I have a lot of strong memories associated with Blue Dragon. It often gets overlooked because lmao xbox jrpg but it was really one of the most defining games of my childhood. I pray for the day when 360 emulation becomes good enough that I can finally play it again without having to get all my 360 stuff out of storage. It does my heart good to see this game get talked about! So many hours spent grinding on hard mode... that shit was seriously HARD!
same. have really great memories of playing it in college after work... I don't know that I'll have the time to play through it ever again but the fond memories will never go away.
My mother overheard me playing the game, and she instantly recognized the Deep Purple singer who does the poorly-made boss theme in the game - she said to me "Dang I didn't know Ian Gillan was washed up" 🤣I really wish the Blue Dragon IP succeeded, I enjoyed the anime and the game so much as well as Mistwalker's other games like Lost Odyssey. Thanks for teaching us about the game's speedrunning tips, I didn't know the game had a speedrunning community because it's not the most popular game.
Wait it's actually Ian Gillan? What the hell 😂 ...he is washed up though, he was losing his vocals even during the Deep Purple run. Which is sad, Deep Purple were fkn incredible
In Barkley Shut Up And Jam Gaiden, "Eternity" is also used as the battle theme, and the mp3 file in the game folder is tagged "Jesus Christ the guy from Deep Purple sang this"
The image that went with "Palmer had arrived, and he was about to change everything" is forever associated in my head with the unsung out-of-nowhere theory-crafters who do so much for speedrunning now, and I thank you for it.
Alotta dope memories with this game, I remember getting double cast with bat pirate mommy and instantly realized how op it would be for all your teammates to have.
Generalist role really busted party builds making everyone insanely strong the moment that part is maxed out, skill slots unlocked, and you start slapping together the ultimate party of badasses that bulldozes the secret bosses.
If I can offer an unsolicited suggestion, chesk out Super Mario RPG speedruns. There's an AGDQ VOD from a few years back that shows it off really well. The game's battle system is fairly consistent, but the item system sometimes conserves a use of a battle item, meaning it has a shocking amount of RNG. The runner has to memorize basically a flowchart of where they'll save the most time if they have more items than they were expecting as they move through the game. The amount of theorycrafting that went into optimizing this is insane.
I’m almost certain this is the Anime I remember seeing one ad for on Cartoon Network when I was a kid and never knew what it was as an adult. I’m pretty sure you just helped me complete a childhood memory
I love it when yt reccoments me this random shit. A game I've never even heard about, a yt channel I've never seen, I've never watched speedruns in my life and yet here yt brought me.
Thank you Swellman for the lovely video on what is my childhood game. I actually had no idea the maths had been confirmed for the run. Suddenly I'm very aware of how lucky my handful of completed runs were.
Thank you sooo much for mentioning Septerra Core I've been trying to remember that game FOREVER I used to play it on an orange Compaq in the nineties as a kid lmaooo
I have never heard of this game before but it looks gorgeous and now I wanna see if I can find it and play it. I also love these videos, honestly, they're so interesting and I love that it's not only about well known games
Sorting by new? Go find the OG Blue Dragon manga, the version of the franchise most people know of is EXTREMELY toned down The protagonist is a lovable goof who was locked in the dark his entire life because they didn't want to release his shadow dragon.... suddenly his kingdom is under attack and they need his powers, so after 15 years in the dark he's released... and he's absolutely FASCINATED with women lmaooo The fact that they took the concept and somehow converted it into something more marketable is cool and all but finding and reading the original as a teen was like beating a secret boss that nobody else has ever even heard a about This vid gave me a brain blast of good memories, appreciate it
Watching Palmer run this always makes me think of my Grandia 3 runs where the entire run hinges upon some low chance or RNG heavy element. 3 hours into the run relies on a fully RNG based Casino section to complete a run
Very good easy to follow video. Otonyshi sounded vaguely familiar, then you said Chulip, and I'm like oh yeah, I think I've seen him around or heard his name on strats. Thanks for the flattery of my guy Palmer. Didn't realize how much work he did. :O And the code people wow.
im so glad there are other history speed runs other then summoning salt that only seems to do mario kart, and punch out. love him to death but man i needed more variety.
i remember trying to buy this game at GameStop and the worker tried so hard to talk me out of it. He explained that it was a JRPG and that it was a pretty hard game and that he didn’t think I would be able to beat it or have fun. and I just looked at him blankly because I just wanted to play the game that was based on that cool anime i remember watching
Think I did that when I played the game, since it was helpful to get all the achievements. Can't remember how long it took to get 4 Black Belts. Wasn't a speedrun of course.
I’ve been looking at what this game was called all this time as i saw an image once YEARS ago, but thought it was called “shadow dragon” made searching impossible
I hated this game when I tried playing it at the insistence of a former friend, but good on these guys for figuring out a speedrun route to get through it.
Oh if you want to the most horrendous RNG for a game...pokemon card gbc 2. There's a card lock behind a coin flip game. 10 heads required in a row...I got it, but took me four hours each day of playing it for about a month. I would love to know something worse than that.
@@The_PolterGhost yes exact definition of how RNG works. The odds are 1 in 1024. In perspective, a shiny Pokemon encounter rate is I think 4,096(was double in gold/silver). Never had one of those either in 20+ years of playing.(red Gyarados don't count) Odds of winning the Powerball, 1 in 292,201,338. Gahhhhhhhh the number value on that.
Sorry I forgot to mention why. When you see the probability you think well shiny p should be tougher, but no, that is one RNG value chance. The coin flip game is 10 RNG value(least I think, I don't know the programming.) Granted it's easier to win the coin flip, but 10 chances versus 1. Yeesh. I'm sure there are worse RNG gimmicks, but Im not lucky...
@@BJGvideos you could of gone with wind waker "battleship" minigame. To get the top prize, requires 20 or less shots I believe. Not an easy feat, but like the treasure game also in majora mask, Alttp and lbw, you actually get to choose, which can be manipulated using "savestates" via emulator. Sure it's cheating but my example there is none. You are at the mercy of the rng and only earn it if the CPU let's you.
I remember when this first hit cartoon network as an adolescent/preteen. Can't remember my exact age but I remember liking this and zatch bell like b2b. Edit: came out when I was 15, 15 years ago.

This many views for a Blue Dragon related video? Frankly amazing. Gotta love the game and anime.
real!!🙌
Equipping your entire party with that stupid black belt was hell. I just did it a month ago. Could take 10 Minutes. Could take 5 hours.
damn rng

Another victim of "lmao xbox rpg" in the 360 era is Lost Odissey
isn't it on the backwards compatible list? also im p sure i saw it in the microspft store when i had a series s briefly

I’ll second this. I was actually at that GDQ and it was an amazing run, even better to see in person
Speedrunners are worthless members of society. They get nothing but disrespect from me. Get a real job and contribute to society.

Thumbs up for using legend of dragoon music. We need more of that.
Blue Dragon isn’t obscure! What are you-

Okay, maybe a little obscure...
Blue dragon was so underrated. I played it like 3 times and watched the anime
Nice Mass effect music addition it's always so athmospheric

I recently started playing the game on impossible mode, at the final dungeon now, game was always fun to play

Took me only 15 minutes to get my whole party outfitted with Black Belts last time I played! Training for the Insane difficulty mod, heheh
so i just found this channel and i think it is amazing that someone is speedrunning blue dragon
Dragonball, Dragonquest, Blue Dragon... Too many Toriyama IP's have dragon in the name.
Shame though that one of them didnt get much spotlight
