I live near the speedway at a walkable distance. Idk if a shorter track will attract more people. It’s SoCal people don’t like sports people like other things
It's 2023 and when I watch the updates, I get more and more of a sinking feeling that NASCAR is just spinning their wheels and this project ( which is late as it is) will be further delayed, when (if) racing resumes-it won't be as good as they hope ( we need another Bristol like a rabbit needs a shoehorn)
I thought these were just rumors at first, but it's actually going to happen. They already took down all the grandstands in turns 1 and 4. The new short track should be ready for at least 2024. That's all I know so far.
Very heartbroken!! It makes me cringe! That was a great track '97 tracks aren't that old! I think they just want to sell off a lot of the land which is big money in California!
If we do end up losing irwindale speedway to that new investment group that bought the property maybe this could take its place. We'll have one big CUP race then local short track racing the rest of the year.

Man, that track has sucked every year!! Throwing the yellow with 30 or less laps does not make it great finishes or anything but pathetic!! If they can’t give great racing from start to finish from the lead back, it’s a bad track!! Even when the cars were still actual race cars, the racing sucked!!
I disagree, there have been some amazing finishes and great racing for years at the speedway. The last few seasons haven’t been as good due to the current aero package but not all 20+ years have been bad.
It's getting towards the end of 2023 and almost nothing has been done. I'll believe it when I see it...and I live here.

Shorter track = smaller attendance for full capacity which = higher ticket prices to get in. I don’t know why everyone is on the boat on this one

I have never been a fan of SLOW short track racing, I enjoyed the Pala casino 400 and have no desire to attend a short track race😑
That land is worth a hell of a lot of money in this area...
That’s why the 2 mile track is being demoed and a 1/2mi track is taking its place.

Well Alan you weren't far off on this except that the track is absolutely off the schedule and I am not optimistic that it returns.

COVID prevented these changes, but the outcome of the 2022 race will determine if the speedway in Fontana stays a 2 mile track or becomes a 1/2 track.

Nascar sucks.. cart and INDYCAR were great there… but the Nascar races from 2011-2015 were pretty good
When is nascar gonna get rid of those boring races at Daytona and Talladega ? Talk about boring races ! Hey how about a race on the beach again ?
