I lived in Gravesend in the 1950s/60s and remember the market really well but it is only the building that is the same. We had a guy called Strong and he was a famous market salesman in that market and many more in the county. He would be there with his big removal truck, selling his wares from the back of the truck, he wouls shout and yell and sell loads of cheap stuff, there was always a crowd around Strongy's truck. Every Saturday mum would take me and my brother off to the market but in summer we preferred the Lido where we would all meet, a whole gang of us and spend all afternoon there. I have fond memories of that town but I salied away on my first ship in 1969 and never went back, my dad had to move to Southampton with his job, so I came back from one trip at sea to find myself going home to Southampton. Growing in and around Gravesend was agreat time for me.
Remember this market growing up 60s 70s not been there for years shocked to see how it's changed Remember big xmas tree out side entrance and strongy selling from back van

Not been to the refurb yet… what’s it like?
@@marketstallsUK The refurb for me ..is what you've shown 😊
I live in Newcastle at the moment but thinking of moving to gravesend, what do u think about the place? is it any good?
Gravesend has its very nice parts in town and by the riverside and then again Kent is the garden of England.
The guy round the top of the high street sells the best fruits ever… the best quality wise and also quantity in the southeast…. Cheeky camera man.
I concur to that guy
Have to go to gravesend market it’s very old .
Many thanks for watching new episode out this Friday
That's not the High Street it's New Road. A Gravesender would know that.
A dying town😢
I think Bluewater finished off the businesses in Gravesend and surrounding areas… or what do you think
Dreadful market, mostly empty and full of over priced rubbish. The council ruined the market. Hence why this video shows no public in the place....
In 80s 90s was really good market gone down hill now like London market now over top now town is going more London town
Well it’s the same all over the world at the moment… have a look at our other vids from other parts of the world
Loved strongly sat mornings in market then down to the kent hape days 60s
