Yeah it is definitely necessary with poison ivy. I have had beginning students think it makes good fire tinder before. I am thankful they came to class so i could help them with that.

You can miss a lot of fantastic edible and medicinal plants that way.
A cool wash from Black Walnut leaves will help break down the urushiol oil and relieve itching from poison vines..
What about poison oak, poison sumac, and other plants which do - or have a high propensity to - cause contact dermatitis?
We decided to do another video with various problematic plants, and then do another one with vines. Stay tuned.
Any plant in the toxicodendron family will hurt ya, Sumac is the worse of it though from what i've seen on people..
