- While many railfans were chasing the Pennsylvania Railroad-painted E8's in northern New Jersey, Big Jim Video Productions decided to go elsewhere for some PRR action. Instead, a trip was made to Williams Grove, PA (south of Harrisburg) to visit the Williams Grove Railroad, and their restored PRR 0-6-0 #643 steam locomotive, operating as part of their annual "Train Days" weekend. After a 16-year career with the Pennsy, and 40 years at a local steel mill, the Williams Grove Historical Steam Engine Association purchased the engine and it has been here ever since. She now runs a few weekends per year, both pulling passenger trains, and as a part of a "Run A Locomotive" experience. Enjoy the video, and don't forget to visit www.bigjimvideo.com for more action!
It's a great point - which is why I love this place, it's the last outpost of active Pennsy steam...
The only PRR steam engine left in operating condition. With all the giants the PRR had, it's interesting the last one standing is a little 0-6-0.
Thank you very much! I'm glad you like it. :)
Me too - my favorite line!
Thanks!
It's the only one operating - and on certain days, for $125 (I believe) you can operate it for a half hour!
Fantastic video, Jim!
I would really like to go there someday. It's rare to see an operating Pennsy engine nowadays!
Pennsylvania RR, I love It!
Good video
What a cute little switcher!
How many are preserved?
I know a little PRR branch line near me that has tourist operations, they need an engine like that!
There are a couple that are preserved, I believe one other is at the Railroad Museum of PA in Strasburg. There may be others, but I don't know off the top of my head.
I read that long ago Strasburg had to stop running their 0-6-0 #31 on a regular schedule because without a lead truck it was really hard on the track work. I wonder if these folks have the same problem ?
+prydonian460 Well they don't run the engine as often as Strasburg runs their engines, so I think it's less of a concern for the Williams Grove folks.
awesome
They still have the days where you can operate it for a half-hour (for a fee, obviously).
Sounds like the 7002.
I'm a huuuuuuuuuge fan for P.R.R and i live in P.A so went around the horseshoe curve and rail fan their
Very cool!
Hey, Do they still let you drive the train down there, Or did they get rid of that?
It also sounds like 89's 4 chime.
i was there in may.....
how do u get to be on the crew there? and how old do u have to be? the engineer in red seems really young.
16 would probably be youngest
