  • Which is a better buy, a corded or cordless jigsaw? In this corded and cordless jigsaw review, Andrew compared his favorite corded jigsaw to a new 20 volt cordless model. In this cordless jigsaw comparison, Andrew tries each saw in some taxing situations to see how they measure up.

    Did he placed the metal blade backwards on the Bosch? That table is not securing the material well enough. I think he used both tools incorrectly.

    *Works great. For the price this thing is awesome **MyBest.Tools** Rips through plywood no problem. The quick release mechanism to put in blades is great too - very fast and secure.*

    There's a substantial price difference between those two. In addition, that battery pack is tiny. On my cordless I use 5 Ah batteries on the jigsaw, circular saw and SDS drill and all work really well in my experience. For me, the convenience factor of cordless is enormous.

    Thanks for the review! I think it's all about intended use. Light cutting or quick diy projects I think this would work. But heavy cutting or just heavy use in general is always going to benefit from the endless power of a cord (and likely better internal components). I'm getting this in a kit soon and I also got a couple 5ah batteries specifically for the saws in the kit because I know they are hungry for power. I'm not expecting to cut a car in half, just stuff around the house and light remodel work.

    I think you should have installed a "new" blade in the Bosch before trying to cut the metal.

      You're right. Some WD40 would have helped too. We were just excited to mess around with a new tool.
      I have used the cordless a few times since the video was shot and I enjoy the convenience. It's doesn't drain the battery too badly.

    I have an older Bosch and constantly have tracking issues out of it. I've owned 3 over the years and have always had good luck with them. Recently purchased a PC cordless and love it. So much easier to work with. I'm sure my Bosch is lots of operator error but just not certain what it is. The PC has yet to fail me. Think I'll stick with the PC for awhile.

    I have that PC saw. I use it when the work will take less time than unwinding plugging and rewinding the cord of my bosch barrel handle saw. The blade on the PC saw falls out doing tight curves.

    I would be interested in seeing how easy angle adjustments are made and do they hold?

    • @anamericanartisan9846
      @anamericanartisan9846  6 років тому

      Hi Steve,
      Good idea. I have done a number of angle cuts with the Bosch and I find I get best results using a Bosch T101B blade where the teet point toward the saw and help draw the work peice toward the saw . When I use a T101B blade, the teeth point away from the saw and the saw can bounce a bit if the blade binds. Blades bind a bit more when cutting at an angle.
      The Bosch holds the angle well as it has a nut that tightens with an Allen wrench to hold it firmly in place. I haven't used the Porter-Cable for angles yet but it has a similar mechanism.
      Based on the comments on this video I think we should revisit it. If we do I will try to fit this topic in.

    I bought this jigsaw yesterday and the clamp that holds the beveling clamp on the bottom chartered today. The clamp is made from a cheap porous metal instead of a hardened metal. I will get another Porter Cable 20v jig saw but I will have to make a custom holding clamp from a hardened metal. I do like the PC line of tools and I have several PC tools but the holding clamp needs to be made from a hardened metal instead of the cheap porous metal.

    I watched this yesterday and “slept on it”, but I’m afraid I must comment. Firstly, it's not right to compare corded to cordless. I'm sure that the corded can provide both more power and higher rpm simultaneously than the cordless. Then since a jigsaw cuts on the upstroke, it is essential to have the workpiece both clamped at the far end and the near end unless you are careful not to allow any upward movement of the saw plate, which I detected. Additionally when the cordless appeared to slow you not only lifted the saw plate from the workpiece, but you tilted it forward negating the forward undercutting produced by the orbital action. You must let the machine do the work.

    First a fair test like this the porter cable should have a freshly charged battery for each cut. The bosch is getting full power for each cut. Second each saw should have a new blade for each cut the exact same blade unused. To me this is a fair test!!!!

  • @zainep.3817
    @zainep.3817 4 роки тому

    Use a thinner blade for tight turns. Also hold the Porter Cable firmer and more downward pressure.
    You have to take into account cordless tools naturally don't have as much power as corded. Also saws use A LOT more power than drills, use a bigger battery if you're making more than a few cuts at a time. I have a PC Driver, Drill combo with two 2ah batteries and a Circular Saw-the saw cuts clean and fast with the 2ah but not nearly as well with a 1.3ah battery. (PC also has a 1.5ah and a 2ah but I haven't used those yet) As batteries get larger they give more power and runtime.
    And why would anyone use a jigsaw to cross cut a 4x4?!

  • @leonarddavis3684
    @leonarddavis3684 3 роки тому

    At 8:30 that you went through the 1st thick wall to fast with the Port Cable, not happening that fast, tells me it was precut. Plus you probably damaged the blade with the 1st cut and should have put a new blade in the Bosch. There is know doubt in my mind that the Bosch corded should have out done the cordless Porter Cable. Mobility belongs to Port Cable.

    First! you are compairing the very best jigsaw ever made against a mid range corless tool with a 1.3amp battery. Now I would say that battery should only be used in a drill. For saws you should run their 4amp battery. The tool will run and perform much better. But no cordless jigsaw with ever compete agaist the king of jigsaws.

      I have both corded and battery jigsaws. I use the corded exclusively in the shop. And I take the battery powered with me to the lumber yard because they almost always have material that is 12-16 ft long and I can't put that in my truck. I find the jigsaw safer to use than the circular saw (no binding) when cutting the material to transportable lengths.

      That does not mean it has more power...
      The Bosch 18v batteries are fused at 120A internally. thats (in theory) 2160W. Your American sockets can not provide that.
      Even if the Saw does not pull 120Amps, it probably gets to >50A which would be around 1000W of power...almost the max. rated output power of an American standard socket.
