Hello my Nordic friend. Getting ready for deer season here. I plan to take several this year and also assist a handicapped friend take a couple for the first time in 12 years. Looking forward to that.
Video and post your hunt. Love watching you. I
I got a comment from Slovenia yesterday. Another first. Who would have thunk it?

You keep showing off them 99s and you might eventually convince me that they are a good looking gun, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t even the slightest bit interested in one. I guess I’ll start looking for one I can refinish, they are usually a little cheaper. Your ability to shoot at that distance with open sights is impressive to say the least. Good video, I enjoy seeing them.

I totally understand where you are coming from. I too thought they were ugly for a long time. I reckon I had a John Browning, Winchester out look on rifles. My kid brother opened my eyes to the Savages. They are so superior to the Winchesters it is incredible. I eventually came to view even their looks as head and shoulders above my beloved Winchesters. Still like my Winchesters and Marlins, but the 99 is without question the better rifle. Feel, balance, speed of operation, and accuracy, they are in a class of their own.
Many of the later models suffered from financial stress on the company. Still great rifles except in the wood work. Down right clunky looking and feeling compared to the earlier models. I would suggest you look at the EG models. Most are pretty good “as is”, and need only minor work on the stocks, and they have the classic Schnoble fore ends. Very classic.
Thank you for your thoughtful comments.
      Dennis

Most Savage 99’s are extremely accurate. If I could see my sights better no telling how accurate this one is.

Great video Dennis. Tried to shoot my EG last week and I struggled to see the front sight. Went to the doctor this afternoon and he said the cataracts was causing my problem but, doc it's almost hunting season let's do it later. Guess I'll have it done after season!

I watched a video where someone used reverse bifocal glasses.
The normal vision in on the bottom and the magnified section is on top.
This is done for shooters. I may have to try this myself.

I did that many years ago for IDPA pistol matches, and for handgun hunting. Worked great for me.. You might want to give it a try.

My load came straight from the Fifth Edition of the Hornady reloading manual. It features the Hornady 180 grain SP bullet and near max charge of IMR 3031 powder.
Also shoot the same bullet with 4895 with good results.

Good luck getting your glasses just right, my last two pairs have been what I call so so, waiting on my new pair coming next week I hope. I know what its like to have eye problems especially your dominant eye and it is major pain. So Dennis good luck with the glasses and hunting this season.

We finally just went with a mono fit, but it is reverse from what it was. Thankfully I don’t need glasses at all except fine print up close, and seeing my front sight clearly while using iron sights. That means 99% of the time I go without glasses, which is great.

@@dennispritchardoutdoors7882 that is great news, glad to hear it. I kinda have a soft spot for people with eye problems especially good people who hunt. I lost my right eye back in 98 to cancer , yes right eye dominate and right handed but good Lord willing and trying different things still deer hunting with a gun anyway. Dennis glad it worked out good for you and good luck this season. May God bless 🙏

I stumbled into a Savage 99 in .250-3000. Now I am scrounging for ammo. Will eventually reload once I get it and experience it.

I saw a totally butchered takedown model at Cabella's last week. Drilled and tapped, screw in swivels, stock cut, recoil pad and checkering done with a dull jack knife. $1200.

Maybe you can help me. I have my dad’s old Savage 99 in 303 Savage. I have found a few boxes of ammo for it and was hoping to reload for it after. Where can I find load data for the 303 Savage. It’s a beautiful gun , hardly used , built in the late 20’s or early 30’s. Thanks

I Googled up an article by shooting times. com that has some pretty good info. And the Savage Face Book site will
no doubt have someone who can help you also.
And I have a very old Lyman reloading manual that has data for the 303. I would text you a photo of that data if I had a number to send the photo to.
