His pronunciation is so good!, I don't know but, the old english speakers, pronunciate so much more clear than the youngers, nowdays people talk soh fast and it confuses the foreign listeners, who agree with me?
The tip about pointing your elbow at the ball for overheads, man has that helped me. What it shows is that I'm not normally getting a good shoulder turn, and that my main problem was not depth perception or judging the ball, but technique. I love simple rules of thumb(In the Navy we had one for everything!), and this one is great.
Your welcome as a coach I try to help my students become independent players. The more knowledge you have about the reasons mistakes happen, the easier it is to fix the problem. All the best, Tom
Tom, thank you for all instructions! Since i started watching your videos i've quite improved my technique and tactics on court. If i lived at U.S. certainly i'd love to be one of the your students!
I really can't overstate how much this has helped. Having more confidence in my overheads tonight, I would say I was averaging about 1-2 steps closer in when I come to net, and that makes net play a great deal more effective.. Instead of hitting short approachs to prevent lobs, I'm hitting deeper more effective approachs hoping for a lob. When I did get effectively lobbed, I didn't feel embarrassed or stupid, I took it as part of the game and felt overall I was getting the best of my net time. I probably made 5 straightforward overheads and one tough one, and I mishit only one. It is as if gaining confidence in my overhead is the linchpin that lets the various parts of game work together.
Thank you, sir. Smashing is my chronic problem. I am always scolded by my partner for not smashing properly or moving too slowly to catch the ball. Especially, I am poor at turning my shoulder and posing trophy position right after I see a ball flying high me up. My couch also said that I am slow in coming back to the front to volley the next ball right after smashing. Now, I feel dismayed and frustrated whenever scolded like this. In particular, it's hard for me to immediately turn my shoulder. Am I too dull in tennis?
Focus on moving your feet quickly and turning sideways as you prepare to hit the overhead.... MOVING THE FEET IS KEY..... when you swing go for it!!! Don't give up you can do it!! All the best, Tom
Your follow through down isn't good. You need to accelerate through the ball and you should also teach an overhead backhand slice it has been a life saver and your prancy scissor-kick motion is not at all necessary.
It was the best overhead lesson so far, most comprehensive
Thanks much appreciated!!
To your overhead success,
Tom

Thanks Tom.. Very helpful drill to get back quick enough to hit the ball in front.
Glad to help!
Thanks Tom this really changed my game. That was my weakness but now I’m crushing overheads.
