Felt like I was back in my electronics class from many many many years ago. Great video.

I know I'm looking at this almost four years late, but good video Tom, felt like I was back in class at DeVry.

Your welcome John. It's been a long time for me also since I learned that stuff. lol

Thanks, Tom. You're a great teacher. Now that I am retired, you and some of your other down to earth colleagues have convinced me to finally build my pike after 50 years of being too busy.
    Best wishes, Chuck

Thanks Chuck. Glad I could help. No time like the present to get back into the hobby.

I may finally be catching up Tom!!
I believe stuff like this is good for beginners and advanced alike. By the age of 54, I've forgotten more than I've learned!!! 😁😜
These electrical practices really come into play when doing LEDs, or more complex tasks. Thank you for this!!

Thank you for all your support watching and commenting on these videos Murph. Much appreciated. If your get caught up watching, that means I have to produce some more videos. I better get working on it. lol

wow Tom you have taken me back 20 years, to my trade school days, lol. amazing I still see all these and more working from prints building hydro yards.
good firsts steps video for understanding electrical cir,

Thanks Dave. Since I had all the questions for the power supply video, I thought it would be a good idea for this one.

Just found your site recently and have enjoyed/learned a lot. With regard to this video, I was expecting you to also go over the ratio involved in Ohm's Law, especially with respect to the 3 terms probably most often heard/cited in model railroading equipment with respect to electricity - Volts, Amps, Watts; I think a lot of people may not understand the relationship between power and volts and current.. Perhaps you cover this in another video - I will keep searching. I will be watching your videos and appreciate what you are doing for the hobby.

This was informative. I downloaded the Atlas drawing software. How do you get the software to show changes in height? Elevated trains and the like?

When I do my load calculations I figure a half amp per locomotive and locked rotor current of two amps. Yes, I know modern locos are more efficient than that. I base my figure off old Athearn blue box locos, of which I have many.
And yes, I am an electrician, among other things.

so is it too soon to get into L E D's and the resistors, what size you need and why. what more or less resistance does to the light, and the life of the LED.

I have 6 follow up videos scheduled already related to electrical theory, one of them is LED and Resisters. Your thinking ahead of me. lol

I started playing solitaire just like I used to do when my prof lectured us. Good stuff Tom. Another good reference video. -M€RK^2

Thanks M€RK^2, I bet your good at solitaire by now. lol.
      But Wait!!!!
If you stick around, you'll get 10 more videos related to this SAME subject matter at no extra cost to you what-so-ever! In no time, you can become the electrical genius you always dreamed about and build that DCC layout with bells and whistles in no time. Don't forget to Ding that bell and blow that whistle to show your support.
