Zooming in on the second guys shot as he leaves the frame , he’s lookin over at ya . He probably saw you but most of them will do this if nobody else can see them seeing you. I’ve locked eyes a couple times with MOW crew, they’re usually chill too.

I once had similar experience, except the workers were directly working on the cars I was hiding in the well on -- I lay still for a good 5 minutes, not 5 feet from where they worked, before they noticed me. Told me to get lost and i did. Even if they hadn't seen me though I woulda moved

Great music again. we live 100 miles north of Spokane WA. My grandfather and uncle were engineers for the Great Northern. Grandpa Whitford was retired before I came along, but I remember Uncle Craig did the White Fish run a lot. enjoyed seeing the area again

You’re truly a natural with the camera in your hand, and your footage allows those viewing it to really get drawn into the location. At least for me. Perhaps it’s because I’m in DeKalb; and I’m sure you’ve been through here a time or nineteen, and I’ve traveled much of the lands you roam too. Looking forward to seeing that Duluth footage. I think you did a video on that last year; drone footage included, but didn’t get the rig actually moving; maybe? I can’t remember. It’s been about a year; I think. I’ve been past that very spot on HWY 53 I can’t tell you how many times in my life. Superior/Duluth is a hidden treasure in this country. Safe travels. ✌️

Last time I got the CN loading dock in action, and I was hoping to follow up with the BNSF version, which was originally the Great Northern, or at least I think it was. Mosquitoes must not be as bad everywhere as they are here in the south. You can’t stay outside at night. You can literally swipe your hand through he air and get a hand full. They are immune to deet. I haven’t found anything that’ll keep them off me. It’s absolutely miserable to be out at night for any time at all.
They can be awful up north too. It just varies based on location and recent rains. We've been a little drier than usual so they haven't been bad at all and we don't get them quite as bad as some places down south. The worst I've ever experienced anywhere was in Fargo ND!

. Neenah used to do more switching perhaps with the FOXY shortlines they pre block more for distant terminals including Green Bay. Those small covered Hoppers behind you are bound for Kremlin WI where they will load Roofing granules. There used to be a guy who photographed the daily SB train from Sault Sainte Marie as it passed through Menominee Marinette usually between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. This is a tough train in that is has very few good riding cars heavy on steel loads upfront with lots of boxcars loaded with paper empty tank cars no Intermodal. It usually has a token few covered hoppers (old BN or RCPE) and 1 or 2 with starch and have the good ends for riding. Going North there should always be empty gondolas going the full distance but coming back they're loaded with pipe way too dangerous. The odds are good it makes a stop at Gladstone. That was some great drone footage of the Green Bay Area which every year loses more of its interesting buildings especially along the river. Thanks for including it
CN doesn't have mainline near me, but that's the best way to get to Duluth. Madison has no mainline service so I can go to Portage, LaCrosse, or Chicago depending on where I'm headed. All three take a bus ride, so unless I'm wanting to ride out of portage to St. Paul it's generally quickest to just go to the Chicago area.

I ran into the Yard Buzzards once in Dunsmuir and we connected up a couple times when they were in my area. I’ve ridden in the units a few times, although I try to avoid them. Once in Pocatello I hid in the bathroom while the engine was inspected. I’m hoping my path crosses Shoestring at some point.

Then, I woke up to a transformer blowing, and the parking lot lights started flickering.. I found out about the girl a few days later from a friend of mine. I have a video of the lights doing that

Was also surprised to see so many CN and former CityRail engines in that part of the world. That is all I see on my turf up here. But I do recall Bill Gates owns approx 20 percent of CN and he's American. Well done brother..
Welcome aboard;) I think people that live by the tracks probably are used to seeing an occasional rider, but, you never know. I’ve definitely had people waiting at grade crossings call in on a couple of occasions. Not sure why anyone cares, but with cell phones at everyone’s disposal, it’s pretty easy for them to call in.
I’ve lived fairly close to tracks, like a couple of blocks anyway, before and it’s amazing how quickly you get used to it and sleep right through trains rumbling past. Now, being as close as those houses were, not sure how that is.
There are only two people on official train crews nowadays, the conductor and an engineer. In the yards there are extra utility workers to help out with switching etc. That was what they were doing, delivering and spotting a string of cars from my train. We picked up some cars too.
I think it might have been at one time but now it is a WATCO company. Actually, I looked and it was created when the state of wi took over some Milwaukee Road lines that were abandoned.
Great video, George! I live just three blocks east of where you were stopped in Neenah. Thanks for a view of my hometown from a vantage point I've never seen before. How those two trainmen never saw you is unbelievable. You were also stopped only a block from a Steel Highway railcam. Yep, you wound up on a local that wyed off onto the CN Fox River Sub through Appleton to Green Bay.
George- I lived half a block west of that exact spot- I could see the trains from my front yard... myself and my 2 boys sit just south of that spot and watch trains roll through!! Wave next time you roll through Neenah....... Stay safe!!
I grew up about 6 blocks east of the Soo Line/WC/CN yard in Neenah, back before the Winneconne Ave bridge was built over the tracks at the north end of the yard.

I live in Neenah. Lots of railfans in the area. Looks like you were on train A447. One of only 2 trains that go north to GB instead of continuing north towards Stevens Point and beyond. Tough break.
Yes, that’s certainly a possibility. I’ve gotten help from workers on multiple occasions on other railroads over the years. I do my best just to stay out of their way.

They don't really publish schedules and in some cases, they run trains on an as needed basis. It helps to have friends that are employees;)

In the 80's I was down in Biloxi, sees everyone use avon " skin so soft" .
But the other bug repells are pyrethrim and natural like lemon grass etc.
I found myself scrunched down farther in my chair so as not to get caught.

The E.L.&S. north of Green Bay to Channing, Michigan has some poor roadbed and slow going but good scenery in the autumn.

The Soo Line has a good roadbed and better management, that would be a much better ride and then you can view the locks.

With you being from Wisconsin why do you start around Chicago usually? For a longer trip, or better catch out spots?

I use a hero 9, my iPhone 13 and a Sony afx100. Mostly the Sony though. I also have a DJI mini 2 drone.

Great video, George! I live just three blocks east of where you were stopped in Neenah. Thanks for a view of my hometown from a vantage point I've never seen before. How those two trainmen never saw you is unbelievable. You were also stopped only a block from a Steel Highway railcam. Yep, you wound up on a local that wyed off onto the CN Fox River Sub through Appleton to Green Bay.
George- I lived half a block west of that exact spot- I could see the trains from my front yard... myself and my 2 boys sit just south of that spot and watch trains roll through!! Wave next time you roll through Neenah....... Stay safe!!
I grew up about 6 blocks east of the Soo Line/WC/CN yard in Neenah, back before the Winneconne Ave bridge was built over the tracks at the north end of the yard.
Pretty scenery and nice lash up and power move with Citi Rail,glad You wasn't seen by the yard crew. Good romp over the CN through WI,nice drone and camera footage George!🛤🚂

I live in Neenah. Lots of railfans in the area. Looks like you were on train A447. One of only 2 trains that go north to GB instead of continuing north towards Stevens Point and beyond. Tough break.

Yes, that’s certainly a possibility. I’ve gotten help from workers on multiple occasions on other railroads over the years. I do my best just to stay out of their way.
