      Sorry I just saw this. What I made is my own version of a dish called Bubble and squeak, a British dish made from cooked potatoes and cabbage, mixed together and fried. The dish has been known since at least the 18th century, and in its early versions it contained cooked beef; by the mid-20th century the two vegetables had become the principal ingredients. I hope that helps!

    Ms, Pam I just now made the cabbage patties, I never cooked something so guickand delicious. I couldn't even wait till they were cool to eat! so I added Lawry's seasoning and some Tony's Creole seasoning with the rest of the ingredients. I also put in some corn starch for some cruch. I made 8 patties but I can't stop eating them 🥰😋

      I like the texture of the chunks. Thanks

    • @RRonco
      @RRonco 11 місяців тому +4

      I made them both ways, shredded vs chunks, and the texture is so different between them, they're almost a different dish!
      Whichever way your Mama made 'em is probably the way you prefer! The chunks is my preferred go-to for dinner - it's like Pam says in the instruction video above, so meaty and substantial, they always stick the landing when the hungry family hits the door! But in the morning or for brunch? Finely shredded little silver dollar cabbage patties, ooo so nice and crispy! Side by side with breakfast potatoes, I always think I'm making extra or going overboard, but there's never any leftovers!
      So much fun as always, Pam! Love the practical dinners & dinner sides!

      You can add anything you like but make sure that if you add much more than Pam suggested here that you go ahead and add another egg and more flour or they will just disintegrate 👍
      To recap...if you add more than 1 cup extra ingredients, you need to add 1 more egg and 1/2 cup flour.

      Don't use Crisco. It is absolutely horrendous for your body. Use oil olive instead. Also, try to avoid packaged bacon. I prefer processing the cabbage and eggs with an immersion blender before adding the rest of the ingredients. The taste is the same but the cooking is quicker and you need a lot less oil.

      @pearlydee2972 - greetings, if you can eat chia seeds you can create the vegan equivalent to eggs. Use equal amounts chia seeds to water, plus you can add seasonings and the chia seeds will absorb the flavorings. If more water is needed gradually add increments of 1 tsp till you are happy. Happy cooking!

    Hello!
    I had some cabbage in my fridge and was looking for a recipe to use it. Im so glad I came across this one. So simple and so good. My husband love it! Instead of frying it, i spread it on a baking sheet and baked it for 30 mins at first then flip it over and did 30 more mins for the crispy texture. It was sooo good. Thank you for sharing this recipe 😊

    • @CookingAtPamsPlace
      @CookingAtPamsPlace  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Bertha, I would be totally different, because the flour is not used to bread them, but it is incorporated in the mix. There is no breading per say on this recipe. However using corn flour would probably be good as well, just different. But worth a try! Thanks so much 💓💓💓

      @@CookingAtPamsPlace Although your recipe must be excellent, l was referring to possibly trying to use cornflour in lieu of regular flour as an additional experiment.

    Girl, it's 2:30 in the morning and this is good old Southern cooking! Can't wait for the night to end and make a quick trip to the store. The ingredients are very simular to my cabbage casserole recipe. I use browned hamburger meat instead of bacon and top with cheddar cheese after I put mixture in 9x13 inch casserole dish and bake on 350 degrees until golden brown. But now I just have to try your recipe!

    I feel like an idiot. I did not know how to slice the cabbage for this recipe so, like fried cabbage, I chopped it in 1-inch squares. Looking at the patties in your frying pan, I should have sliced cabbage like for cole slaw. Oh well. I live and learn. 😂😂

    Only thing I would change is the Crisco oil (industrial waste). Vegetable oils like Canola is bad, too. Both clog the arteries. Use extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, or avocado oil for cooking or frying, instead. Your heart will thank you.

Added a little garlic and fresh mint… lord have mercy they were delicious…even my brother who refuses to eat cabbage couldn’t help but dig in… only started acting funny after I told him it was cabbage… but he still came back for more with a frowning face😂😅
