- This is rather different from my usual videos. It starts out on Confederate Avenue and ends at the base of Little Round Top, combining GoPro footage with some static maps. It shows the initial advance of Hood's Brigades running into Ward at Devil's Den and Rose's Woods. More to follow...
Haven't walked much of this area during my over a dozen trips visiting the Gettysburg battlefield, and good to see this area accordingly. Also, the camera seems to move a bit too quickly in spots, and seems a few breaks in footage as well, causing a loss in bearings, yet enjoyed seeing this video and the perspectives it brings, thank you.😎👍
Just discovered your channel. Great series of videos. Now subscribed.
Very enjoyable and informative trip through my favorite section of the battlefield. I’ll bring my hiking shoes on my next visit
It is quite interesting that few people ever venture down these paths.
this is a great channel btw . subbed . looking forward to the content
Thank you. I have wanted to walk the path if Hood’s men. You did it for me. Well filmed and well produced and edited. All Incan say is Holy crap how could Hood’s men have ever taken and held that ground. It must have been hell on earth.
No doubt. That ground is an absolute maze of rocks and briars etc.
Thank you!
Great video, can’t wait for the next video you release
I had an ancestor who fought with Company B 99th PA- Sgt David Alva Barnett
Thank you for sharing!
At the center of the screen, at 6:55, is the site where a famous photo (by Gardiner?) was taken of two dead rebels. Low boulders and a split rock at the site are indicators of the exact position where they were killed.
Thanks for pointing that out John, that fact totally slipped my mind. This link from the Park Service shows a then and now comparison on photos in the Devil's Den area. www.nps.gov/gett/learn/photosmultimedia/devil-s-den-then-and-now.htm
So what was your tick count afterwards? I think I had a regiments worth on me the last time I made that walk!
"The best three hours’ fighting ever done by any troops on any battlefield."
Excellent video !
Oh by the way amazing video..... Kudos!
Keep them coming
At 4:33 you mention Benteen at the LBHB..... My good sir I thank you..... 😀😀😀😀😀
hahaha. I have been waiting to use that Benteen line for months. BTW I am planning to hit the Sioux War trail in August. Maybe I will post my Ft. Lincoln footage in a week or so.
I'm rather knowledgeable on the Sioux/Red Clouds war if I can be of any help.
@@dannygreenii5611 Outstanding. I wrote a paper recently for my Masters on the 1876-77 conflict on how to wage a counterinsurgency without winning hearts and minds. If you do not mind, I can "ping" you for a couple of ideas.
Couldn’t you have picked a nicer day to go there? 😊
What is the Music @ 6:53- 8:57?
Justin. This is a song from one of the sites I subscribe to called, "Adagio for Fallen Heroes."
@@MilitaryHistory317 Thank you and thanks for the content- really inspired me to dig deeper into my GG-Grandfathers Civil War experience. If you run out of idea's I'd like to see your take on the Battle of Franklin and follow on Nashville.
@@Skynet_01 Ah yes. I have some footage of Franklin, but need to get back down there for that and Chickamauga!
if only pickett was on the field and Andersons brigades of posey and mahone were engaged .. or if even longstreet was on time this battle would’ve been much different.. what if
I think you need to stick to the maps
Indeed, I think maps and horseback. However, I do not like horses...long story.
Hood was cast too old in 'Gettysburg'. He looks like an angry Grampa in the film. He was supposed to be young (33) and dashing. A ladies man.
way to confusing
