Well done video! I do wish videos like this that urge drivers to stop, have patience, and be mindful of their lives would point out exactly why train crossings are so dangerous: A freight train can weigh tens of millions of pounds. All of that is in motion, and all of that momentum will completely wreck your automobile and you. This is why it takes a train so long to stop, and why there's no such thing as a "tie" at a railroad crossing. The difference in mass between the train and your car has been compared to your car and an aluminum can. The can has no chance against your car, just as your car has no chance against any train. Every time you cross a railroad track, you are taking your life (and maybe those of the passengers and crew of a train) into your hands, and you have absolutely zero right to be there if it's not safe to be. Common sense and the law are not on your side for finding yourself on a railroad track when you shouldn't be. The world is full of enough dangerous things that we cannot control, but we can control when we drive or walk or bike onto a railroad track. Be safe!
I enjoy watching railroad safety videos. I just wish people would pay more attention to trains and crossings. This stuff is not rocket science. When you see the lights flashing and the gates are down, wait until the train has passed. Don’t drive around the gates, and put your own life at risk. It’s not worth it
I'm really surprised how people dare to drive through the closing gates at such crossing... Am happy that there are hardly accidents at our railroad crossing; a reason might be that we have both many high-speed passenger trains as well as many high-speed freight trains (freight trains with up to 124 mph!) and people have quite a respect of these speeds
I love the video a lot, Michigan has the best railroad crossings in the world! I noticed a rare Safetran type 1 and even saw the General Signals type 1 which is my all time favorite crossing bell.
You know I find the idea of at grade crossings a little odd. Why? Because where I live, in RI there are NO at grade crossings. It's why the Acela can reach it's maximum speed in the state. Additionally we have two dedicated passenger tracks and one dedicated freight track.
The Aviating Railfanner the only way you can be sure it is abandoned is if the road fouls the track as in it is paved clean over or if there are no rails left
or it is growing trees and shrubs....have one here in VT like that..still has crossings and all but if you look on the street views, there are trees growing and stuff...dirt covering the crossings...etc
Let's look for the EXEMPT SIGN that indicates the track is defunct or the railroad has a procedure to protect incoming traffic. This means if certain commercial or public vehicles are required by law to STOP 🛑 at all railroad crossings, they are relieved of that requirement.
Would it surprise you to know that on the first public passenger train in the USA, a man was hit by the train? No cell phones, no texting, no headphones. The only thing that saved the day was that the man was whisked away to a Doctor at the startling speed of 5 MPH!
Thanks for noticing! Instead of using the auto-caption feature, we do the captioning ourselves so that the words do match what's actually being said :)
i know sometimes i mean 10% of the time the the driver of the car gets inpatient and wants to skip the crossing and then they try to skip but nope (they are so TRIGGERED) then they try to lift the gate and get smashed by it
We are in a rush society and i dont understand to take the risk to rush to a destination trying to beat a train remember motorist Trains are made of hard Steel,a car running into a train is like glass falling on wood, always stop 1 or 2 feet behind crossing lines and gates
Some eitdeits are stupid enough to not stop when the railroad crossing gates up down and they still want to keep crossing it and people wonder why they getting by the train because they don’t stop because they are in the rush to beat the train at the crossing
Just dropping whatever you're doing to walk through a crossing is a bit excessive. You have lights, bells, gates, and a loud ass horn for a reason. If you're gonna ignore all that then that's your fault.
I guess you missed the beginning of the video where it is mentioned not all railroad crossings are active crossings with the warning devices you mention.
Wouldn't it be a good idea to use flyovers over or tunnels underneath high speed railway lines? In other parts of the world, even on slow railway lines with permissable speeds as low as 100 mph railrroad crossings are illegal for good reason...
I think it is very ignorant of people to think that they can beat the train and ignore the railroad warnings. It is put there for a reason, that being our safety. If people are in such a hurry, they should have left earlier.
Abandoned crossing are off limits wright because of all the vegetation I go across an abandoned all the time one even has a tree growing through the track
why are the crossings in mi.so stinking bad there are going to be bad things happening . the crossings are unreal ..in hudsonville and surrounding areas . if i harm my front end there will be problems ..and a lot more if somebody gets stuck on one . no call for this
Get Rid Of Grade Crossings Fast Trains Need An Overpass Grade Crossings Should Be Eliminated Just Like LIRR Did On The Main Line In Mineola New Hyde Park And Westbury
My video response that I have sent does have a railroad worker present when we made this video.
Very Good Point Of View. I made my own video in respect to this one

Thank you for the information! I love the bells for the crossing that had the sign that said "High Speed Trains"!! :)
Yannitron 9000 High Speed Trains Need Overpasses
Not necessary. If people would just stop at the crossing we'd have no problem.
I'm going to put railroad crossing safety tips on my project this Saturday.
0:31- Safetran Type 1 E-bell, those are the rarest things ever!
how Michigan has 52 safetran type 1 e bells in total
Well done video!

In an argument between a 2,000lb car and a 400,000lb locomotive the car always looses. Hell 80,000lb trucks get shredded just as fast as a car.
Yup

I Remember Watching This
And I Found It Interesting Because I Live Very Close To The Crossings In This Vid
Me too!
Michigan Also Requires Alot Of Crossings To Have A *STOP ON RED SIGNAL* Signs On The Signals
That CN train looks like it was hoping
0:33 Amtrak: Oh.... i failed my job... did i?.....

Me too,I watched this back in 2016

"Expect a train at any crossing." I wouldn't be expecting trains at abandoned crossings. They saw their last train years ago.
Well, you can't always tell if a line is abandoned if there's no train.
The Aviating Railfanner the only way you can be sure it is abandoned is if the road fouls the track as in it is paved clean over or if there are no rails left

I would love railroad safety things
It's better to lose a few minutes in your life than to lose your life in a few minutes.
You can tell them and tell them a million times to excercise caution. Its all up ones COMMON SENCE.
Fred Thompson Sense
well, this definetly some thing I definetly would NEVER, not even once would I ever do in my life time
This must have been recently made. Nicely done. I recognized the train/motor vehicle accident that happened just west of Lansing
very good video

Look and Listen actually only applies to railroad crossings without safety features.
Love the video

Nice video!
Anyone notice the Safetran type 1 e-Bell?
I did!
I own a Safetran type 1 e bell!

Anyone else notice at 2:56 the CN train hopping on the tracks?
Joshua Briggs I Did

Well even if it's a malfonction and the gates go down still stop
When The Lights And Gates Are Activated You Are _Required_ To _Stop_

All depends on the availability of funding for such changes to the infrastructure.
Well, no. In railway and aviation industry safety always has to come first. Safety has always a higher priority than speed.
160 km/h

So what if a malfunction happens lemmie guess
LOOK OUT THE MALFUNCTION RAIL IS COMING
Drivers would think a train is approaching when there isn't.
Xd
What about a malfunction
The drivers of both trucks should have their licenses revoked. They both could have caused millions of dollars in damage.
💗👍💛💛💜💛💜💜💜
more like glass falling on solid steel or a train smashing thru plate glass.
I'm the 100th liker :D
The LIRR Montauk Branch Is Way Faster
NECR in Michigan? lol, but good video
2:55 am i tripping or is he bouncing
robin hood nope. Bad rails probably.
Just Build Bridges
Stop, Look, Listen and Live
A moving train does not forgive
Think twice before crossing that gate
A second later and it's too late
Once you ride onto that track
It's a one way trip from which you won't come back
When tons of steel meet human flesh
Steel will win, no need to guess
It's against the law and common sense
Don't ever cross a gate or fence
Wait right there it won't be that long
Take a chance and you'll be forever gone
It's a game that you cannot win
Few have lived to ever try it again
So listen up and play by the rules
Taking risks is a game for fools
Look both ways and stay alive
There may be others in the car you drive
When you hear a train that's passing through
Remember they've got a right to live, too
So Stop, Look, Listen and Live
A moving train does not forgive
Take it slow, don't be in a rush
Or your dreams and more that train will crush

Abandoned crossing are off limits wright because of all the vegetation I go across an abandoned all the time one even has a tree growing through the track
Its still private property tho
Even though there is a tree growing in the tracks, it still could be used for a switching lead to switch out an industry or railcars in a yard.
If they had four railroad gates that would be awesome and safe
If there is no sidewalk, it's not effective as it only increases the chances of getting hit by a train.

Texting is in the process of being banned on vehicles. Headphones should be banned in all modes of transportation.
