I had a pack of Neewer replacement LP-E17 for my 200D. They worked really well for about a year, then both batteries started swelling up and no longer fit in the camera - nor would I risk using a swollen battery. I also have a set of Neewer batteries for my 7D Mark ii and they have been working solidly so far with no concern whatsoever and really great price!

I have used Neewer batteries on 2 Canon cameras and I think the only thing I would say is that the Neewer battery life span is shorter. But when I needed more batteries I still bought myself some more Neewer batteries. I have one of my cameras for over 7years now and the original Canon battery is still going strong, where as the first set of Neewer batteries have swollen and I can't use them anymore.

bought a set when when my 5D mark IV batteries (original once) where running out, now Use them in my R5 and 5Div, and even bought a second set. I really enjoy the fact you can charge 3 batteries at the same time with the neewer charger, no need to go get out of bed at night to swap the battery in the original charger.

I have 8 batteries, 6 Neewer and 2 genuine Canon. Had them quite a while and gone through many charging cycles, with no issues at all. Only battery that has stopped holding a charge is one of the Canon barrerirs.

I have had these to run in my R6 mk2 for a few months shooting motorsports and they are brilliant, exactly like using genuine Canon. They fully work in the camera giving proper battery life readings etc. and I'm sure they last a little bit longer than the Canon. The charger will charge the Canon battery as well. Superb purchase.

I wasn’t going to spend £300 on canon batteries so I stumped for this Neewer pack. I’m surprised how well the neewer battery with the oem canon one in the BG. I’ve shot about 700 images and both batteries are still around 75%. That’s amazing.

Flash is a totally different topic -- and I'm curious how much flash photography Rob even does! -- but I've been all in on Godox/Flashpoint which I think is a superior product for 1/3 the price and offers radio control features that don't exist on Canon, Nikon, or Sony natively. I also like that with Godox/Flashpoint you can go from basic speedlight to studio strobes using the same radio controllers allowing you to start simple (or on a budget) and build up your kit over time as needed.

A little bit of insight from the perspective of someone who used to race RC cars that ran on lithium batteries. Not sure if they're the same but it's always something worth trying:
The lithium batteries I used were off brand ovonic batteries they were cheaper by a considerable amount but they lasted just as long if not longer than on brand batteries and I think it had to do with keeping the batteries at 50% charge when not in use. From what I know the lithium batteries like to sit at 50% or what's considered a storage charge and only ever fully charged before use. The other thing I did was never let my batteries die completely and with a special charger I would balance the charge of all the cells about once a month. Again I'm not sure if any of this will work but they're pretty safe practices to do with any battery and who knows it may be a solution to the shorter life expectancy of the neewer batteries.

I bought BM Premium 2 Pack of LP-E6NH and Dual Bay Battery Charger for $54 US. I used it on my Canon R6II on the battery grip. I already had two Canon batteries but wanted a back up. I would say the BM batteries last a little bit longer. I’ve had them for 7 months. I switch them off after each shoot.

I personally use the Powerextra LP-E6 LP E6N which I bought for my 5Dm3 but work perfectly with my R6 as well. Both Powerextra and the Neewer are well rated on Amazon though Amazon reviewers aren't the best for serious camera gear. I tend to rely more on the reviews at B&H, Adorama, or other photo/video specific websites as the reviewers there tend to actually know what they are talking about. And speaking of the serious camera sites: it's informative to see what third party battery brands they even carry. On B&H they carry Neewer but not Powerextra which suggests to me that for future battery purchases I should eliminate Powerextra from my shopping list.

You should have mentioned whether the supplied charger will also charge the Canon LP-E6NH and whether the Neewer batteries will charge in the Canon charger that came with the camera. I bought two Wasabi LP-E6NH which have worked well for 11 months now and charge normally in the Canon charger. The opposite situation was with batteries for my Canon RP LP-E17 batteries (also used in several more recent cheaper bodies like the R8. With those, I have to use the Wasabi charger for the Wasabi batteries and those batteries do not display correct info on how much charge is left. The batteries work as well as the real Canon but you have to guess when they will run out. My Wasabi LP-E6NH batteries charge in the Canon charger and display all the information. I also have a single Vivitar LP-E17 which shares the problem not charging on the Canon charger. After three years, all of my LP-E17 batteries are starting to give slightly less service on a charge than when new and that includes the real Canon one that came with the camera. Obviously the only thing that makes any difference is whether one battery will expand and damage the camera. I can't say I see that as more likely to happen with Neewer or Wasabi than with the genuine Canons which are not guaranteed for as long as I have been using mine. I see now there are other 'recognized' names making LP-E6NH batteries. Latest is Small-rig. There is no reason to buy unbranded types when we have other, reasonable options. This is like the situation with SD cards except Canon does not bake them (Sony does). Keep us posted.

I was able to buy a Neewer Loader with Batteries right after your video on Amazon.
I decided not to choose that 3-battery loader but the 2-battery loader including 2 batteries.
Why ? ... because I don't see any clue in 3 batteries same time using a battery-grip that holds 2 batteries.
It was VERY VERY fast delivered by only 2 days !!
That charger comes only with a step-diagram for every slot and nothing else ... and you don't need anything else by the way !!
On the other hand it comes with TWO charging slots ... Micro-USB and C-type USB ... witch is VERY helpful in case of charging on the run.
The only thing I couldn't find out right now is, if there are any differences in current between them.

Thanks for this review. As a working pro shooting dual bodies at events, I need lots of batteries. Side note: 110 quid for one OEM LP-E6NH? They're only 80 bucks here in the States. That makes them 70% more expensive in the UK. Still, the Neewers are a fraction of the price here. Still researching, but you got me closer to my decision. Thank you. Subscribing to your channel.

Something I would like to know is whether there a computer chip in the Canon batteries that lets the camera know it's working with an Authentic Canon Battery -- and if the camera, when sent to CPS for servicing or repair -- will allow the Canon techs to see you weren't using Canon batteries and refuse to cover you under warranty or the normal terms of CPS. I suppose it depends on how rude Canon wants to be to their customers but that's one reason I could see for spending 3x on your batteries to get authentic Canon batteries, especially if you're a working pro.

I have had good service so far from my Wasabi Power LP-E17 (3 years) and LP-E6NH (11 months) batteries. I avoided Neewer brand because I have one ball head of theirs that I do not like but have other products that were fine. In the almost 20 years since I got my first Canon, I have had several battery failures but the rate has been the same for original Canons and several third party brands. None lasted forever but some beat ten years. Have you compared the dead-to-full charge time using the three at once charger to charging one at a time? That feature means little to me since I rarely start a second LP-E6NH let alone finish a second one on any given day. I understand how that might be important to pros.

  • @bfs5113
    @bfs5113 Рік тому

My take is there is no free lunch and don't think the high cost is solely the large profit margin from the camera manufacturers. Use them with caution, stop when they become hot and if possible, buy a USB power meter to measure the actual mAh of the batteries.
The worst scenario is reusing recycled cells, and some mismatches will cause reverse charging. Just think where all are those recycled batteries go? Repackaged them as new of course. Otherwise, the cells are probably from lower grades or rejects.
As well, DSLR has been around long enough that certain 3rd parties' battery brands have proven worthwhile to buy. Just avoid at all cost with the cheapest and unknown brands, unless they are the last resort for one's battery.

I've also worked in IT forever, and power supply problems are always diagnosed by "nothing makes any sense, it's just going really weird". Playing with the power source just doesn't seem worth it. Longevity is a big worry. I do love everything Neewer does though, so it might be worth a shot.
