Poison ivy is a plant that causes mild to severe rashes in many people and the term leaves of three leave it be was dubbed. But not all three-leafed plants are poison, some are actually useful or medicinal.
Box elder has stems opposite each other. Poison ivy has staggered stems. Great to know! I thought I had a poison ivy tree. lol.
Rather glad. We don't have poison ivy in the UK. But an interesting educational video. I look forward to next weeks Caveman Cody show.
Ah man yall are lucky for that. I happen to have some on my arm right now.
You can also use Box elder sap to make maple syrup and also Box elder actually has pretty nice wood and some of them have a unique red or pinkish stain or discolouration in the wood which is sought after by wood workers.
Its my all time favorite wood due to the natural coloring. Weak but easy to work
@@TheGreyGhost_of43rd Yeah I would like to use Box elder for an electric guitar body with the red stain. The problem is that the red stains don't last, I guess you can sorta use some type of paint that is almost exactly the same colour
Great vid buddy!! Gotta memorize this info for sure!
Thanks. It's good to remind myself every now and then what poisen plants look like.
Thanks for spreading the word! Great lesson to many, even for the experienced forest folk.
Great info! Thank you!
Already subbed -- thanks for posting this info! It looks like the Poison Ivy leaf veins are not as angled.
Got it cheers. great little video
Thanks, relieved now they are box elders.
Love your content, Cody! I just started a new outdoor channel and you're party my inspiration in doing so, only my content is more entertainment (camping, exploring, wildlife, etc.) than it is bushcraft / info / survival, although that is the kind of stuff I want to learn. Keep it up! Virginia boy for life!
My new channel, btw :D
Sorry, I could not tell what you said the box elder can be used for. Could you comment to let me know what the first thing in the list of box elder tree uses was? tyvm!
Thank you again
Thanks 😊
I always wondered about the plant virginia creeper. Heard a lot of mixed things about it. We got a ton of it here in the midwest where i live near the kaw river.
5 leaves on a VC only 3 on PIvy
Btw, how can you differentiate based on the stems of non-vined poison ivy and the boxelder tree saplings? Is there a difference?
Box Elder trees can be a problem if they attract box elder bugs.... and they can infest your home. I say get rid of either one of them. lol. Especially if close to your home... Either way, thank you for the informative video.... the staggered stems was really helpful information on differentiating.... The box elder tree always looks like poison ivy and it freaks me out.
I’ve been thinking of growing poison Ivy since I’m not allergic. 😂
I can spot two things from a mile away, Poison Ivy, and Ashkenazis.
Great video son ivy suck I'm not allergic but my dad was
I am as well. Got it on my arm from cutting the vines to kill them. Itll be worth it
Next ? Poison Oak ?
Highly allergic over here!
If there ever was a plant meant to punish humanity. This is one of them
leaves of three is not T.P. been there, done that
Yikes. Never been that bad. Once upon a time I walked through a patch barefoot on a river side once. I wanted to cut my feet off
