Give it a try. I'm an older gal and just set up mine for the first time a couple of days ago. It's not hard. I used a hose filter to fill the pool and have tested the water several times today. The test strips make everything easy. Tells you exactly what you need to add, if anything. There is another great video called How I Keep My Pool Water Crystal Clear All Summer. Vince makes it REALLY easy. Honestly. It all falls into place.
I understand that statement completely. On the other hand, if you are not short on time and if you like learning and a little challenge, they can be fun and rewarding.
It’s extremely simple! Add a chlorine puck in your floater once a week and put the correct amount of shock in and all of your levels should stay good as long as you are keeping it clean and rinsing off your pump filter once a week. Also try not to get in the pool if you have lotions etc. all over your body because that can throw things off.
Thank you for making a video specific to these kinds of pools and highlighting the differences!! So hard to find appropriate info online when you’re a beginner - you make it straightforward & less overwhelming, thank you!!
That a lot of information in one go. I just purchased a cover, chemical starter kit and pump. All I’m after is keeping the water in the pool for the 6 week school summer holidays in the 8’ pool

No treatment, straight out of the ground like an artisan well. He talks about adding silver. I'm pretty sure this water has iron in it. Little manganese. And of course, sulfur, sulphates. Calcium. Lots and lots of calcium. You need iron and calcium supplements? Drink a little Florida hose water. Ffs. What a lifesaver, this video. Build OP a lifeguard stand.
You'll need about 20 of em if you wanna use em. Those filters only work for about a 100 gallons. They work great for about 40 gallons then parts per million start climbing back up.
After the actual nightmare of a day I just had completely emptying and clean a very disgusting pool that my mom had. I can tell you this is all worth it. Cause that pool was basically a 6000 gallon Petri dish
I never had a problem using just chlorine tablets in our 10x18 above ground pool. Then I started watching pool maintenance videos and adding balancers, adjusting pH etc to get all the colors in range on the test strips and the headaches began. Now I’m back to just chlorine and it’s all good. I think our municipal water is probably better than typical though and the city doesn’t jack up the pH like some cities do.
Thank You for the video. Can I use the same steps for Bromine? could you recommend any video explaining disinfection with Bromine? I'm willing to use it over chlorine cause my toddler will be in the small pool most of the time.
Tips: buy in BULK and I use my prescription pill bottles once I’m done with them and use a scale and measure EXACTLY what I need for shock and another for chlorine and then you don’t have to open and pour things or mess with chemicals every week, just grab the bottle and distribute it evenly in the pool with the filter on and it takes care of itself and makes things super easy. If you use chlorine pucks buy the 3” and break apart to save money. Last year was a nationwide chlorine shortage and if you wanted to buy any you had to buy it online from someone who was charging 10 to 20 times the price! It was absolutely crazy, so definitely stock up save money and always have what you need to keep your pool perfect ❤️
thank you for this vid. Please do a video on swim spa set up. We are getting a two sided swim spa today. There is very little information for swim spas out there, and yet their popularity is growing and dealers are selling more of them than 10,000-20,000 gallon pools. Thank you for doing such a good job of explaining things it is really helpful.
Thanks for the great videos. My family and I inherited an Intex pool with a salt water system. I've gone through the "green salt water pool" video, and now I'm trying to combine that one with this one. Any differences I should look out for?
I was complaining because I couldn’t find a video that explains with detail how to take care of a pool… now that I found the video, I don’t want a pool anymore 😂
Thank you so very much for putting out such a great, very informative video. As an alternative to permanently removing the water on the pool I am thinking of doing the minimum maintenance (run pump daily, weekly cleaning and adding chemicals) to avoid algae and keep the water clear. Not planning to swim on the pool any day of the year. May I ask, what are the minimum chemicals do I need on a regular basis?
Take a screenshot of the list in the video or print it out from his website with instructions on what each level should be and which order to add the chemicals in. It’s a lot easier than you think and if you do it correctly and make sure the levels are spot on then you really shouldn’t have to ever adjust anything like pH or alkalinity because it won’t be thrown off. Here’s a tip for you lol I tried to winterize my pool last year so I could keep it up and not have the empty clean put away etc etc wellllll anyways I bought something called a “pool winterizing pill” which is like a little ball that you have the chemicals in for the entire winter so you never have to add chemicals and they make them for every size pool you poke the hole and throw them in the pool put a cover on the pool and you’re done, my pool pill did not freaking work and total waste of money so I had a huge mess to clean and lots of green water and scrubbing the pool out so make sure you get a quality winterizing product and learn from my mistake 😂
Brandy i have this pool too. is it the 7500 litre? I'm in uk and wondering how much chlorine granuals you use (by the gram) i just cant work it out because the the instructions on the package contradict itself. no one can work out. help!
I may have just missed it, but ive watched the video through and now i am watching and taking notes - After shocking, it says to be sure to bring your chlorine back down to 1-3ppm assuming you arent using a mineral sanitizer system, but how? If the chlorine is high, what do you do to bring it down witnout messing up the other chemical and pH levels?
What I've found with my Hottub is once I get my alkaline where it needs to be that everything else holds fine. I use the frog smartchlor/mineral floater
I never have had a problem , and I live in sunny California. 10’ pool toss in half a bag of stabilizer wait a bit for it to dissolve then pour In chlorine. Dont test it bc you will go crazy. I put my pool up in April and down in late September. I keep my filters clean and add chlorine when needed, I can tell by smell or feel the pool inside walls if getting slim feel.
This is alot of information!!!I seen a guy say just brush ur pool put chlorine drop in that lil pool float dispenser and clean filter every day if possible..is that not true?I don't even want the 8ft pool I'm thinking of getting..its not as simple as just putting a lil bit of chlorine?
I feel like i know nothing! We got a starter set for our pool and it told us to chlorine shock it, now the chlorine is too high, also the ph and alkaline is too high. The insturctions didnt even mention CYA. I have put in a ph reducer hopefully it will at least reduce the ph and alkaline. not sure what im supposed to do about the chlorine levels though, Just wait until they are low enough? I have two small children badgering me to use the pool in the middle of a heat wave. Thank you so much for your video, it has been very helpful, i didnt even know you could get non chlorine shock, wish i had seen your video first!!
Is the shock considered the sanitizer, I'm confused about that part, i try to look up pool sanitizer and it pops up the shocks. Or can I do a liquid chlorine and then shock it with non liquid shock once a week?
You talk about cleaning cartridge filters in a cleaning solution. What is in the solution? Is it something that I can make or is it a store bought solution?
You should find the products to buy on Amazon and look at the ingredients on the back then check a couple more and you can figure out if you can make it where you need to buy it. Personally I think you don’t even need a cleaning solution at all as long as you completely rinsed them off weekly, you have to clean high pressured using your hose attachment in between each slat and it looks like new.
Great video! There are many people who advertise that small pools don’t need chemicals. Which is like saying you can reuse your bathwater over and over without and still get clean. it makes no sense and I don’t understand their thinking. The only question I have is regarding ALGICIDE... you don’t talk about it? Last year when we took down our EasySet pool their was nasty algae growing underneath the ground cover cloth, which shocked me because we have had the pool many times and never had this occur. Luckily our water never had any issues. I was advised by our pool store to use algicide. I know that chlorine can kill algae. So what are your thoughts? Is it necessary for small pools? And at what size of pool is it necessary if ever? Thanks again for making this video!!!
Definitely don’t need to add anything to the pool if you’re having a problem on the concrete below the pool, I would say just hire somebody to pressure wash your concrete and it will come right up. Just be happy you’re not having an algae problem in the water like I am right now lol it’s a nightmare
Hi there! I just put up a steel pro max 12'30" pool. I'm so confused! Haha we purchased liquid chlorine and I'm not able to find a straight forward answer on how much chlorine to add to the pool.
Should be around 17,600 and each manufacturer of chemical you buy will tell you on the back so just divide the number and then write it on the bottle so you know everytime.
This may sound crazy, but once I first setup my pool , test my water, do I then start to add the chemicals or can we swim first and add the chemicals needed later?
I am confused about the weekly testing/balancing & weekly shock. Do I test/balance everything and then shock, on the same day? Do I shock and then test/balance everything, on the same day? Do I do these things at different times? Like test/balance on Saturday and shock on a Wednesday?
So is it a different process using well water to fill pool. Last year and this year we’ve had it crystal clear. But now fighting to get the ph and alkaline down to the right ppm. Help
How much powered chlorine shock should I add to a 1800 gal pool? Shocked it for the first time tonight and think I needed 2oz but I didn’t know how to measure and did 4 tbsp.
THIS is the one and only know-all video for vinyl pools.

Can u add how much time difference to be between every chemical or u say put all togeather
Wait 20 minutes between adding chemicals
Great video, thanks!
Thank you so much for this video it was very helpful!!
What are the safest chemicals on the market brand wise ?🥲my family is afraid of using chemicals because of the warning it has on the oackages
you need to use chemicals otherwise the water will harbor bacteria and viruses. chemicals are good not bad lol
Question…. It’s been a year now after researching and trying things can you please let us know???
Thank you for explaining this :)
Soooo.... hire a pool person. Got it!
From what I hear most Pool people will not touch these because of the liner.
Needed this
The most important thing I learned from watching this video is to find someone who has a pool!
😂😂😂👍
Great video! Thank you!
Is the shock considered the sanitizer, I'm confused about that part, i try to look up pool sanitizer and it pops up the shocks. Or can I do a liquid chlorine and then shock it with non liquid shock once a week?
If y’all got a green pool it’s satisfying watching the water turn blue after adding the shock
The mineral system is considered algicide
Definitely don’t need to add anything to the pool if you’re having a problem on the concrete below the pool, I would say just hire somebody to pressure wash your concrete and it will come right up. Just be happy you’re not having an algae problem in the water like I am right now lol it’s a nightmare
Hi there! I just put up a steel pro max 12'30" pool. I'm so confused! Haha we purchased liquid chlorine and I'm not able to find a straight forward answer on how much chlorine to add to the pool.
Just calculate your gallons and ive been told by many pool owners liquid chlorine is the best and your pool is probably about 1,718 gallons
The longer you go without chemicals, the more chance for bacteria, algae and other contaminants to grow
Have to do this much!
Easyand understandable thanks
I am confused about the weekly testing/balancing & weekly shock. Do I test/balance everything and then shock, on the same day? Do I shock and then test/balance everything, on the same day? Do I do these things at different times? Like test/balance on Saturday and shock on a Wednesday?
So is it a different process using well water to fill pool. Last year and this year we’ve had it crystal clear. But now fighting to get the ph and alkaline down to the right ppm. Help
Will i would still use the Clorox Pool tablets and shock it better I feel tho
Thank you for this!
Glad it was helpful!
mannnnn im still confused af
Hahaa same here!
Real
How much powered chlorine shock should I add to a 1800 gal pool? Shocked it for the first time tonight and think I needed 2oz but I didn’t know how to measure and did 4 tbsp.
Can I use an above ground pool without a filter?
