Uncle Ian had that south London swagger. And Rio is right he was an inspiration to estate kids (especially in south London). He's the reason I support Arsenal
Yeah - and 99.999% of them won't make it and live troubled or tragic lives because of the disappointment/devastation.

Sick fella ☠️.
You should be a Palace fan then, you prat.....
@@TheTruthness2011 Cool story (and copy and paste), bro. I beg you take your meds and stop making up fake stats
Swagger like vanity?
@TheTruthness2011 sick for inspiring people to chase their dreams???
It's better to reach for the stars and fail, than be too scared to even try..
I don’t think people quite understand how important he was to young black boys who loved football in the 90’s. Absolute hero.
Mt Hero aswell. Massive for the boys all round London every training session everyone was rocking a no 8 shirt with Wright.
Same as John Barnes in the 80s
My hero, met his team mate Kevin Campbell. Next on the list is Ian
@@Crazytown and for the 70s, Cyril Regis?
I used to play with kevin campbell up front in 80s London 💪🏽💯
Legend.
"If you weren't an Arsenal fan, you were an Ian Wright fan."
True talk.
100% Also, if you are a fan of good humans who played football, you are also a fan of Ian Wright
Newcastle fan here. Loved Wrighty. The 90s had so many great English forwards and Ian was one of the absolute greats.
Ian wright wright wright!
My favourite moment is when Ian saw his old teacher and nearly got brought to tears as he told that teacher passed away.. what a legend

I cried like a baby
His teacher inspired him; what Mr Pigden did and gave to him, Ian Wright did and gave to kids who are in the same boat he was. Wrighty was -with zero publicity-backing Child Line /clubs for deprived kids-long before that famous clip started to reveal his whole life. Only a few players get total respect no matter who they played for-Bobby Moore Bobby Charlton Pat Jennings a total hero to both Spurs and Arsenal fans....recently you can only add Jermain Defoe and Ian Wright. A rare sort of footballer/man.
Really great tribute, it's a shame wrighty has not been given a statue at arsenal alongside Bergkamp, Henry and Tony Adams. Cause Ian is easily a arsenal legend with his goal record and what he won at the club.
Very very true
I think he might get one tbf …especially now wengers got his. And especially if he continues his promotion with the club off the field.
he should of been one of if not the first statue put up
The fans need to push the narrative and the club will listen. It will happen.
@@liamthompson2604 that’s facts
As an Arsenal fan, I never liked Rio as a player, but since becoming a pundit he's gone up in my estimations, and after this tribute to Wrighty, he's gone up even higher! 👏
Never liked him cos ur a salty arsenal fan that always got slapped up by united. U mug 😂😂
Rio's been sound! #Arsenal
The chap who cheated on his wife multiple times then used her death to somehow cleanse himself of his sins, what a joke.
@@PinkTank-t8f How u know that.
Are you mental??!! He was a quality player, league two level pundit. And I’m a United supporter
If you were from a South London council estate he felt so familiar. He felt like your brother, uncle, cousin or dad. The gold tooth, the bogle, the stories of him driving through the ends and showing everyone love. A real one, and the reason so many of us supported Arsenal. ❤️
Ian Wright is legendary. Not even an Arsenal fan.
Yeah - and 99.999% of them won't make it and live troubled or tragic lives because of the disappointment/devastation.

Love this. As a man United fan, I have no problem saying how much I LOVE him. An icon of the game and someone we could all relate to. His energy, his passion, his unbelievable talent, he was something Special. One of the few players for a rival that actually LOVE!
Protected Protection Love It.
Bless bruver he was a top top player but also a really genuine guy🙏
Same here...I'm a United fan but I loved him as a player...always rooted for him to score, except against us
Rio 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿 Well done for giving Ian his flowers . I’m not Arsenal fan but I’m Wrighty fan 💯 👌🏿

I wasn’t able to watch wrighty play, but just seeing how much of an ambassador to the game he is, how he treats youth, how he promotes women’s football, he’s a legend and a wonderful role model for any young person to follow.
He just exudes an unbelievable level of class.
Loved this Rio. As a young kid Ian Wright is the sole reason i fell in love with football and supported Arsenal ever since. In my opinion easily one of the best finishers this country has ever seen. 👊🏽🔥❤️
I am a Arsenal fan and Ian Wright is my favourite footballer of all time. I met him in March 2008 and he is such a nice bloke who is down to earth. I was lucky to meet my footballing idol.
respect to rio - iv'e been a gooner since the mid 70's and still today ian wright is my all time favourite arsenal player , his personality and passion will always stick for me
If you look at a compilation of Wright's goals he scored such a variety, both feet and head. Chips galore, tap ins. I can't imagine how many he would have scored in the Arsenal team which was in the early 00's. Also, we never see prolific scorers celebrate like that for every goal these days.
What people don’t realise about Ian Wright was that he came into the game late- he played his first professional game just before turning 22- his signing on fee was a set of weights!
He signed at Arsenal 2 months before turning 29 and the rest is history.
Now, imagine if he had received professional coaching from a young age ie come through the ranks at an EPL club.
@@TwistedSoul2002 I think part of what made him the player he was, was the fact he was raw. He had a very unique style, which suited him and wasn't trained out of him.
@@criostoirocuinn what's your point?
@@TwistedSoul2002everyone knows that
As a United fan, always loved watching Ian Wright. He did things similar to Henry, before Henry “was invented”!! He announced himself to the world when he came on for Palace in 1990 FA Cup Final. As someone else has mentioned, I love that footage of him meeting his old schoolteacher.
Yh Ian Wright is the reason why loads of black people started supporting arsenal, and Henry was the reason it continued. Both were very special players. Anelka was too but he almost doesn't deserve a mention.
games played and the amount he scored ...one of 'the' best ❤🔥🔥
Bro Ian Wright was a hero for many children, myself being Pakistani Heritage we’d always try to copy his goals and his attitude on the pitch. He was a inspiration even though I am a Liverpool supporter msn had so many unbelievable moments true legend
Rio is spot on.
I'm United till I die, but was always a Wrighty fan as well.
Also, if you not seen the clip of Ian being reunited with his childhood mentor, Mr Pigden.
You need to see it, it's one of the most touching things I've ever seen (pertaining to footy).

It’s the immediate removal of the hat that gets me every time
Mr pigden said mentoring wrighty was the best thing he ever did, and that man flew a spitfire over London during the victory parade for ww2, a truely great man
Saw Ian in forest hill SE london at an ATM when I was a kid. Ran up to him all nervous and asked for an autograph. He kindly obliged and even had time to chat to me for a little bit even though he busy taking cash out. As an Arsenal fan I Always looked up to him in school and that just confirmed why class act.

Big up Wrighty and Rio
Big up South London
R.I.P. Rocky
He was definitely the reason i started supporting Arsenal, what a legend.
Legend of a player goal machine
I love how you talk bout Arsenal players, as much as you're our biggest rivals.. you speak a lot of sense. Great watch. Top man.
I appreciate that!
I was a United fan until I was around 7years old and I remember just seeing Ian Wright score a goal and celebrate with such happiness … have been a Gunner since ❤
What's equally impressive, he didn't turn pro until 22...one of my idols growing up in London in the 90's
THE reason I'm an Arsenal fan today is because of Ian Wright in the late 90s. Growing up as a young Black boy in London he was my sporting idol.
Well said Rio 🙌 as an Arsenal fan from the day i was born 51 years ago Ian Wright Wright Wright will always be one of my favorite ever players i had the privilege to watch
I'm an Arsenal fan and, I've always had time for you Rio!👍🏿
Wrighty was one of the reasons i started supporting the club
I'm a man utd supporter and I've always had a love for Ian Wright
He is the reason i became Arsenal Fun when i was a child
Ian Wright is one of my favorite strikers I studied his movement and it really helped me with my game. Top Man 🙌🏻
I'm a United fan, and I loved Ian Wright too... very few arsenal players have I liked at all.
That was a beautiful insight from Rio, Ian Wright is a legend and I love players like you and him, keep it real and inspire the future generations. Wrighty and Rio both legends of the game!!!! 👊🏾🙏🏾

Loved Wright, from a united fan.
Class.
Respect rio. LEGEND
Amazing upload Rio. Absolutely love it
Rio is brilliant at doing these. I'm shocked. Bless up, Star!!
When I was a kid I used to go from Northampton to London every school holiday with my mum and dad to pick my brogans sister up to come stay with us for the holidays, we got the same mum doff dad. Me and my brother were massive arsenal fans as kids, still are, but I remember seeing the big billboard posters saying ‘behind every great goalkeeper there’s a ball from Ian wright’ he is not just an arsenal and England legend but a true football legend
I’m from the Middle East and Ian is the reason I became an Arsenal fan.
He was my hero growing up. Love that guy.
Respect for that Rio . Ian Wrights a legend at arsenal !
Regardless of who you support, how can you not love Wrighty
Proper Rio 💯. Uncle Ian Wright 🖤
I have not heard something so heart warming in years. I’m not even English dude, and I feel proud. Respect
Ian Wright is a legend in my eyes love the guys energy beautiful personality
I had a singing duet with Wrighty at his Book launch at HMV in Oxford Street [ not that i can sing ]...
You can't help but love him...
Don't care what team you support !!!
Rawness personified 💯...
Absolute 💯 Diamond Giza all round !!
Love the comment section and that's why we call him Uncle Ian. The impact he had and still does is immense. True legend not only ar Arsenal but of the game,
Ian suffered mental issues decades ago and was admitted to a private hospital in london. I met him there when I was a kid as my mum was in the same hospital. He would hang out with other patients and staff and show them all love and care. He didnt care he was ex footballer, he was so humble and genuine and it was crazy to me cause im around a lot of athletes and famous people for work and none have his humility and empathy
Beautiful story this 🙏
At the time he was ridiculed in the press for seeing a "shrink" as we used to call them.
Great tribute from Rio. Not an Arsenal fan but loved Wrighty. Absolute legend.
Much appreciated
I'm losing interest in football but your faith and description in someone with amazing characterise wrighty is incredible and what the game should be about.
Rio, you know exactly what needs to remain from generations past.
The guy is real. He's not afraid to show his emotions. I don't mean the likes of Keegan playing up to cameras "wearing his heart on his sleeve" bollocks. Truely truely genuine guy. Like Cantona. This is what I am. And bollocks to anyone who doesn't like it!! A quality hardly seen in a sport these days where players are media trained, have people managing their social media platforms etc etc. Characters like him don't exist anymore. True stand up man.
Wrighty was legendary, so underrated, top top striker, respect 🙏👊
First memories of the beautiful game, 94' WC Romario, and Ian Wright-Wright-Wright. The reason I started supporting Arsenal, and name and number 8 on my first Arsenal top. What a player!
Great description of Ian Wright. Possibly the best finisher I’ve seen after Romario
True 👍
You simply don't get finishers like that nowadays
Yes I would concur if Wrighty was Brazilian everyone would praising him. I would consider him the English Romario.
Nailed it. At the time, if you're an Arsenal fan, it was because of Ian Wright, if youre not an Arsenal fan - you were an Ian Wright fan. Liverpool and Wright fan, right here.
Liverpool supporter but wright nearly changed that remember him at a JD store giving out autographs never stopped smiling
This is very true Rio. I was United fan but Wrighty made me think about switching over to Gunners. Loved his character
I never heard of ian wright until the mr pigden short played for me and it was one of the greatest introductions to someones character. God bless Ian wright.
I saw many black players play when i was younger. When ian was on the pitch he wernt just a black footballer, he was a south london bwoi, the first player i saw with distinct characteristics that resonated with me. Thats why i started supporting arsenal
Props to you Rio on the BIG up of Uncle Wrighty, as i always feel he doesn’t get the applauds that he deserves 💪🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👊🏾👊🏾👊🏾👊🏾
Loved Ian Wrigth his passion, his finishing skills plus his personality
Not from London and so not an Arsenal fan per se, but Ian Wright was the reason I became a fan of football and he was who everyone, including me, tried to emulate on the grassy knolls up and down the country. Can't believe he doesn't have a statue at the Emirates.
People who say per se are up their own ass. Stop.
The most important black player for me. Unashamedly black and an inspiration for everyone. A superb player
If I'm not much mistaken, Wright didn’t turn pro til 21/22. While he didnt come all the way up through the leagues, going from non league player to Premier League winner, he ended up winning a Premier League title despite getting started in the game so late. He was like Jamie Vardy before Jamie Vardy.
As an Arsenal fan from the late 90s onwards and born and bred from Croydon there are 3 literal gods as far as I'm concerned (in no particular order) Henry, Bergkamp and Sir Ian Wright. I mention Croydon only because I'm pretty sure Sir Ian still lives round there since his Palace days, they say never meet your heroes. But I would love to meet anyone of them, especially Wrighty.
I am a Manchester United fan from New York. I appreciate Ian Wright. I bought his book
Magnificent about Ian Wright, and full interview with him in the studio is a must, I can just imagine the fun!!!!!
Rio knows. Ian is a legend… his movement and finishing was next level all time… real character… That clip with him and his teacher says it all
I remember watching him play for Crystal Palace, and then I heard he moved to Arsenal and I became a Arsenal fan. Ian Wright Wright
What a generous tribute from one of the best
You don’t need to support arsenal to be a fan of wrighty. He’s top notch. Man is as authentic as you can get. Made the sports great. Legend.
Well said Rio. Wright and Barnes. Iconic.
As a south London boy growing up in the 90s, Rio absolutely perfectly nailed it.
Ian Wright is a legend.
Met the man multiple times over the years and he is as authentic as it gets.
💯 Ian Wright is the reason why i support Arsenal! Facts! That statue of Ian Wright needs to be unveiled very soon! It's well deserved! Big part of our history at Arsenal!
I’m a man united supporter but growing up in these London estates I can co sign everything Rio says. He was a hero to all us young black boys in the city during the 90’s. He was the one that stood out that we related to.
Wrighty was reason I chose arsenal his aggression was magnetic. He’d run full length of the pitch for a row and then go score a proper strikers goal 10 mins later he embodies hard work and coming from nothing to achieving every boys dreams. And as a white man man growing up watching him he was foundation a pillar of the black community he instilled that fight into me I can only imagine the fight he inspired in other young black men watching him in the English game. the abuse he received and still to be such a beautiful person that he is and to be a successful elite club legend it’s just unthinkable that one man could possess so much character and love for football and people god bless this man my boy hood hero x
Rio is giving Wrighty his flowers while he's still around. Gotta love that level of respect.
Spot on. The reason I was into kinda into Palace then Arsenal ever since. Following my guy. He represented the Man Dem!
Ian Wright is why i get no 8 on my shirt to this day legend. Wish i could meet him he seems so genuine and down to earth.
Good on rio ❤ to all football uk fair play
Nothing but facts in this video. South London legend, all of us who werent Arsenal fans were Wrighty fans.
5:09 everybody's favourite Uncle Ian was riding out with Ruddock and the boys in the 90's. how can you not love this man?
FLOWERS!!! I'm an Arsenal fan but really started watching football after he left the club. But when you look at his stats and the kind of goals he scored, he would've been scoring close to Haalands numbers of last season now. He was absolutely ferocious and lethal
when i was living in london, i remember ian wright coming off the bench with crystal palace, made it 2-2 and scored the 3rd goal against Manchester united in F.A CUP final, mark hughes equalized for man u...great game
I love hearing them stories like you mentioned in the players bar, more of them please ☺ ♥
Wrighty is a tremendous man 👍
not an arsenal fan but i deffo was an ian right fan for sure, him and barns .. cant go wrong.
Defoe said he owes a lot to Ian Wright. In his West Ham days when he was a teenager he said he used to give him extra training sessions to practice timing his runs by grabbing a handful of the back of his shirt, telling him to be ready and as soon as the moment came he'd let go and Defoe would be off. You can just imagine Wrighty seeing a 17 year old Defoe and just lighting up.
Arsenal's best ever finisher. If your life depended on it in a one v one with the keeper, you'd want Wrighty taking the shot. Absolute ledge!
I grew up watching PL through 90s, Ian Wright was just so consistent you almost took it for granted. He was so damn good. I think his bad injury luck with England for major tournaments meant he didn't get the credit he deserved.
Yesss mann. Big up Rio for this. Big up Uncle Wrightyyy cah anything he touch turns to gold: Football, TV, Radio, Adverts, Podcast, Quiz shows etc etc. We have to give him his flowers while hes alive. He deserves every good word and blessing you can think of. #LivingLegend
Love this. Wrighty is my hero and the reason I support Arsenal. I once had his name shaved into my head school times 😂😂😂😅
Ian Wright is the reason I started supporting Arsenal! He’s a LEGEND! 😍👏🏾🤩
Brilliant vid Rio my G, when man said “the kids back in the day were like rahhh is that how Rio’s movin” with Wrighty in his Bentley. Classic! 🤣👏🏾

He signed at Arsenal 2 months before turning 29 and the rest is history.
Now, imagine if he had received professional coaching from a young age ie come through the ranks at an EPL club.
Look at it the other way...
Maybe that's why he developed such a unique, broad technique of finishing. Maybe he would never do that being restricted under pro training.
@@siberianTiger639 and imagine if he'd been media coached to say the same old clichés after every game.
He was 28. O ?
I Think had England used Ian Wright properly in 93/94 we could've seen England at USA'94. i know Wright was up against Shearer , Ferdinand , Sheringham and Le Tissier but Ian Wright and Andy Cole had always drew the short straw and get put on the bench. Graham Taylor nice bloke but i wasn't a fan of his managerial football style and squad selection at England.
Ian Wright and Andy Cole together would've smashed it for England, had they been given the confidence of the manager in the same way Gareth does with todays England squad...
the 1990's was a very different world.
