If Roy Keane was English, he would have been considered as the best centre midfielder the premium league ever had. No question. I find it hilarious when people compare Gerard to him. Don't get me wrong Gerard was one of the top top players of his time but Keane just controlled the centre of the park like no other. I have been to games were United were up 3-0 in the 80th and Keane would get subbed off and all of a sudden the team completely lose there shape and composure. People seriously underestimate what he brought to that team. He mastered the act of keeping possesion and patience to wait for openings in attack, never phased by playing a banal pass that kept the structure of the team at all times. Critics always go on about the sensational stuff and times he may of lost his temper, but at the back of it all he was a driven selfless leader who put his team first and won everything that could be won.

i don't think theres a player to compare to Keane these days for leadership and drive to win! I guess the closest player you could 'compare' him with in terms of importance would be Kante when Leicester won the league.
Don't really think there is a player that he can be compared to. Hardest working player I've ever seen. The semi final in the Champion's League against Juventus 2 nil down is the epitome of Keane. He got a yellow knowing he'd miss the final and dragged that United team to victory, completely bossing the midfield of Zidane, Dechamps, David's and Conte.
Very underrated as a footballer. However, will never forget that incident when pre game, Patrick Vieira was having a go at Gary Neville and Keane got right into Vieira's face. Vieira's scared face said it all. Imagine the feeling it must give having a captain like that!
Little Keane with his stumpy arms is going to have his way with big black athletic Vieira? That's kinda cute. Maybe in his dreams. Didn't Keane himself say that Vieira would quite comfortably knock his block off? I think even a grub like Keane would be angry at you for implying such a fantastic scenario.
he was an intelligent passer, but not a technical, creative passer, lets not reinvent history here. I love keano, he was the most influential player in the PL era, above giggs, scholes, even ronaldo, but he never was andrea pirlo, not even close to busquets , whos a couple of levels below pirlo. He knew his limitations and didnt try to overreach himself, he kept his passing simple and smart, but scholes, giggs or beckham were far more technical and better passers. obviously veron as well
He's not on the level of a Pirlo, Scholes or Xavi when it comes to precision passing but he could still pick out a great through ball when he wanted, it wasn't his strongest attribute but his passing was definitely underrated.
Thats true, he had that in him, but it was a very occasional thing compared to other DM like Vieira. I mean Vieira was a more talented if less intelligent passer of the ball. I mean technically Keano wasnt bad, I just think he wasnt very good either, but he was able to make up for that with his brilliant understanding of the game and what every match required in a particular moment. His greatest attribute was clearly not natural skill or ability, but his drive, organizational talents and character, and above all his telepathy with what the manager needed or wanted from the team. Most winning and influential player the PL has known, but not a huge technical, natural talent. Robbo was a more talented midfielder but he wasnt as good as a professional or as a skipper as Keano was, as much as I love Robbo. Keano had a hunger to win that I havent seen in any other united player (perhaps Ronaldo but in a different more selfish way)
Pffff, Man the role of the centre midfielder is not solely about passing!! What you do when you don't have the ball is just as important. Keane was an absolute master at observing space and closing down openings that the attacking team would try to expose. He was very subtle about almost forcing the oposition into making the wrong pass and forcing them into less space and hence making them make a mistake. He was genius at it and very few people could appreciate this technical side he had. But all top coaches recognised this. You speak of Pirlo being a great passer of the ball which I agree with( A lot more technical than Keane) But Keane would destroy Pirlo's defensive play any day of the week. Comparing Scholes with Pirlo ok yes they have similar attributes but in general centre midfielders have lots of different attributes that are not easy to compare.
Im impliyingly agreeing with you because I said he wasnt a great passer of the ball and yet he was the most influential player of the PL era, thats how highly I rate him, and I'm one of the few who'd have keano over Robbo any day of the week, because Keano was a ruthless winner. Robbo was more gifted but less of a winning influence, and he wasnt as professional as keano. If I could have any united player of the past in this united side, Id probably pick Scholes and then keano, but I'd only pick scholes first because I loved watching him play football, but keano was the catalyst any team needs to win things
If Roy Keane was English, he would have been considered as the best centre midfielder the premium league ever had. No question. I find it hilarious when people compare Gerard to him. Don't get me wrong Gerard was one of the top top players of his time but Keane just controlled the centre of the park like no other. Handsdown best Manchester United player ever. Yes you can say what about Ronaldo but I’m sorry the years of service Roy gave unbelievable
His definitely aged well , how Utd could do with him now
Great books top man

My 2 favourite pundits
I hate arsenal and united, but top 3 ever in the PL: (1) Cantona (2) Henry (3) Keane. Big shout to Le God also. (not a saints fan either haha)
Well, See Eric as a Leeds man then .... cos he was. First.
Roy Keane was Man Utd ... he was the person
The greatest football captain PERIOD.
8 secs in and a sly dig at Dunphy :D
People are saying Ian Wright was a good interviewer here. That's his job!
Wright is a good interviewer. Some pundits or interviewer's have been doing it for years and are still shit at it.
Wrighty is a natural - he comes across as the sort of bloke you could have a drink with and he'd keep you entertained all night. Great personality.
Cloughie + Fergie + Keane....... no wonder the end result was so good.
😉
he was an intelligent passer, but not a technical, creative passer, lets not reinvent history here.
If I could have any united player of the past in this united side, Id probably pick Scholes and then keano, but I'd only pick scholes first because I loved watching him play football, but keano was the catalyst any team needs to win things
juan altredo He definitely wasn't a dribbler
My favourite pundit
Never heard RK squeak before
Classic Keane!!!!
Thought it was Simon Cowell from the thumbnail
Liked the book (audio). But.... I’m Cynical ...when he narrates the first chapter and then lets someone else complete
That moment when Vieira got in nevilles face and Keane said to him I'll see you on the pitch. Fucking priceless.
Not gonna, l got chills!
When he said the manager I just had to check how long ago this was posted. Shame 😕.
