We weren't able to do the final flights due to our other obligations (we manage and fly a number of jets). We hope to finish this fall. I'm estimating 10 hours for most pilots to obtain the LSA rating, it might be a bit less for some and more for others.
The string is an indicator of yaw, which is especially important in a turn. When the yaw string is centered you are using an appropriate amount of rudder, whether straight and level or in a turn. I fly gliders/sailplanes and is a common tool. You can also use a turn coordinator instrument.
