  • Day 7 - Sunbiggin Tarn to Kirkby Stephen, 8.5 miles.
I was dropped off on a rather warm morning back at Sunbiggin Tarn having spent the evening before in the pub having drunk numerous pints of beer whilst Manchester City won the UEFA Championship.
Heading out over the moors I got my first actual view of the tarn in the distance. The C2C followed the Dales High Way (this is definitely one for the future) for a while and then veered off towards Smardale Bridge.
Smardale Bridge is a stunning location tucked down in the valley. Passing over an old dismantled railway I eventually crossed the bridge and found a nice grassy spot for a break.
Heading up from the bridge gave an excellent view of the Viaduct and limekilns in the valley.
Back onto the moors up over Smardale Fell, I quickly hit a short road walk along foliage-heavy lanes. Through sheep fields under a railway bridge and eventually, into the back streets of Kirkby Stephen, it hit 30°C at this point and I was glad I'd had a relatively short day.
Here ended my 3-day stint on the C2C I'd covered about 36 miles over the 3 days which whilst isn't a lot was plenty for me, especially that first 15 miles to Shap. Whilst it had been very hot and I'd picked up a blister on the first day I'd thoroughly enjoyed what I'd done. Especially the Shap to Sunbiggin Tarn section.
I'm looking forward to my next section hike of the C2C and the fresh paths I'll be travelling until I get to Osmotherley, then it's back to the familiar but beautiful landscape of Cleveland.
Filmed on GoPro Hero 9 and edited in Filmora 12.
    Music from Epidemic Sounds.

I agree about the jeat - walked Dales Highway 10th to 18th June - some days were draining - 9 days walking and only had my waterproof out for 1hr - almost unheard of in the UK. Subscribed so I can watvh the rest and relive so many memories.
