I kind of want one where they switch it around and tell the actors that they're pranking the one guy, but he's actually in on it and is just trying to derail the script the entire time. Basically I want an entire show built around Matt taking his hand off the hooker.

I love how the whole premise of this show is making Matt look like an idiot, but Matt consistently makes the entire production team and actors look like idiots by not sticking to the plan they had rigidly set out for him. Like, nobody thought that he would take his hand off the boob? Jury duty worked because they had branching paths built into their script, why did they not think of any other possiblities? Also, the actors are clearly not used to improv, and maybe they're good at acting out a script, but improv is a completely different skill.

(Just now watching the video so I realize I'm bumping a 3 month old comment but) That was actually a pretty unintentional thing; when they started doing the show, they were doing it as a straight up prank on him. But Matt kept being much kinder than they anticipated, so halfway through the series they pivoted and started setting things up to reward him for being so nice to everyone, basically because they started to realize they were being assholes to a really sweet, innocent person who was just trying to be friends with everyone.

Yup. I am figuring that out. I am pretty observant, but play it off... And I keep catching people I trust a lot doing crappy things. Like, had a Kobalt screwdriver go missing, and I didn't even think about someone stealing it, I just mentioned it to my dad... And then I see him standing in this odd corner of the porch and then that same hour find my screwdriver sitting atop some yarrow plants... And definitely couldn't have been there for hours or days, ntm I had noticed the thing went missing months before I even planted yarrow seeds in that location...

Except the twist is everyone in the house is straight and they don't know none of the other guys aren't gay, so they'll all have to make up backstories and 'act gay' in some likely rather stereotypical ways.

Matt Kennedy Gould - featured in this show, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he said the The Joe Schmo Show had made him feel dumb. “If I had to do it over again, I wouldn’t do the show at all,” he said. According to Gould, the reality show had come about at a difficult time in his life, and being the butt of a joke had a negative impact on him.
After a few failed attempts to get into the entertainment industry, Gould quit working entirely. He hid away in his apartment in Santa Monica, and spent his winnings from the show on marijuana and alcohol.
After The Joe Schmo Show, Matt Kennedy Gould needed to do a bit of soul-searching. After his live-in girlfriend broke up with him, Gould decided to reassess his life. He got rid of his drugs, moved back to Pittsburgh, and has been sober ever since.
After moving back to the East Coast, Gould sought help with his internal struggles and eventually found peace. He got married, and now has a two children and a stepson. He started working at a logistics company, where the most recent news confirms he still works.
Though The Joe Schmo show took a toll on Gould, it shaped his life experience. In a 2013 interview with the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, he said that the show had made him feel insecure. For years, he thought that people looked at him as the but of a joke. However, he also said that “no one has ever once in nine-plus years said something negative to [him] about it.”
Once he realized that viewers had truly liked him, he came to terms with his time on the show. When he re-watched his season, he said he was proud of how the show portrayed him. His kindness and generosity paid off in the long run. He advises future “Joe Schmos” to take the show in stride and laugh about it if they can.
As per the latest updates in 2024, Matt Kennedy Gould has chosen to keep a low profile and lead a private life away from the public eye. Despite the interest in his life post-Joe Schmo Show, Gould has consistently maintained his decision to stay out of the spotlight. This decision stems from his desire to lead a more normal and peaceful life, away from the chaos that often accompanies fame and public attention.
Gould’s experience on the “Joe Schmo Show” had a profound impact on him. While it brought him momentary fame and recognition, it also exposed him to the manipulative and often superficial world of reality television. After the show ended, he struggled with feelings of betrayal and embarrassment as he came to terms with being duped on national television. These experiences significantly influenced his decision to withdraw from public life.
Despite stepping away from the limelight, Matt Kennedy Gould has not completely severed ties with his past. He occasionally makes appearances at reality TV conventions and fan events, much to the delight of his ardent fans. In these rare public appearances, he shares anecdotes from his time on the Joe Schmo Show and reflects on his unique journey.
While there have been rumors circulating about a potential comeback or a new TV project involving Gould in 2024, these remain unconfirmed. He has expressed no explicit interest in returning to television or participating in another reality show. Instead, he seems content with his current life away from the spotlight.
In conclusion, while Matt Kennedy Gould may have retreated from public life after his stint on the Joe Schmo Show, his legacy continues to captivate audiences. His unique journey from an unsuspecting reality TV participant to a household name is a poignant reminder of the unpredictable nature of fame and the toll it can take on individuals. As of 2024, Gould remains a beloved figure in reality television history, even as he chooses to lead a private life away from the prying eyes of the public.

This guy is from my hometown, Pittsburgh, and after it ended he came into my work, a rowdy bar. I was the drunk cocktail waitress who yelled “HEY! I know you ! JOE SHMOE!!!!” He looked like a deer in the headlights but was very gracious and nice and replied with a “Yeah, hi, how’s it going?”. He really is a nice guy it seems .

If nobody already said it... Subtitles will often go all over the place at the beginning of a show when all the production teams names are being shown. The subtitles will be placed away from the names appearing as to not cover them.

Hell yeah! After Gunnar introduced me to Jury Duty, I tweeted him about the Joe Schmo Show (as I’m sure many others did) so I’m glad to see he’s kept the momentum of weird reality TV stuff and made a video on this!
Would love to see him cover other stuff like The Push or Derren Brown creations that delve into very similar ideas.

Seen "The Joe Schmo Show" and it was quite great, least early on, faking emotions partially later in the series kinda drove me away
Quite a nice show, "Jury Duty' doing it drew me in and made me think of the ol' Schmo Show, and it was great since it was more honest than later episodes/seasons of Schmo
