  • Join me as I clean and repair an HP Pavilion desktop PC from the early 90s. This computer has been in storage for years and was not working last time I tried turning it on. It has a Pentium 75 MHz processor. This is the first Pentium computer my family owned, and the first computer that would actually play the Descent video game without stuttering. It also had a dial-up modem. Awesome!

Awesome seeing that old HP custom UI page!

Thanks for this! I've been looking everywhere for the HP GUI that they had back in the 90's, as there seems to be hardly anything on Google (or even UA-cam). I believe we had the Pavilion 7410p (or similar) in 1996-1997 when I was around 6-7 years old, which came with a few games like The Magic School Bus: Explores the Solar System (although that was probably added-on in store). I remember the guy doing the instructional videos, the program categories like Entertainment and Personal Stuff, practicing with the mouse etc. So awesome!
My mind was blown when I actually managed to see the Windows 95 Desktop back then, as prior to that I had used my Dad's Toshiba laptop and knew what Windows 3.1 looked like so was wondering why our new PC was so different. Nostalgia at it's finest!

This is awesome. I've never been able to find a photo of my childhood PC. I know the model number. It was 90mhz. I remember the sound it made when you turned it on. But no photo of it exists online. I wish I had kept it.
It had a front end for kids that I eventually bypassed to get to windows 3.1 and DOS. I ended up installing Windows 95 on it when games started requiring it.

Dude please tell me you still have this machine and have the ability to dump an image of that hard drive
I really wanna find a way to get personal page working on non-hp machines, or even get the image running in a VM
