  • Every big horror franchise has an entry hated by fans, and though it seems Halloween has more than a few, Halloween: The Curse Of Michael Myers has always been near the top of that list. But considering that this entry has more than a few good kills, a decent leading cast, a snappy pace, and an actual threatening Michael Myers, maybe we can admit it is not as bad as it gets credit for.

Fun story (or maybe you'll think it's boring...i dunno im not a freakin mind reader!)
I have a HUGE soft spot for this movie due to the circumstances surrounding it's premiere in my little city. I was 13 years old when me & 4 friends went to the theater opening night for the 8pm-ish showing. For some reason they oversold the movie for that time, so when we walked into the theater I kid you not it was completely packed, to the point there were around 2 dozen extra people just making camp in the aisles and using the big plastic garbage cans as seats! The only open spot we could find was bottom left of the screen sitting on the hard ass floor IN FRONT of the first row! The view was utter hell on our necks, but it didn't matter cuz the atmosphere was literally insane!
Everyone was so hyped, that the moment Michael makes his first kill sticking the nurse to the spike in the wall the entire theater erupted in wild cheering lol.
That went on for every. single. kill in the entire movie! It was just so cool, especially for a 13 year old kid.
Remember this was yeeears before any Marvel movies and back then other than laughter here & there, nobody was cheering or clapping for scenes in a movie.
The craziest part of the whole thing was about halfway thru, the smell of weed permeated down to us, and as we looked around we eventually saw a group in the middle literally casually passing around a joint lmao.
Being 13 we weren't smoking weed yet (give it maybe 3 more months 🤷‍♂️) but we smoked cigarettes, so a few of us decided to take our chances and light up right there in front. The teenage ushers (who were also constantly popping in & out to watch the movie themselves) didn't rat on anybody or tell anyone to stop doing what they were doing, so it was this almost cool little community vibe, ya know?
Anyway, that's the reason I'll always love this movie, because I have such fond memories attached to it 💖

I prefer to think of Michael as a mortal, but very crafty and motivated serial killer - certainly a cut above the most, as he seemingly survives situations that would kill most, but he's not a zombie, or evil incarnate. I like Loomis dwelling on that, though, because like Captain Ahab or Victor Frankenstein (a nod to the first film) his long term experience with Michael has made him world weary, clearly suffering from PTSD. The whole thorn-thing really ruined the franchise.

Or the writers saying they intended him to be superhuman.

Halloween 6 is worth a watch for the intrique surrounding its troubled production and the rumor-turned-real Producer's Cut. And I also love Michael's mask in the movie. It looks like it was made of granite or stone, as immovable and enduring as the ancient evil controlling him. Though I do wish his coveralls were darker. the light blue doesn't work so well for a stalking killer who lurks in the shadows and the dark of the night.

The Curse of Michael Myers and why I like the film: This is only from the theatrical version.
Michael Myers is scary in in the movie. The mask is the best since the original film. I know the same mask was used in the second but Dick Warlock’s big head made the mask look odd in the second film. The movie has a great soundtrack. Donald Pleasence gives one final performance as Dr. Loomis. The movie is darker and scarier and does a good job of building up tension. The scene where the house wife, Debra Strode is in the house by herself and she’s terrified is a great part of the movie because it is so relatable. Who among us hasn’t been home alone and scared at some point? The biggest jerk in the movie and maybe even in the franchise gets electrocuted and his head explodes in a practical effects spectacular.
I’ve heard Paul Rudd’s performance criticized but I don’t get why. He is playing a character that is weird because he went through some very traumatic stuff as a child. He character isn’t normal, he is awkward and socializes differently than most people. I think Rudd nails the performance.
Could the movie have been better? Sure, but I think the idea of a cult forming around a famous killer is a good concept. The cult could have attributed their own meanings to the killings by Michael Myers and they could have tracked Michael and used tranquilizers to subdue him and transport him places in their efforts to control him. But I think the movie would have been better had the message of the movie been more clearly defined as being that you cannot control evil. Michael does kill the cult members at the end but I think it would have been better had Michael never appeared as a willing participant of the cult unless made more clear that he was using the cult as a means to an end.
And it’s also never established what the green stuff is that Tommy(Paul Rudd) injects Michael with a few times. Seeing how it didn’t seem to have much effect, I’m going to assume it was the Re-Animator fluid and just kept Michael going…So the ending is a bit weak but Michael wasn’t killed by a beating with a board, he did survive as we hear him get to Dr. Loomis at the end. But at least Tommy continued to hit Michael when he was down instead of doing the normal horror movie trope and thinking all is well once the killer is down.
This was just my opinion on a film that I quite enjoy and rank second on my list of Halloween films.

  • @viciousblissvideos
    @viciousblissvideos 2 роки тому +3

This one is still great and looks like a masterpiece compared to what they make today. Paul Rudd brought a lot of credibility to that character and made the explanations about Michael seem believable. The first movie handicapped itself and the sequels because Carpenter and Hill humanized him too much and even had him driving. Michael just magically learned to drive? Was Haddonfield just a straight shot from the sanitarium? Did he know how to find addresses? How did he know his own address? Everyone likes to pretend that the first movie was flawless and didn’t introduce a lot of problems, but it did.

The mask from Halloween II is the very same mask that was used in Halloween, the only reason it looks different is because there is a different actor underneath it. Dick Warlock who portrays The Shape in 2 had a different shaped head (rounder) to Nick Castle from Halloween 1 thus the mask looking a little different. Also, between movies, it was kept in a shoe box under Debra Hill's bed and suffered smoke damage as she was a heavy smoker.

Part 6 was actually one of my favorite in the series. It definitely wasn't as bad as so many others pan it out to be in my opinion.
My best to worst in the original film Series is: Part 1, Part 4, Part 2, Part 6, Part 5, Part 7 (H20), Part 8 Resurrection, Part 3: Season Of The Witch.
All others: Halloween (2018), Rob Zombie's Halloween, Zombie's Halloween 2, Halloween Kills.... And I haven't seen Halloween Ends yet but from what I've heard it would most likely be at the end of all others combined.

Still my 2nd favorite in the franchise! I understand why some don’t enjoy it, but the thick, Fall atmosphere, dark, edgy vibes, full-on Boogeyman-mode Myers, cast, kills; this is just a total-package slasher for me. One of my favorite 90s horror films along with Event Horizon and Scream.

    3 guys played Michael Myers
First was George P. Wilbur played The Shape In The Producer's Cut, but when reshoots happen, A. Michael Lerner Played Michael Myers & Make-Up Effects Artist & Actor Brad Hardin Played Michael Myers In A Couple Shots with 2ND Unit doing pickup shots, Before Lerner was in for the day.

Halloween needed Halloween II since Carpenter felt that Michael's story wasn't definitively wrapped up with the first entry. There was a passing reference to his rampage in Haddonfield over the radio in Season of the Witch, but that was going to be it for Michael since Carpenter wanted each successive Halloween movie to be different, standalone stories with a Halloween night theme. Fans of Michael Myers booed Season of the Witch since he wasn't present and demanded more Michael and Carpenter stopped directing the film series and abandoned his intended vision.

This is the first Halloween movie I saw when it came on TV in '96. I had no history with the franchise at the time, and I wasn't too into it. H20 was the first one I saw in theaters, and then my brother got the first one right after in vhs, and then I worked my way up to 6 (it was a pain trying to find 2-5 at the video stores in those days).
Looking back at this movie, yeah it was a mess, but I will give credit where credit is due. It was my introduction to the series, so I guess I'll stand by it today. I'm glad I picked up the box set of all the movies, so I was able to watch the producers cut after it was released. It was better to watch on my TV instead of on UA-cam where the footage was choppy from bootlegged copies.
I know I'll catch a bit of flack for this, but this movie was pretty much better than the Blumhouse trilogy that came out. Even though 2018 wasn't too bad, to be honest.

After reading a number of the reviews on Halloween Ends, The Curse and Resurrection may have some company atop that throne. At least you get to see Myers more often in the two latter flicks. I still remember seeing Rudd in Clueless that same year, who would have thought he'd blown up like he has, something good came out this flick at least.

@@GisherJohn24 lol I know right... I think Halloween 5 might have had the worst one, subjective of course. The old adage, if it's not broke, don't fix it. The Shatner mask in the first movie worked, simple, easy to see in the shadows from a viewers perspective and had enough creep to it.

    • @GisherJohn24
      @GisherJohn24 2 роки тому

@@MacMc691 it's like all the people in hollywood after Halloween 2 knew nothing about the importance of the mask! His shapeless identity was mostly due to that original mask. Did you see the flashbacks in halloween kills? That's how you bring back the classic correctly. Watch the flash backs of Halloween Kills and you'll see the mask in all it's glory. Looks perfect.

    • @MacMc691

@@GisherJohn24 I loved it. They did a great job making the set look like it did in the original and the mask was spot on. Even the set guy, or whoever he was that played Loomis, looked enough like Pleasence that it felt like you were back in the original. Myers' mask is synonymous with Halloween, do it right... lol

I will defend H6 till the end of time. It does not deserve anywhere near the amount of abuse it receives. Sure, when we consider it alongside the previous films and the original, we have context for its flaws. But it's easily the scariest Halloween movie and it's the most intimidating Myers IMO, shit still creeps me out to this day.

I actually enjoyed H6 more than H5. They had to work with the silliness, mysteries, and questions that were left in H5. I like the atmosphere, feels like a Halloween (season) film, this is the best mask since the original/II For me, The kills were brutal and you can feel how in raged Michael is in this film despite his blank and mute nature.
