Len Barnard was the first Adventist bush pilot back in the 60s. A personal friend of mine a really kind man whom was a medic in PNG during WW11. Len went to Goroka in a farewell trip a couple of years before he passed away. The trip was ~2013 I was going to go to Goroka with Len but business committments prevented that. This You Tube does give me a front seat where Len used to fly and also of Goroka that I missed. Len did not have the luxury of modern electronics and previous to all that Len used to WALK to areas over the mountains preaching our wonderful Savior Jesus. Thankyou for your mission work and thankyou for sharing it.
Don't think I would ever grow tired of hearing that Turbo spinning up. You are very proficient at what you do. So much so you make it look far easier than it is. But man what a life. I have no complaint. But I often wonder what would have happened taking the other fork in the road. LOL
Thanks for the video. We served back in the late 70s at NTM base. Our 185 came to PNG while we were there. I actually helped hold the wing while our pilot attached it in Lae.
So professional and interesting pilot.Great job Thanks from Calgary Alberta.Snowing and minus 20 degrees.Progected -35 on Sunday. Enjoy your warmth in Papa New Guinea. Cheers.
Fantastic, was born in outside Goroka in a missionary camp feb 1957 . My dad worked for Sepic ? air.Job was to retrieve crashed planes with lots of native labour and security, cannibal tribes were everywhere!! was also a great mechanic engineer pilot.Plan to go back as soon as this nightmare subsides or vanishes.Your flying exp in the bush will certainly be a huge factor when you move on as far as employment. Kudos my man, Safety New Year..Cheers from Canada..God blesim yu...
Glad I got to catch the takeoff after just watching the video of you landing there. Very nice video with all the different camera angles. Keep em coming!
Hi Ryan. Kodiak is one of my favorite aircraft to fly on X Plane 11. Watching your videos has helped me to greatly improve on how I fly the aircraft. Keep up the great content and thanks for what you do.
I always verbalized check lists, speeds. prop, rpm and other aircraft parameters plus go around procedures on my approaches...very helpful it staying focused.
Aside your undoubtful vast piloting experience the aerodynamic design of that KODIAK is obviously more than up-to-date and delivers an outstanding performance. A rotate speed of 55 knots is truly convincing.
The Kodiak was specifically designed to fly from these airstrips for missionaries. Other uses are an afterthought. The original company "tithed" by selling at cost every tenth Kodiak to missionaries.
@@scottsoper I believe when I was at JAARS, the technical support arm of SIL (Wycliffe Bible Translators) some of the aviation folks there had a hand in advising Quest on the design of the Kodiak. They had many years of experience in modifying the Heliocourier they brought to the table.
Absolutely love your videos Ryan, they are very entertaining and I find none of it boring. I don't think people appreciate the typography of PNG through a camera. Well done and don't stop letting us sit the RH Seat. Pete
Loved the filming of the dropaway at the end of the strip. The treetops are a bit close going over the hilltops but I guess you can see them better than us. Another good flight and commentary, thanks Ryan. Best wishes for 2021.
Enjoyable, beautiful, trilling and honest! Please, keep sharing! As the number of videos grows, how about organizing them by adding some more topical playlists? Maybe “Challenging airstrips”, “instruments and procedures”, “About PNG” etc. Thank you!
Love watching you Flying .... I love flying but I am NOT a pilot...... I would NEVER be able to remember all the things you have to do to get up, fly & get down again SAFELY ...... but then I am 75 so that's my excuse....... Have a Safe & Happy New Year... AND KEEP ON FLYING.....
Hi Ryan, that is the first time I have seen you land on 35 L. Every other flight you have landed 35 R. Yep that airstrip is challenging to say the least. Stay safe, God bless you.....regards Roger
Love seeing the country side. Would love to hear about the history of the air strip your going into and coming from. Keep up the good work and safe flights :)
Hi Ryan, Thanks for taking us to Aibai and back. Great job! But you pulled a fast one on us! The trip out was in NTE under broken clouds and scattered rain to a muddy runway. The trip back was in NTZ on a beautiful sunny day and you thought we wouldn't notice. Lol! How about taking a camera with you on your motorcycle rides a sharing your wingless adventures, too? I ride adventure bikes in Western US and would like to see what riding PNG is like. Plus, it would be nice to see you really are human and not just an accomplished robotic pilot!
Just came across you as I was searching for youtubes on the Quest Air Kodiak. Love the videos and what you are doing to help those in need. Keep up the good work in 2021! ...From Ryan in Utah.
That must get your heart pumping Ryan! Great short vlog. A return trip to the same airstrip would be great. Thanks and happy new year to you and yours. 👍
Incredible! I see you love what you are doing and where you are flying, but a major airline would snap you up right away with you talent. Thanks for providing these videos. To say they are addictive would be an understatement.
Ryan - Thanks for flying on Missionary Bush Pilot airlines! Me - I loved the flight, appreciate you Ryan! You'll be my pilot on the way back right? Ryan - *Grins
It made me wonder about their doing training out there. Are there certain strips that only the more experienced pilots fly into? And how do they get the necessary experience? I mean, many of those strips have zero go around opportunity past short final or even on final at all--can't touch and go when there is a mountain on the other side of the runway and/or surrounding the runway on three sides.
Ryan !! Happy New Year !!! all the best this year and happy landings... woo you are really great Pilot, What a landing way... and takeoff is no chance of mistakes ... however you are review yourself your safety and ... go!! .. Phenomenal... until next time !! Awesome video...
You are my hero. When I first saw you, you were transporting materials. Seems your flying is half work/money and half a hobby? But the missionary says otherwise. Please be safe. Rich
Really enjoy your videos always look forward to them, maybe sometimes you could pepper in some of your bike rides around the countryside, the roads look like they would be a lot of fun riding a dual sport around there.

Happy New Year Ryan!!! I don't know about other people but I would love to have you take us along on your bike ride and show us the sights!!!! Just an idea!! Keep Safe and Keep Flying!!!
@@MissionaryBushPilot I enjoyed those motorcycle trips as well! You think Ryan is crazy landing on 11% muddy slopes with the wind going the wrong way? try watching him go over "bridges" on a motorcycle where all the boards jump up as he goes over!
When somebody's good at what they do, they make it look easy. This is probably one of the best jobs in the world. Very relaxing to watch.

Thanks for the come along, coffee and a short flight to start your perfect day. God Bless.....Roll Tide

Good 12minutes of multitasking. 👍

I think airline jobs become boring after a while.
This is so much better and so many stories to tell.

Very good pilot. I love how hr calls out his checklists throughout his flights. Very informative and a good habit to be in.
Krykie ! What's to worry about ? No problem for the mighty Kodiak & Pro Captain Ryan ! Reminds of PLK Point Lookout, MO with that drop off.

Yes it is
Loved the video; grew up in PNG; attended NCA; enjoy it every time I see the beautiful Lapilo; I think Lapilo came into view in this video.

Flying this airstrip on repeat, not following your crosswind limits and it gets exciting. You're having too much fun out there!
Couldn't agree more!
nicer weather heading out. whew!
Short but scary flight. Thanks for sharing your time! KANSAS USA

I did a landing in to WX53 Bugalaga in FS2020 last night, props to people that do this in real life. I was having palpitations doing it virtually.

@@MissionaryBushPilot - Yeah, but you'd have to go back to a normal haircut. TV wants handsome pilots... 😏
Thanks Ryan...steep runway but then a short straightforward flight but still interesting. Those ridges sure look close at times!
I can't get over how steep those mountains are!
@@scottsoper they sure are, which is part of the reason PNG has more than 800 languages (languages, not dialects).

That is so cool of a takeoff. Immediate flight with the slope then soaring over town. Bet that view from the houses is amazing.
Wouldn't want my house that close to the end of that runway.
