Food for Thought was my top UB40 song. I'm a big fan of songs with a sax. One of my favourites is the Hazel O'Connor song 'Will You' especially the extended version. If ever you feel inclined you could give that a listen.
I thought it was , I’m a Prima Donna , as well. I think I became familiar with them from the singles album they released of their early music . Then they obviously blew up with Labor of Love . I really enjoy their 1984 follow up album Geffery Morgan and Rat in the Kitchen is a decent lp too.
Yep early UB40 was definitely the best. Then they went commercial and did covers. Didn’t like the direction. Even though I did not buy the Labour of Love album. It was always played at house parties. Especially the tracks Johnny Too Bad or Sweet Sensation. lol…. King which was the double A side with Food For Thought. Was my jam.
One of their best, and this version is at least as good as the one on the album. I agree with Jon about their disappearance down their toilet after two albums. There's a bathroom on the right; I feel Sue Lawley. The word you're looking for is mondegreen,, from an old Scottish ballad: They have slain the Earl of Moray, and Lady Mondegreen. I've never misheard this lyric, and my image is of a carved religious figurine or statuette. I agree with Jon that _Arc of a Diver_ is a grossly underrated album.
While they also sold out eventually, Aswad maintained their UK reggae integrity far longer than UB40. Here’s a fascinating reggae/jazz fusion track: “Warrior Charge”, which Lloyd. Bradley called “an as-yet-unsurpassed pinnacle of British reggae” in his book Bass Culture.
Their first two albums were as important to me as anything released on Two Tone and the first Dexys album. Such a shame they went down the covers route.
Nice. What a session.

Never heard this one! I love the most obvious choices but a few years ago I heard "One in Ten". Excellent song!
love a bit of rootsy reggae. I just don't know where to look! So, thanks for this, enjoyable.
Great track, I do like some of their stuff.
I was one of those that thought it was I'm a Prima Donna for many years.

Early UB40 is quite brilliant, but after that i dont know what happened, as they started recording total shite.
Im also in the 'Im a Prima Donna camp'

If that doesn’t turn your cranks, “Time Come” by Linton Kwesi Johnson should inspire some good discussion.

Never liked UB40, just something about Ali's voice, but this is the only song I can stomach by theirs... so not being totally negative towards them.
I couldn’t agree more.
