My first computer was the TRS-80 MC-10. I used to code a LOT of stuff on it. I missed the shortcut keys a lot moving to a new system. But the better keyboard overall was nice.

I owned a Timex Sinclair when I was about 13-ish. It was a bonus give away at a local furniture store. I didn't own any software for it. Everything had to be typed and then saved on cassette tape. Tedious, but I didn't know how to type at the time! Yet it was great insight as to how logic worked even though it didn't lead me to a tech career.

Atari 400 has to be on this list! ZX spectrum too. Oh, and First!

1:18 is that a typo or am I missing a Tandy inside joke?

We've been having a pretty good laugh about it. Our editor Christian is pretty embarrassed!

Kinda surprised you haven't mentioned the original Tandy Color Computer keyboard, similar keys as the MC10. Perhaps the second try of the CoCo as well, the 'melted keyboard'. The ZX80 has similar keys to the Timex Sinclair 1000. The Oric 1 is also worth mentioning, same as the original PET 2001 keyboard. Ever tried that? These are literally calculator keys.

Atari 400 keyboard was great ... compared to the Timex Sinclair 1000. I mean, it had slight depressions at least, and a LITTLE tactile feedback. And the beep sound for feedback. And also the Atari 400 itself was really heavy and solid thanks to its cast metal tub construction. So, the thing actually stood perfectly still as you mashed down the keys.
TS-1000? What a featherweight! Thankfully, I never used one with a memory expansion, since those things apparently would jiggle when you pressed the keys and crash the computer.
Knowing what I know now, if I try to use a TS-1000 keyboard again I think I'll try to use it like a big thumb keyboard. Maybe holding the computer between my palms would help some.

Did you mean BOTTOM 5 worst?
    TOP 5 worst means:
    1) you collect all the worst keyboards
    2) then you select TOP 5 of them - 5 best of 100 worst

Oric One (1982) has a nasty chicklet keyboard too, the innards are pretty dire too for the year it was released. 1MHz 6502 and teletext graphics only.
The stylish Oric Atmos (1984) a proper keyboard, quite stylish case, shame about the innards, 1MHz 6502 etc.
    Oric Telestrat (1986 France) with a 1MHz 6502A inside...
A very slow outdated CPU and godawful graphics. they were selling a 1979 era compute all through the 80s.
A modern version of the ATMOS case with room for Raspberry Pi would be a winner.

Having owned a ZX-81 and having worked on many, many computer systems over the course of almost 40 years (being a professional computer programmer), I agree that the ZX deserves the number 1 spot. The TI 99/4A was pretty bad as well. And once I had to work on a keyboard, of which I can’t remember the name, and which looked like a decent mechanical one, but it typed so lightly that accidental multiple strokes occurred all the time.

Not only was the US Timex Sinclair one of my very first computers but I actually tried to use it to write, save and play my own BASIC programs (mostly text adventures). I still remember one time when I spent a long time writing my code directly on this thing but before I could save it to tape, my dog came in and accidentally pulled the AC plug from the wall and caused me to lose all my work. Ah, good times:) Great content, thanks for your channel:)

Atari would've been better suited making the 400 as originally intended: with the keyboard as an accessory to be plugged into the 3rd and 4th joystick ports. Then there could've at least been an upgraded design or 3rd party support. Oh well.

Top 5 worst creations. From the top of my head the Apple III, Apple Twentieth Anniversary Mac, Enterprise64, IBM PCjr, the Tandy MC 10 can be on the list too, perhaps the IBM PS/2 line (which also failed in a way), the Commodore Amiga 600, Commodore CDTV, Philips CD-i, the NeXTcube (yes, that failed in a way too). you get the idea ..

Some older computer/consoles whilst not the worst creations per se did end up financial disasters. Things like Coleco Adam, TI99 4a, Commodore 16 / Plus 4,, Sinclair QL, Amstrad CPC+ / GX 4000, IBM PS/2, Apple Lisa, Acorn Electron, Atari Jaguar, Bandai Pippin

OMG!!! I was wondering if the T/S1000 would be on the list. I was given one from a friend who upgraded to a Franklin (Apple clone?) I really wanted to learn programming, but that thing was a nightmare to program. It probably would have been better if I had some type of storage device with it, but every time I wanted to try a game, I would have to program the game in, and the ones out of the magazines never seemed to work first time. I don't think I ever actually got a single program to run on that thing.! LOL

@@jacobjones9071 The keys them self are not too bad, but the layout is terrible. I have TI99. Backspace requires a combination of keys and everything is cramped. It was one of the worse engineered computer.

All my retro computers have decent keyboards - Commodore 64, Tandy CoCo 3, and Commodore 128.
