The rear end still looks good. However the front end from the side is not as sleek. Probably looks better in person and other colors. Also the aero wheels here are a little over designed. Still going to be one of the best looking new electric cars out based on this. Compared to the bloated puffer fish Benz. The Taycan is still safely the best looking electric car
I love the side and rear view its some my favorite , the front as well because it's different and they didn't just make the headlights thin asf like other car companies
@@jpizel1070 I don't think it's about rational or irrational. Maybe you simply understand the design requirements of production cars, and other people don't.
It's like they stretched everything up and then put smaller wheels on it. Funny part is, if we never saw the concept, we would probably have less to be disappointed about
I completely agree. If the concept wasn't so good and unrealistic nobody would of complained since the final version looks great. It just needs bigger and better wheels.
Yep. They added height between the top of the arch to the hood/rear and that added to the beltline of the whole car making it a MESS. Ugh. Sleek to amorphous.
The rear end design has grown on me after seeing it a few times at different angles. People taking a dump on it for not looking like the concept or comparing it with a porsche should understand that it's a value EV that looks well above its price range.
First thing that came to mind when I saw it was the AMG GT 4 Door, mainly the shape and the way the rear end looks from the side. I also think that the front bumper area looks strange and..over-designed? I just feel like there’s a lot happening in that section. Other than that, I do like the design quite a bit, even if it doesn’t fully resemble the concept. I love the quirky and wild designs Hyundai and company are coming out with lately. They’re clearly having fun in the design department
kinda odd that the similarities between merc and hyundai group are starting to get really close.. merc's eqxx basically looking like a sedan ev6, the rear lights on the ioniq 6 being amg gt4door,
Yes the Prophecy looks fantastic, but as a sedan if you had wheels that big the cabin and frunk capacity would be greatly diminished. I still think the Ioniq 6 looks amazing.
You said that the car gives you, overall, a Nissan Z vibe which I got after you pointed it out. However, my initial view of the silhouette gave me way more of a Porche vibe than a Z. Fun to see what different feelings people get from a single design
When I saw the rear of this car, I instantly thought of the 2023 Genesis G90's tail lights albeit, a little more simplified. In fact, the whole car reminds me of a Genesis if I'm to be completely honest here. I actually like the overall design of this car and let's not forget that pictures don't do cars justice. Regardless, I look forward to seeing the IONIQ 6 on the road.
I felt they should have pushed the design envelope a bit more toward the Prophecy. Especially as they'll soon be cancelling the Sonata. It's still a unique design if not daring. It just dawned on me that the production spec reminds me of the Citroen DS.
Great design but hmmm. The front end shape is giving me pause. It just doesn't line up with the rest of car proportionally. Feels pinched with that steep dip and should've extended out further to preserve the sleek line. Guessing Hyundai thought the car would be too long
Regulations is not a excuse. For the taillights, they could have kept the original design of the lights, and use a duplicate, complaince OK light up, inside the back window glass, just dots for turn, RDL, brakes...
The black plastic part that hugs the rear door shut line and continues to the rear bumper doesn’t work too well. It looks unfinished to me. The front fascia is almost there, they just need to remove two or three extra elements from it- it’s a bit too complicated. Ultimately this is a very unique design, and a lot had to be changed for production, and there are many successes with the design
I'm liking it so much more than I thought I would have. My biggest issue is the headlights and front bumper. The headlights should've been a little thinner and sleeker, and the lower front bumper elements look too busy.
It seems like it will look better in the same gloss black paint that the prophecy used. The silver worked for the ioniq 5 because that was boxy but not so for a sleek saloon. You'd want a darker colour to hide the lines so it appears even sleeker.
I feel like its 2 different cars from the front and rear. The front is giving me 2000s VW beetle vibe, and the rear a benz coupe sedan. The front feels blander too compared with the rear.
I wish they would have tried to stick true a little but that back end and front end just needed to be more in line with the concept and push the boundaries a bit for production vehicle
If only Hyundai tied in the front design elements of the IONIQ 5 with this model then I think the car would be stellar and complete. Getting rid of the big headlights on the IONIQ 6 you can see some design philosophies of the 5.
I feel like the production version really looks like they combined the Sonata and Elantra. It’s not bad but not what I was expecting to see as the final.
production version looks like a clowned version from the prototype. the headlight looks like it's a custom headlight for tiburon. the front bumper black line makes it look like it came from 2000s which is kinda bruh for my taste which prefers clean bumper with no weird lines
3:50 I see Saab when i look at the rear end. Im not mad about it. I think this looks great. We lost so much from the concept but what they gave us is not bad. Its no LF-LC to LC500 tho in concept to production.
Okay not going to lie, the look is starting to grow on me. The only thing that could improve the design is make it a bit wider, like give wider fender flares or something.
The Ioniq 6 doesn't look bad but it has a totally different feel from the concept, almost as if they designed an expensive luxury GT sedan then corporate said they needed an economy sedan and they had to adapt the design accordingly.
for me, the front end is the problem, I see they are trying to call back Hyundai Tiburon headlights, but it doesn't fit with the whole design. 7:25 but I do like the rear end design of the middle drawing, the rear lights are kinda in the shape of a letter H. that's nice. but, I understand why they ditched it, it strays too far from the original concept.
Chopping off some of the headlamp height and placing some of them within/below the bumper area would give the car a more wider and planted stance, besides that overall a top effort by Hyundai from concept-to-reality.
I think it still looks great. I prefer the prophecy, but there is a reason it was a concept car. I think the Ioniq 5 spoiled us in how close they were able to make the production car similar to the concept car. I think this will look better in person, so I'm holding my final judgement until I see one.
I think the front bumper looks a lot better in the concept. I don't understand why they put graphics in that bumper instead of the clean lines the concept had. Totally unnecessary imo.
We decided to redesign its rump over at: ua-cam.com/video/QnfxtuE8vEo/v-deo.html. TBH, the UK motoring press who went to the pre-announcement event seemed waaaay too enthusiastic. Even the digital mirrors are a bit meh compared to those on the Honda e. The Ioniq 5 IS a great piece of design and the Kia EV6 too. But this and the upcoming Ioniq 7 don't float my boat one bit!
well hyundai is doing a great job. i like it. 😍 i still think hyundai is creating closer to concept compare to other car companies. but concept is really cool
without knowledge of how the concept looked, I would say it was decent looking but something still looked wrong with knowledge of the concept, I will say that this is a major disappointment
They killed the front softly, but murdered violently the back. The front is higher, but the back is destroyed, way normal and way higher than the prototype. Like Honda, they killed a great design.
I haven't liked many of this guy's videos. If he's whining about how the concept is not captured in the production version, I remember how GM used to have real show cars that invoked the styling direction that the company was pursuing in its heydays of the 1950's and 1960's. Realistically styling concept cars only provide a DIRECTION, not the actual production version. I love how this vehicle has incorporated interior space while maintaining a unique look that instantly makes the Tesla models look 20 years old. What Hyundai has done is to take the concept and to turn it into something practical.
I UTTERLY hate this. What a massive departure from the concept. It now looks like an oversized VW Beetle. Also giving me modern day Ford Sierra vibes. Yuck. 🤮

Every time a car company has a cool concept, they rape it and then bring the left overs to market.
The MB Civic?
The concept wasn't a real concept. To have humans sitting comfortably and still keep the proportions would've required 30 inch wheels.
Exactly. This is what irrational people don't understand.
Yeah, I think some of the people in the comments are trolls or delusional with the way they're criticizing the differences. Are they that dumb?

I completely agree. If the concept wasn't so good and unrealistic nobody would of complained since the final version looks great. It just needs bigger and better wheels.
Too true. The concept is just too good to exist. But the 6 is pretty damn cool looking. Maybe it would be better in black.
In my opinion the biggest loss were the wheel arches. Completely missed on the sporty wide arches of the original concept.
Yep. They added height between the top of the arch to the hood/rear and that added to the beltline of the whole car making it a MESS. Ugh. Sleek to amorphous.
Unfortunately that’s usually what happens when going from concept to production. Also in my opinion the wheels of the concept look way better
It wasn't an aesthetic choice but a regulatory one

Genesis is Hyundai's brand so it isn't too surprising

Porsche Panamera in the front, Mercedes CLS 2006 in the back.
Not a fan of the headlights. They're disrupting the whole front design.
The front is a Hyundai Tiburon
Regulations is not a excuse. For the taillights, they could have kept the original design of the lights, and use a duplicate, complaince OK light up, inside the back window glass, just dots for turn, RDL, brakes...
I kind of expected all of the ioniq lineup to have a consistent design, sharing the same lights, and the pixel theme

Dark and gloss paint scheme is all we need here.
I kind of feel that the new rear looks, especially with the Wing, a lot like the SAAB 9-3 Phoenix concept.
I’ve been excited for this video.

That lifted spoiler gives it the same stupid jelly bean shape to the wind. But to us it gets cut up nicely. I like it.
The "Prophecy" concept is combining the front and back of a Porsche with the side curve of a Mercedes coupe from the 2000s.
rear reminds me of original cls with a bit of new g90. I dig it
i want to know more about your course sir ,
1. does the course offer a certificate at end
2.does it only apply for car design or product design also
the concept is so perfect
Both Ioniqs look like the future and I love their designs
Blame the engineers. “Oooo that cut line…. We’ll… just do the ones we’ve always done. Yeh. That’s fine”
I see a little CLS Merc in it.That concept looked so cool not surprised they toned it dn.but why?
The front looks like it has one of those French mustaches.
I can't speak for the front and rear that are regulation-bound, but it's a huge missed opportunity to not have frameless windows on the doors.
The production version resulted in a design that looks like some European models of the 90s, while the concept design did seem quite avant-garde...
The rear half looks like if the Porsche 911 become a stretched saloon
It looks better and better every time I see it, but it's a bit bland at the front. Also, it should be just a little wider
i think the black front air vent thing is the problem, black one would look better
this looks like a mix between saab 900 and citroen c6 to me. ofc smoothed up for aero

That front end is not good in my opinion. Rear end is where it’s at 🔥
Front and rear are so messy, whilst the side looks so good
Side looks bad , it looks like it got rear ended , it looks like a mid side car trying to be a full size
There's maybe some hope the Prophecy can be a Genesis model in the future. Def has the Genesis look
I swear I had seen that rear before and then it clicked; the droopy butt and tail lights are a dead ringer for the Infiniti J sedan from the 90’s.
