What a fantastic interview. Despax is beautifully articulate in English, it kind of makes you wonder how much more deeply he might express himself in his native language. Great to be reminded that the only time the low B occurs in the Liszt Sonata is at the very end. How often is this missed?
Arrau went to play Bach on a modern grand piano after listening to his own recording of the Goldberg variations. The was in 1987 . His last recording was 4 Bach Partitas . That was in 1991 , 3 months before his death.
