an option (especially since it now has TRACK PACK for the 720s). That's just my take on it.
@Peder Hansen
The 720s comes from the factory wearing Pirelli tires (305mm to the rear). So, the tires on the Z06 and ZR1 are much wider. But, I believe if the 720s is fitted with the Cup2 tires (including rear 315 or 325 mm), we will definitely see an improvement in the performance of the car.
When Brooks (Dragtimes) used the Toyo RRR tires (rear 315mm) on the 720s, the car's acceleration/performance improved (although not significantly). But the Cup2 are tires designed for better performance around tracks. So, it will definitely help improve the 720s track times.
Wait for the C8 with that kind of power
Nice driving Randy
Why repost the exact same video from drivers car week? Or the caparison against the 911gtrs and Mclaren 720s.
Wish the supercharger on my Corvette sounded like that
Remember when MotorTrend videos were entertaining?
The ZR1 is actually 755 hp not 750 hp but who is counting, right?
Cool tire commercial
I was hopping for more details to be honest. Lap time compared to..? I don't know... The car is so gopd6so amazing Bla Bla Bla
Both of my C7 Z06s do not have that supercharger whine. Wish they did.
Didn't this ZR1 lose timing or something? Didn't a coil go bad? I believe I saw the unedited video on the net when the driver was complaining about power loss? Anyone know what up ?
I think the mistake here was that they did not give Randy a manual ZR1 to drive on this track. I'm sure he would have gotten a much better time than the automatic.
...........ahhhhhhhhhh......but he's manually shifting the auto anyways.....wtf is the difference. That auto shifts way faster than a manual.........
Just add up all the time in between shifts in a manual and add it up. It'll be a few seconds for sure added to the time.
can we have an Aventador SV with Trofeo R tyres ??
Awesome😍
That's like the icon of Nissan skyline of course or supra yeah
That car is fast as a aver
the zl1 is getting this engine…
2.7 seconds behind the Porche GT.2 RS. PER LAP.
Porsche is underrated on power, has 4 wheel steering, and has pilot sport cup 2R tires. It better.
McLaren Senna would destroy that 911 GT2 time.
Yes. It is over $1.0MM.
Tim Brant idk I’d like to see that race Porsche is no joke
Wow.
I hope you guys do the Senna
Was the car automatic?
Head to head ... this vs acr
I’ll take three
Ok I want a ZR1. Michelins are the best tire period dot.
Toyo R888Rs are much better.
Erek K I disagree.
Cool tire commercial.
1:21 overshoot the corner, miss the apex, he need to be more gentle, from what I see the corvette is not calm car, always the rear try to run away :D
Just realized it was auto I think randy might of got a better time in the manual.
Nice commercial.
Nice commercial for a excellent product
aוτimgamr motortrend is more biased towards imports
The commercials are ridiculous, they should bring back "like a rock"
Can someone tell me how to get this guys job
2 rich guys on youtube,i feel that guy wasnt the guy to put behind the wheel of that car as he didnt seem to be able to control the car smooth and looked to be very hard on and off the throttle causing drift and didnt have the finess of pedal skills to handle that kind of power in a rwd. my guess is he drives off road or rally cars with awd and small displacement vehicles with low torque and high rpm power bands
Must be honest not a vette fan boi . It looks like GM/Corvette engineers knocked it out of the park this time atleast over the past Z06/ZR1 & it’s issues that haunted owners & GM . Yes I too want to see more on the mid engine vette to debut the world .
I think u can get a better time in the manual bc the gears accel better on the top end
...........ahhhhhhhhhh......but he's manually shifting the auto anyways.....wtf is the difference. That auto shifts way faster than a manual.........
@@TheDirtyBirchTrails literally half a tenth depending on the driver this man on this video knows how to drive a manual better then me and u with a manual and hes probly alot faster then both of us if u dont believe me look at zero to 60s auto vs manual so no the manual aint slower the driver just aint fast enough and no i didnt notice him using paddle shifters sorry

@@userduo is there anything wrong with that????
you got to have one of these comments....................Not as good as my GTR...
This car desperately needs stickier tires at the back. Either a compound change or just run true "R" tires and expect replacements every few thousand miles (or less). There's so much time left due to traction issues at the rear that it's tragic. Properly shod this would eat the Porsche GT2 RS.
Has the program Roadkill been terminated???
Its not on UA-cam ,you have to go to motor trend on demand
Hey its bill nye
Old Dodge Viper ACR over 2 seconds faster than the Vette ZR1..... with less power! Just goes to show, more power makes you go slower.......
