I pirated the definitive edition today and I'm not even feeling bad about it. I'm not angry because of how the game looks.
-The performance is awful, my laptop with Ryzen 7 4800H and RTX 2060 should be more than enough to achieve 60fps in this game but it just can't. Even on lowest settings it is CPU bottlenecked, GPU utilization is not even 50% and it struggles to get 40-50fps average with poor frame-pacing making it not really enjoyable, and it's not even stable as I played for 20 minutes and already had one crash.
-A little gimmick but ruining the first look at the game is that all of three games uses the same gta san andreas sounds in menus, and none of the games have any loading screen music. Also, Rockstar never renewed the licence for some of music from these games, so many tracks are missing, just like in mobile and later steam versions of these games. In original when you launched a new game in GTA Vice City the first thing you could hear in the radio was Michael Jackson - Billie Jean, but because that music is not in the definitive edition, you hear Laura Branigan - Self Control instead.
-The worst thing however is controls, you can easily notice that the game was designed to be played on gamepad, as mouse control is awful, you can feel weird acceleration when you move your mouse fast and if you are in vehicle you can't easily control camera up and down, only left and right, and that's also something you can't change in settings. Also some keyboard controls are completely different than in original but that isn't that big of a deal. The weird thing is that when you ride a bike in San Andreas, CJ will always ride at full speed even if you just hold the W button, without tapping it rapidly like you had to do in original release.
-Menu options are broken and although you can change options with left and right arrow, you can't move around menu screen with up and down arrow and use the mouse instead. Also as I'm polish, I started the game in polish language which also is poorly translated, and that is weird because the original release got a very good unofficial translation.
This release is awful and I'm leaving [*] for everyone who spent any money on that game, Seeing that this game is also online-only if you bought it legally makes it even more hilarious and just shows how much rockstar games doesn't care about the quality of their products and about their consumers anymore. This is, in my opinion, probably the biggest disappointment of the year. I played 20-30 minutes of that crap and I will not launch that game anymore, unless some serious patches will appear.

I found some fixes to the performance issues, you can launch the game with -dx12 parameter (only with crack made by whiteee from what I know), which improves framerate a little bit, I don't know why there is no option to change API in the menu but it works, of course it will not work if your graphics card doesn't support directx 12.
The easiest way to run game with this parameter is to make a shortcut to game .exe file, then select this shortcut, right-click, go to "properties", and in the first editable text line with this file directory add -dx12 at the end, it should look like: "C:/GTA Trilogy/.../LibertyCity.exe" -dx12 (of course drive letter and folder name can be different, depending on where you have installed the game, also game executable is different to each game, LibertyCity.exe is for GTA III, you have to make seperate shortcut for Vice City and San Andreas.)
Also I noticed that if your CPU is a bottleneck, you may want to change reflection type setting to "screen space" rather than cubemaps or planar reflections, it can increase framerate by up to 15-25% like it was in my case, however it probably won't improve framerate much if the bottleneck was GPU. Overall with both those fixes applied now game never dipped under 60fps, and I played for over an hour and there were no crashes whatsoever, so stability and performance isn't a problem anymore, at least on my hardware with windows 10 20h2 and latest nvidia drivers.
BUT there is no fix to weird mouse controls in cars and lack of some music though (or at least not yet), and there are minor gameplay changes that still makes original release a better experience overall, but at least now it works as it should and it is "playable", but no way near to the point I will recommend it to anyone.
ROCKSTAR HAVE BUTCHERED THIS GAME, DO NOT BUY IT.
Look at all the videos posted on UA-cam with 1000's bugs, glitches, laziness character modelling, missing fog, freezing, crashing, removed over 40 songs, rain now looks completely disgusting and cant see anything happening, the Sky box looks ridiculous, like you can see a dividing line in the middle, Swimming instead of CJ's head just bobbing in the water, now half his body sticks out while bobbing, the water effects from hovering over in a plane or helicopter over the water are gone and is now replaced with some weird ripple effect. its a pure cash grab. Rockstar should be ASHAMED what they have released here.

Hell yeah. The mafia remake was badass. Major tweaks while still keeping the charm of the original game intact. Wish they could’ve done the same for mafia 2 instead of a shameless “reskin” of the same game 10 years ago

It keeps the style of the old games but puts a modern twist on it. The lighting and effects look gorgeous but that game itself still looks very much like the old versions

Brings me back to my prime days of childhood and when times were better and simpler, with my old Nokia phone typing 3 buttons for one letter, learning to skateboard, blasting Hybrid Theory and Chocolate flavoured Starfish on my speaker, out on my bike for hours with friends, Viva la Bam on MTV and just these 3 games (and Tony Hawk’s) to get lost into for hours when I was actually home. The good ol’ days, when the world isn’t what it is now. I miss it

Ngl I expected less from them, wanted a bit more but I'm happy with the way this looks, it's a happy medium. Mods are definitely the reason we all expected them to try and match or beat them a bit but there's a lot of smaller details that I see they've paid attention to, and that for me is good, better than muddy old textures being slightly sharpened

Hope not. I want to let them keep the game as original as possible. It's what made those games great at those times. We fell in love with the formula that worked. It's the games we grew up on. You wouldn't want your favorite games to do a "remaster" version and become completely different games, you'd think it's a disaster. Keep it as original as you can just improve the graphics slightly. Love that they still kept the cartoony graphics and blocky characters.

They have charm and it's been confirmed it has GTA V mechanics (radio and weapon wheel, driving controls) but what I really want is more interiors to enter and new clothes.

I’m not crazy about some of the screenshots for tommy vercetti but I like how they made Claude look. He looks the most improved but that’s easy to say since it’s the older of the 3 and needed the most work
I also really like the almost melancholy look they gave his face. I feel like it adds something to his character, almost like he didnt always want this life, but he is too far in to back out now, as well as the lingering sadness of his girlfriends betrayal. Simply perfection.

As much as these games were ground breaking back when they were released it's still been near twenty years since they were released and it shows. Yes, they've made the graphics passable and the gameplay looks to have been slightly updated but I can't justify the launch price. I will probably buy this in a sale in the future.

I think it's cool that they went the route of maintaining the original art style and polishing it up. It's very stylized. If we don't like it, then there's always GTA V and the online stuff. I'll definitely check this one out on release.
Yeah. I always modded GTA, but even with all the mods, it felt pretty inconsistent. Some applied to only some places while other mods affected other places. Not a single mod covered the entirety of the map. Seeing this makes me happy!
I hope they put ragdolls in the definitive edition. Sending people flying in with ragdoll mods on san andreas is so fun.

This remaster looks like how we remember the game looking in our childhoods and not how the old games actually looked. Which is just perfect. It means we will get the same nostalgic feeling from the games, but at the same time we wont feel disappointed that it looks outdated. Personally i think this is the best way the could have done the remaster

The difference is, when we played these as kids, they were like nothing we'd ever played before. They were innovative. Every new mission was like something fresh and exciting unfolding before our eyes. It was almost transcendant. Now these sort of games are just the standard. At least for me, anyway.

As a remaster, it looks pretty good. Still keeps that cartoony look the originals had too. That combined with all the information we got, including GTA 5-like controls, It's actually sounding promising. Still don't want to get my hopes too high, but so far so good. Can't wait!
It would be better if Rockstar remade China town wars with IV graphics instead of Trilogy.
Never played GTA 5 before. So, I was really looking forward that GTA SA didn't have its control changed. Because when I played the game before the trilogy trailer, it took me almost 2 years to master flying planes and many more.

Funny how Crysis,COD 4 has more polygons than GTA Remasters a 2020 game and those games like COD 4,Crysis were relased back in 2007 and 2008.

@@DC42087 well seeing the same game re-release along with new trailers, all the time really beats out the nostalgia. Now seeing a game that is hard to play on new hardware, with upgrades. It brings back all the nostalgia of that once loved game. We can never achieve this feeling with GTA V, as it's all ways relevant and does not give time to build up that nostalgia.
@@ChandranPrema123 mod overhauls will always be better, but I suppose this remaster allows mod to go way further. It's a shame their doing that to modders, I guess it's coz they know modders do the better job.
They seem to have removed the originals in favour of the remaster, on the rockstar store too.

I think they're just trying to keep it as old school as possible but added more modern graphics. I kinda like that didn't change everything. now if it was missing soundtracks form GTA 3, VC, and SA didn't fix anything then going to be piss off.
They better add all the myths and legends in to these games that we were looking for as kids!

I am more interested in the "quality of life" changes. Will they improve the controls? Maybe add first person camera? Being able to save whenever you want it (like in GTA V)? And so on
Edit: They confirmed they will add the controls from GTA V, so yeah, instant buy from me. Love these games. Vice City is the reason "open world" is my favorite genre.

@@wra7h actually there is code for a first person mode in GTA3, but first person didn’t make it into a GTA game until 5 on the PS4/Xbox One/PC upgrade. It’s possible that they could try to implement it now on the new engine since they said the controls and camera work will be more similar to 5.

Add Liberty City Stories as well as Vice City Stories to the pack as DLCs! Order them chronologically, like Halo MCC does:
1) Vice City Stories
2) Vice City
3) San Andreas
4) Liberty City Stories
5) 3
Those two masterpieces deserve to reach an audience beyond PSP/PS2/Emulation.
My low expectations for the remaster is make it optimised for modern machines.
There's still the question of what's been done with the content and I know the more cartoony aesthetic will be somewhat divisive but with low poly models like those, I'm sure it was the best call.
That's the only way to make Low-poly models work without being washed out or pixelated messes
