Painter here, I've tried this before, it was only $10 at menards. It was awesome for the first day. Used it for hours and ran a few tunes of caulk through it. But from the next day on it was garbage. The grip tape to stop it from slipping was a mess with caulk, where it wouldn't grip the tube anymore. I would imagine the blade not lasting more than a couple weeks. This is an awesome tool for homeowners! Not so great for contractors.

@@StonemanRocks people won’t want to sharpen a blade. We have disposable razors for a reason. They probably need to use utility knife blades. Although they also need to solve the issue with caulking seeping into the gun first if that really is an issue.
I've been looking for a nice concealable, everyday carry caulk gun. You never know when you might need it and concealability is key, especially when the element of surprise works to your advantage. Can't wait to feel the trigger and recoil.
Speculating, looks great in theory, I would imagine with changing orientation to the nozzle as you pressed the trigger to be adding difficulty to feel/accuracy and added resistance (more so that the alternative) with a blade to be a negative point. Possible future failings would be worn grip tape, added difficulty due to resistance to change the mastic tube and wow when that thing gets gunked up... I cant imagine it would last more than a few days onsite
Not to mention the fact that the seal piercer rod has to completely detach before it can be used to puncture a sealed tube. That means most people will never remember or figure how to re-install after the first use. Not a big deal, as most contractors have a spare piece of copper or steel wire, but still, I see this thing in the trash after it's first couple of uses by most users.
I use this every day as a trim installation plumber in new construction. No other tool I have gets me more attention than this! The design is not a cure-all for all applications. I only use it for silicone & caulk, and it works great. If you want to use it in long-length lines, this may not be for you. Not easy to keep a consistent bead with constant pressure.
I've been installing carpet for 26 yrs and hate using those big bulky guns to put up cove base, this thing is genius!!! I absolutely will be getting one for cove base adhesive. Thank you so much for another awesome video. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and New year??

@@jimjones395 some adhesives have the same viscosity as silicone. Many adhesives are silicone based. Let the man give it a shot and send a new business some cash and incentive to keep improving this thing. Worst case scenario he has the best day ever installing cove base and the next day the tool is trashed from all the adhesives and he writes a strongly worded letter to Siligun so they improve its design and these can be ready for job sites in a more timely manner. It’s tool evolution and don’t you dare try and stop any early adopter of the technology. Let it run its course. It will sink or swim. Without early adopters it is doomed to fail.
Buy an electronic dispenser! Especially if you're running quart size tubes... the Milwaukee m12 version is nice and light vs. the other 18/20v brands 👍
I use the siligun every day! I've put so many tubes of caulk through it and it still works the same as it did on day one. All these people in the comments saying it sucks or after the first day it didn't work anymore I'm pretty sure they aren't using it right or are doing something wrong because I've put it through an incredible amount of work and it still works fine.
Great to hear this feedback. When I go through the Amazon review it seems that the positives are all from pros which is very promising. Many homeowners will leave the tube in the gun which really can lock it in there if a little got on the plunger. At least remove a partially used tube if doing this.

Best would be a backpack mounted tool with a hose you hold and put anywhere you want but then you gotta clean the hose and the longer the hose the more waste, but there's gotta be a way to do it maybe with compressed air.
Once again, you've showed me something that is really cool and that I wasn't aware of. A unique design for sure. I think they just need to improve it a bit and make it stronger / more powerful so it can be used for all tube products and with no worry of breaking it.
This isnt a bad caulking gun and definitely has its perks. Another good one i can recommend because i think its the best gun ive ever used is the rodless caulking gun from Ox
Yes, rodless are the way to go if you can't fit the length, having the tube retract as you pump out the material is trickier when doing jobs like siding where you use material fast.
I'm a house painter. I will definitely buy this and give a shot. I work by myself and try to fit most of my sundries and hand tools in the same tool box. This would help. Also, most caulking leaks until the air is pushed out. If this problem is elevated, that would be awesome!
I always contribute the air bubble to maybe Freight sitting on a hot truck for too long but I know you mean it sure is nice to hear that pop and then to know that you won't have a mess everywhere
@@chrissmith9798 It has to be from temp changes during transport. But, almost every tube I get has air in it no matter what time of year it is. There is also no brand that's better than the other. Turns out that the caulking is more of a problem than the gun!
Seth …. Painter to painter you no longer will ever have this problem again . The way I look at everything is that their is ALWAYS A SOLUTION . If they can send a man to the moon , you can get the caulk to stop leaking as you caulk ….. so I now tell you the solution …… before you load the caulking into the gun and before you cut the tip , get a utility knife and cut 3 small gashes in the bottom plastic that will be pushing forward as you squeeze the trigger . I usually get the blade and push it in about half way = 1 gash …… do it 2 more times and then load up your gun …… no more dripping once you release the trigger . As long as you are using a gun that does not keep pushing the rod forward when you release the trigger . No caulk will not start shooting out the back when you squeeze the trigger . This is VERY MUCH worth a try! As a Ford Dealership Technician, this tool would be EXCELLENT for the tubes of Motorcraft sealer we use for sealing engines, transfer cases, transmissions etc. There are time we have to work in tight confines, so this would be great! I had to reseal the roof of my RV this fall. 7 tubes worth!!!!! After the 1st tube I went out and bought a Ryobi power caulk gun for $40 bucks. (tool only - $50 now). Bulky, but wow was it nice! Saved tons of time.
I got one of these about a year ago, and it has made my life substantially better at work. This thing is incredible for tight spaces and awkward spots. Absolutely genius design.
This is amazing, I can get rid of all my other bulky ones that are annoying to store. Can't wait until there's a metal one that will be able to use it for the thicker caulking
i got one of these about a month ago, and, seeing as i'm a hobbyist and not a pro, i've only had one occasion to use it, but, man, do i like it. i think it works well and it's a cool deisgn. changing the center of gravity makes it much easier to get a good angle.
Pretty good for tight spots, only real drawback is that since the tube is feeding backwards, every time you release the trigger to reapply pressure it slightly jumps backwards.

Made something like this in 1989 in high-school. We used the metal rod cut off with a ring and a carpet knife welded just wasn't sealed for safety but still nice to see a similar idea finally to market.
From some one who install hvac units and prefers to silicon the coil bases, im ordering one right now. My God how this would have helped me so many times.
I'd like it more if it were made of metal, especially where the handle meets the body. But I also have questions about the longevity of the friction surface of the clutch such as how many tube grabs will it do before it stops grabbing and begins slipping as well as the longevity of the blade used to cut the tube. Maybe everything is designed to just "time out" all at once. It's a pretty smart design I just have questions about the materials and lifespan of the tool. Maybe that's why it's called the Siligun - Anything other than silicone and you'll have a bad time.
I'm using this to build small glass fishtanks (less than 200 litres) and terrariums for two years, and it still works. Of course, I use waterculture-friendly silicones, which doesn't purge chemicals being submerged in semi-polymerised condition. Btw, for caulk and urethane glues i use full-tube gun.

It would take literal years to dull, steel vs cheap soft PET plastic. Then it would probably work dull anyway, just pressing it hard enough is going to bifurcate the plastic.
@@crabmansteve6844 says someone who has never regularly worked with box cutter blades, you are forgetting the second half of that equation, the the grip tape will remain grippy enough to be able to hold while the dull blade "cuts".
I purchased one ,I'm a painter of many years I gotta say it works great but.......I would keep your hands clean keep the unit clean for longevity of the product.i would strictly only use it in interior jobs because of how clean and precise you need to be.perfect for in-between closet shelving and small spaces ,dripless , works very nice ,for big jobs ide use a regular caulking gun so you don't have to go slow worrying about staying clean .it works works well great concept .
The most underrated metric of a caulking gun is the weight. I bought a composite one and it has made life so much better. Standard is 1.9 lbs (860g without tube), composite is 0.76 lbs (355g) and this No Rod version is 0.65 lbs (295g). If mine every breaks, this seems like the next one to get.
That's actually very handy for tight spaces, especially toilets and bathrooms, many a time I could have done with one of these in a toilet or bathroom.
Interesting idea, though where you cut the nozzle at an angle this design does not allow the tube to be rotated to get the angle sloping the other way, like when caulking along a left hand side and then the right hand side. The trigger would be in the way if you needed the cut angle to be in a different direction.
@@jamesplotkin4674 no. The nozzle tube can't "usually" be rotated. Who told you that? Or what type of caulk are you using that the nozzle can be rotated?
My guess is if it is one of those spots where you have to spin the tube to get the angle just right your only option would be to remove the tube, pull out the old clunky metal caulker, get caulk at that exact angle, remove it and put it back in the Siligun. Which goes to show when you snip the tip (sorry Mel Brooks) you definitely want to make certain the angle is correct or you'll twist your wrist all out of whack trying to get a perfect bead.
I'd say almost any application that requires a 10 ounces of caulk from a tube is likely going to be an application that also gives you a range of clearance to use a normal rod-based caulk gun. For small jobs, such as caulking around a toilet (which one should really only do on the front and sides, by the way), just a small hand-squeeze tube of caulk (looks like a toothpaste tube) is both cheaper and easier to use than both a 10 ounce caulk tube and any gun.
@@acmeopinionfactory8018 Be that as it may, however, if you have a small job and you only need a small amount of caulk, you're still saving money versus buying a 10 ounce tube and tossing out what you don't use. Plus the squeeze tube is still just more agile and easier to manipulate in tight spaces, so it's a lot easier to do a neater caulking application. Can't always look at a material's unit cost, you gotta factor in the form factor and quantity of material you're going to use.
@@aaron74 I agree completely with your reasoning, just wanted to say that the larger tube is the long deal if you can use it. It does tend to last longer than people think it does, especially if you can easily remove the plug of used product in the nozzle when you next need it.

I bought one of these a few months ago. It made it through two tubes of contact adhesive before it broke. It would probably be fine for caulk. But, anything requiring more pressure is too much for it to handle.
Most of the things you'd feed into a caulking gun also come in smaller tubes you can squeeze out with your hand. There not more then 8 or so inches long, and you can bend them to fit into smaller spaces. I have a Ryobi battery powered caulking gun. It's big, and kind of clunky, but not having to constantly crank the handle is a blessing. I can also control the amount that comes out by adjusting the pressure with a dial. I don't think Ryobi has cornered the market on this type of thing. I'd use one no matter who made it. There just nice. I work maintenance for apartments.
There's a reason caulking guns haven't been changed much since they were invented. They work. If u need to get in a small space get the small squeeze tube.
Exactly, not to mention the added stress on your hand from not only the gun pushing the caulk down the tube but also the resistance at it on top of that of the blade having to slice through the plastic. That would just add more tension and create more stress injuries from having to squeeze a little harder all the time.

I have one of these at work, I work as a carpenter. The thing work good for a couple of tubes but the last two I used I had to help pull the tube through and pump at the same time.

@@noelv1976 It's an invention to solve a problem that has already been fixed and introduces new ones. Buy squeeze tubes for tight areas and use a regular dripless for everything else, curious lack of belt clip/hook as well as that is a crucial feature for many.
@@thoughtlesskills genuine question, literally used to buy silicon upto 10 boxes of cartridges at a time, so have done a fair bit of siliconing. What guns do you consider dripless/ recommend, as in my experience, they all bleed.... It may be we just don't see decent gear in New Zealand
I used to do lots of caulking before... I used to make my own bent plastic nozzles to different angles by heating them with a heat gun .....takes a bit to get them right but once you get the hang of it you can make a couple of dozens in not time and put them in yr tool box.... You reckon the people who make the silicon would come up with that......
I see a lot of praise for this design, but I've squeezed out a lot of caulk over the years, and I can't think of s single time where the rod extending out was ever an issue. Seems to me, this just solves a problem that never existed.
Lol i have! My caulk has been in a few tight spots over the yrs! Not lately though! I always stayed away from squeezing caulk however not that theres anything wrong with that!
Pro painters won’t like this thing cause if they needed a shorter gun, there would’ve been one 50yrs ago. Caulk guns are for bulk dispensing of caulk on the job, going fast and gettin er done. Home users that want to get a better deal on a tube of caulk/silicon and don’t like the length of a traditional caulking gun are why they have smaller tubes of household sealants-squeeze type. I’m not a pro painter, but use caulk and sealer all the time at work, and I need the ability to rotate and position the tip constantly. Plus cutting a fresh tube of caulk open makes possible for a big mess which I try to minimize in a finish job.
Looks awesome! what I usually do is buy the hand squeezable caulk for the hard to reach places.. so its like toothpaste and you just squeeze it with your hand. works OK.

My first thought its plastic. I'm glad you mentioned this in the video. If they make a metal version then I'm on board though the cutting blade might dull.
One of the best places is doing the inside of the sink, just not enough room to get up under there with a full size guns and if you do auto or boat stuff you are always sealing places that are so small.
I have this gun It’s ok Yea the space saving is cool but compared to a regular gun It’s slow or clunky when pulling the trigger to squeeze out material
I'm a contractor I bought one. Great tool! However. Do not use with paper tunes. It will clog up grip tape. But to keep the grip tape working in peak performance I use a nylon tooth brush style brush to clean every few uses. Had it for months now used regularly so far so good. Great for tight spots. However I do tend to go back to the "old style " when I can. And keep this more for tight spot where the rod would get in the way. If they could figure out away to replace the grip ring. This would be a wonderful tool. But that said. Its not very expensive and sometimes worth it for those tight jobs.
I put a small plastic tube on the end of a tube of caulk using a regular caulk gun and was able to squirt caulk at a 180 degree angle. I needed to fill holes in a 4x4 fence post that had carpenter bee holes and there was a 1 inch gap between the back of the 4x4 and the actual fence.
Wait! What? Pump the brakes a bit pal! You put one caulk on another caulk then you did what? A 180 on some pee holes on into the gap! Thats fukking genius man !
Ok, been a tradesman for years and used a ton of caulk guns. Most tools I see like this on UA-cam are a stupid gimmick but this just looks to innovative to pass up. I've gotta get one now and see for myself.
As a mechanical engineer, this product has two flaws, One is the plastic grip ring wears out pretty quick and starts slipping which stops the pumping action, Two is the blade gets dull and stops cutting into the tube which again stops the pumping action of caulk, combine both and you get a dud, I advice against buying this tool as it is. I would have bought this tool myself if they have the grip ring made out of stainless steel and they have a way to replace the cutting blades. If they address these two issues in the future even with an increased price the tool will be worth buying.
Can't say I agree with these two flaws. As stated above the steel cutter is going to last a very long time vs the thin tube material. In addition, plastic is not always a bad thing. In fact, I recently replaced a metal caulk gun with the yellow plastic dripless brand gun being sold at Sherwin Williams - this is the best caulk gun I've ever used. Much lighter and easier to control. The flaw with this cutting style gun is the fact that the tube is always moving backward as you squeeze which will make it more difficult to run a steady bead. In addition, as you run out of material it may be impossible to get into some tight places because the handle is so close to the tip.

This is absolutely brilliant. All they need do now, is make it out of a more durable material. This will come later, once this new tool takes hold in the market. Then they can keep this model as a disposable option for less money... where it is guaranteed to work, only as long as it lasts... could be a week, could be a year, who knows... Then people have to make the choice and assess the overall cost per year. People will still purchase both...
Home Depot had a good price. Lowes was $6 more. Easier to get a military discount at Lowes when shopping online, so I wrote them to ask why theirs was more expensive.
Just thinking about every tube I've tried sand wound up blowing the product out the back and turning the gun into a complete mess... This looks like it would be rendered useless the first time the grip tape gets compromised or and a rear tube blow out. Too bad it would be nice
They told me,, Always start with the white caulk and work your way up to the black caulk. I am still amazed that I get paid to fill the crack with my caulk all day. What a country! 🙃
One big problem! I only use one - half of the tube. By slicing the tub the unused product that I want to save for the next job will quickly dry out and be wasted.
Pretty good idea. I for one have used a caulking gun for a long time. I can see one other possible con to the device. Sealant is prone tp sometimes squeeze by the plunger. When this happens on this. It will have to be thoroughly cleaned or it is not going to work when the material drys in the locking mechanism. I wont be spending money on this. An alternative for tight areas is a squeeze tube of DAP latex sealant.
Looks cool. I usually cut the nozzle at an angle for best bead for the application. I find that it is necessary to turn the tube to apply the caulking at various angles to the grip - left-hand, right-hand, overhead, etc. This device is fixed in rotation. Perhaps that is good enough for some applications.
Only 6 times more expensive then a standard caulking gun (on Amazon), despite being made of plastic and having less material in total. Cool concept, but feels like it has several major points of failure, like how many tubes can the cutter cut before it can't cut no more, how well does the grip tape grip after repeated use, granular tape just seams like a recipe for future slippage, especially as the cutter wears down, the great thing about the standard caulk gun is that its so simple it lasts forever, never have I seen a broken caulk gun unless the plunger rusted off the rod.
You are missing the point of how this thing works! The slit or cut in the tube is behind the plug so no air gets to the product! If you have half a tube left you can just trim that part of the tube off and toss it ! the plug stays in the other half keeping it sealed.
You might of answered this in the video if so I apologize for missing it but do they sell a 28oz gun or just 1 for the little tubes? That's a really cool idea tho.
It seems the problem would be how you save remaining caulk. Once the tube is split the contents would dry out. Ordinarily you could just plug the hole. It looks ok if you plan to use the whole cartridge.
wow and they solved the problem where it keeps dripping. it sucks that they made it from plastic, though i could see someone having multiple for each product they may own and that might get pricey if the gun is steel
Looks like a great idea, but it doesn't work for long. The grip tape started slipping after about an hour. The plastic design started to buckle with a cold tube of caulk, before the "grip" just gave up.

Best would be a backpack mounted tool with a hose you hold and put anywhere you want but then you gotta clean the hose and the longer the hose the more waste, but there's gotta be a way to do it maybe with compressed air.
Once again, you've showed me something that is really cool and that I wasn't aware of. A unique design for sure. I think they just need to improve it a bit and make it stronger / more powerful so it can be used for all tube products and with no worry of breaking it.
Its a nice tool and I agree, if they made an all steel version with replaceable parts it would be very cool. Maybe in the future.

This isnt a bad caulking gun and definitely has its perks. Another good one i can recommend because i think its the best gun ive ever used is the rodless caulking gun from Ox
Yes, rodless are the way to go if you can't fit the length, having the tube retract as you pump out the material is trickier when doing jobs like siding where you use material fast.

I'm a house painter. I will definitely buy this and give a shot. I work by myself and try to fit most of my sundries and hand tools in the same tool box. This would help. Also, most caulking leaks until the air is pushed out. If this problem is elevated, that would be awesome!

@@chrissmith9798 It has to be from temp changes during transport. But, almost every tube I get has air in it no matter what time of year it is. There is also no brand that's better than the other. Turns out that the caulking is more of a problem than the gun!
Seth …. Painter to painter you no longer will ever have this problem again . The way I look at everything is that their is ALWAYS A SOLUTION . If they can send a man to the moon , you can get the caulk to stop leaking as you caulk ….. so I now tell you the solution …… before you load the caulking into the gun and before you cut the tip , get a utility knife and cut 3 small gashes in the bottom plastic that will be pushing forward as you squeeze the trigger . I usually get the blade and push it in about half way = 1 gash …… do it 2 more times and then load up your gun …… no more dripping once you release the trigger . As long as you are using a gun that does not keep pushing the rod forward when you release the trigger . No caulk will not start shooting out the back when you squeeze the trigger . As a Ford Dealership Technician, this tool would be EXCELLENT for the tubes of Motorcraft sealer we use for sealing engines, transfer cases, transmissions etc. There are time we have to work in tight confines, so this would be great!

I had to reseal the roof of my RV this fall. 7 tubes worth!!!!! After the 1st tube I went out and bought a Ryobi power caulk gun for $40 bucks. (tool only - $50 now). Bulky, but wow was it nice! Saved tons of time.

i got one of these about a month ago, and, seeing as i'm a hobbyist and not a pro, i've only had one occasion to use it, but, man, do i like it. i think it works well and it's a cool deisgn. changing the center of gravity makes it much easier to get a good angle.
Pretty good for tight spots, only real drawback is that since the tube is feeding backwards, every time you release the trigger to reapply pressure it slightly jumps backwards.

Amazing Video as usual. I'm from NH and was in Utah at lake Powell and my friend's son who is half my age. We got talking about UA-cam and we realized that we both watch your awesome videos. so from as close as NH to as far as Utah, you're the man.
Made something like this in 1989 in high-school. We used the metal rod cut off with a ring and a carpet knife welded just wasn't sealed for safety but still nice to see a similar idea finally to market.
From some one who install hvac units and prefers to silicon the coil bases, im ordering one right now. My God how this would have helped me so many times.
I'd like it more if it were made of metal, especially where the handle meets the body.
But I also have questions about the longevity of the friction surface of the clutch such as how many tube grabs will it do before it stops grabbing and begins slipping as well as the longevity of the blade used to cut the tube. Maybe everything is designed to just "time out" all at once. It's a pretty smart design I just have questions about the materials and lifespan of the tool.
Maybe that's why it's called the Siligun - Anything other than silicone and you'll have a bad time.

I'm using this to build small glass fishtanks (less than 200 litres) and terrariums for two years, and it still works. Of course, I use waterculture-friendly silicones, which doesn't purge chemicals being submerged in semi-polymerised condition. Btw, for caulk and urethane glues i use full-tube gun.

Impressive tool. It looks perfect for a job I have next week where I need to seal some gaps behind a toilet.
I’m curious if the internal blade is replaceable. Eventually, the blade will dull and it will need to be replaced.
It would take literal years to dull, steel vs cheap soft PET plastic. Then it would probably work dull anyway, just pressing it hard enough is going to bifurcate the plastic.

@@crabmansteve6844 says someone who has never regularly worked with box cutter blades, you are forgetting the second half of that equation, the the grip tape will remain grippy enough to be able to hold while the dull blade "cuts".
I purchased one ,I'm a painter of many years I gotta say it works great but.......I would keep your hands clean keep the unit clean for longevity of the product.i would strictly only use it in interior jobs because of how clean and precise you need to be.perfect for in-between closet shelving and small spaces ,dripless , works very nice ,for big jobs ide use a regular caulking gun so you don't have to go slow worrying about staying clean .it works works well great concept .
The most underrated metric of a caulking gun is the weight. I bought a composite one and it has made life so much better. Standard is 1.9 lbs (860g without tube), composite is 0.76 lbs (355g) and this No Rod version is 0.65 lbs (295g). If mine every breaks, this seems like the next one to get.
That's actually very handy for tight spaces, especially toilets and bathrooms, many a time I could have done with one of these in a toilet or bathroom.

Interesting idea, though where you cut the nozzle at an angle this design does not allow the tube to be rotated to get the angle sloping the other way, like when caulking along a left hand side and then the right hand side. The trigger would be in the way if you needed the cut angle to be in a different direction.
Usually, the nozzle tube can be rotated.
I would cut it perpendicular to the trigger! Not sure it would be much of a problem really!

One slight problem is you can’t spin the tube inside the gun
My guess is if it is one of those spots where you have to spin the tube to get the angle just right your only option would be to remove the tube, pull out the old clunky metal caulker, get caulk at that exact angle, remove it and put it back in the Siligun.
Which goes to show when you snip the tip (sorry Mel Brooks) you definitely want to make certain the angle is correct or you'll twist your wrist all out of whack trying to get a perfect bead.
With the small size, it can probably be manually rotated in your hand, maybe holding it upside down, sometimes.
Cut the excess off, pull the tube out, turn it to where you need it and put back in.
Turn... or re-trim the nozzle ? 🙄

This would be amazing for building aquariums, I have always used the smaller toothpaste style tubes instead because of this.

I'd say almost any application that requires a 10 ounces of caulk from a tube is likely going to be an application that also gives you a range of clearance to use a normal rod-based caulk gun. For small jobs, such as caulking around a toilet (which one should really only do on the front and sides, by the way), just a small hand-squeeze tube of caulk (looks like a toothpaste tube) is both cheaper and easier to use than both a 10 ounce caulk tube and any gun.
Aaron they may be cheaper per tube, but they're much more expensive by the ounce. MUCH more.
@@acmeopinionfactory8018 Be that as it may, however, if you have a small job and you only need a small amount of caulk, you're still saving money versus buying a 10 ounce tube and tossing out what you don't use. Plus the squeeze tube is still just more agile and easier to manipulate in tight spaces, so it's a lot easier to do a neater caulking application. Can't always look at a material's unit cost, you gotta factor in the form factor and quantity of material you're going to use.
@@aaron74 I agree completely with your reasoning, just wanted to say that the larger tube is the long deal if you can use it. It does tend to last longer than people think it does, especially if you can easily remove the plug of used product in the nozzle when you next need it.
@@acmeopinionfactory8018 Absolutely. No question the cost per unit volume is less expensive. Besides the factor of purchasing in bulk, there is also an economy of scale in the mass production of the material in that gun tube container too.

I bought one of these a few months ago. It made it through two tubes of contact adhesive before it broke. It would probably be fine for caulk. But, anything requiring more pressure is too much for it to handle.
I'm sure they'll upgrade it. Good to know tho ty.
Most of the things you'd feed into a caulking gun also come in smaller tubes you can squeeze out with your hand. There not more then 8 or so inches long, and you can bend them to fit into smaller spaces. I have a Ryobi battery powered caulking gun. It's big, and kind of clunky, but not having to constantly crank the handle is a blessing. I can also control the amount that comes out by adjusting the pressure with a dial. I don't think Ryobi has cornered the market on this type of thing. I'd use one no matter who made it. There just nice. I work maintenance for apartments.

There's a reason caulking guns haven't been changed much since they were invented. They work. If u need to get in a small space get the small squeeze tube.
Exactly, not to mention the added stress on your hand from not only the gun pushing the caulk down the tube but also the resistance at it on top of that of the blade having to slice through the plastic. That would just add more tension and create more stress injuries from having to squeeze a little harder all the time.
There are still pepole that use Nokia some things can't be changed

You don't have to with this one, when you let go of the trigger pressure is automatic released. Nothing like the standard caulking guns

I have one of these at work, I work as a carpenter. The thing work good for a couple of tubes but the last two I used I had to help pull the tube through and pump at the same time.

@@noelv1976 It's an invention to solve a problem that has already been fixed and introduces new ones. Buy squeeze tubes for tight areas and use a regular dripless for everything else, curious lack of belt clip/hook as well as that is a crucial feature for many.
@@thoughtlesskills genuine question, literally used to buy silicon upto 10 boxes of cartridges at a time, so have done a fair bit of siliconing. What guns do you consider dripless/ recommend, as in my experience, they all bleed....

I used to do lots of caulking before...
I used to make my own bent plastic nozzles to different angles by heating them with a heat gun .....takes a bit to get them right but once you get the hang of it you can make a couple of dozens in not time and put them in yr tool box....
You reckon the people who make the silicon would come up with that......
I see a lot of praise for this design, but I've squeezed out a lot of caulk over the years, and I can't think of s single time where the rod extending out was ever an issue. Seems to me, this just solves a problem that never existed.
Lol i have! My caulk has been in a few tight spots over the yrs! Not lately though! I always stayed away from squeezing caulk however not that theres anything wrong with that!
Pro painters won’t like this thing cause if they needed a shorter gun, there would’ve been one 50yrs ago. Caulk guns are for bulk dispensing of caulk on the job, going fast and gettin er done.
Home users that want to get a better deal on a tube of caulk/silicon and don’t like the length of a traditional caulking gun are why they have smaller tubes of household sealants-squeeze type.
I’m not a pro painter, but use caulk and sealer all the time at work, and I need the ability to rotate and position the tip constantly. Plus cutting a fresh tube of caulk open makes possible for a big mess which I try to minimize in a finish job.
Do you know if you can leave a partially finished tube in it without drying out?
Yes you can leave it, just tape over the tip when done. Wont last forever but will keep for a hwile

I have never seen one of these caulking guns so I am by no means an expert. Im just speaking from general experience. At any rate thats a major problem!
Thanks for clarifying about adhesives/ paper-tubed products. Not a bad idea but I'll just keep putting up with a cumbersome caulk gun that can be used for everything

I honestly can’t see where this would ever actually be useful, but it’s pretty dang cool.
One of the best places is doing the inside of the sink, just not enough room to get up under there with a full size guns and if you do auto or boat stuff you are always sealing places that are so small.

I'm a contractor I bought one. Great tool! However. Do not use with paper tunes. It will clog up grip tape. But to keep the grip tape working in peak performance I use a nylon tooth brush style brush to clean every few uses. Had it for months now used regularly so far so good. Great for tight spots. However I do tend to go back to the "old style " when I can. And keep this more for tight spot where the rod would get in the way. If they could figure out away to replace the grip ring. This would be a wonderful tool. But that said. Its not very expensive and sometimes worth it for those tight jobs.
I put a small plastic tube on the end of a tube of caulk using a regular caulk gun and was able to squirt caulk at a 180 degree angle. I needed to fill holes in a 4x4 fence post that had carpenter bee holes and there was a 1 inch gap between the back of the 4x4 and the actual fence.
Wait! What? Pump the brakes a bit pal! You put one caulk on another caulk then you did what? A 180 on some pee holes on into the gap! Thats fukking genius man !
I thought about this idea 20 years ago when I was doing HVAC rough-ins and trim-outs.

Ok, been a tradesman for years and used a ton of caulk guns. Most tools I see like this on UA-cam are a stupid gimmick but this just looks to innovative to pass up. I've gotta get one now and see for myself.
As a mechanical engineer, this product has two flaws, One is the plastic grip ring wears out pretty quick and starts slipping which stops the pumping action, Two is the blade gets dull and stops cutting into the tube which again stops the pumping action of caulk, combine both and you get a dud, I advice against buying this tool as it is. I would have bought this tool myself if they have the grip ring made out of stainless steel and they have a way to replace the cutting blades. If they address these two issues in the future even with an increased price the tool will be worth buying.
Can't say I agree with these two flaws. As stated above the steel cutter is going to last a very long time vs the thin tube material. In addition, plastic is not always a bad thing. In fact, I recently replaced a metal caulk gun with the yellow plastic dripless brand gun being sold at Sherwin Williams - this is the best caulk gun I've ever used. Much lighter and easier to control.
The flaw with this cutting style gun is the fact that the tube is always moving backward as you squeeze which will make it more difficult to run a steady bead. In addition, as you run out of material it may be impossible to get into some tight places because the handle is so close to the tip.

All they need do now, is make it out of a more durable material.
This will come later, once this new tool takes hold in the market.
Then they can keep this model as a disposable option for less money... where it is guaranteed to work, only as long as it lasts... could be a week, could be a year, who knows...
Then people have to make the choice and assess the overall cost per year.
People will still purchase both...
This may not solve all problems but it opens the door for new Ideas !!! Good Times !!!

This looks like it would be rendered useless the first time the grip tape gets compromised or and a rear tube blow out.

My caulk is an important tool, and any time I can get my caulk into tight spaces I consider that a win, even if it makes my caulk look shorter.
They told me,, Always start with the white caulk and work your way up to the black caulk.
I am still amazed that I get paid to fill the crack with my caulk all day. What a country! 🙃
One big problem! I only use one - half of the tube. By slicing the tub the unused product that I want to save for the next job will quickly dry out and be wasted.
No worries. it doesn't slice into the unused material, just underneath the plug so you can remove a tube and reuse.

Sealant is prone tp sometimes squeeze by the plunger.
When this happens on this.
It will have to be thoroughly cleaned or it is not going to work when the material drys in the locking mechanism.
I wont be spending money on this.
An alternative for tight areas is a squeeze tube of DAP latex sealant.

Looks cool. I usually cut the nozzle at an angle for best bead for the application. I find that it is necessary to turn the tube to apply the caulking at various angles to the grip - left-hand, right-hand, overhead, etc. This device is fixed in rotation. Perhaps that is good enough for some applications.

Only 6 times more expensive then a standard caulking gun (on Amazon), despite being made of plastic and having less material in total. Cool concept, but feels like it has several major points of failure, like how many tubes can the cutter cut before it can't cut no more, how well does the grip tape grip after repeated use, granular tape just seams like a recipe for future slippage, especially as the cutter wears down, the great thing about the standard caulk gun is that its so simple it lasts forever, never have I seen a broken caulk gun unless the plunger rusted off the rod.
Major issue, each canister becomes a one time use as the razor cuts the tube and allows air to harden contents. No reuse.

You are missing the point of how this thing works! The slit or cut in the tube is behind the plug so no air gets to the product! If you have half a tube left you can just trim that part of the tube off and toss it ! the plug stays in the other half keeping it sealed.

It seems the problem would be how you save remaining caulk. Once the tube is split the contents would dry out. Ordinarily you could just plug the hole. It looks ok if you plan to use the whole cartridge.
wow and they solved the problem where it keeps dripping. it sucks that they made it from plastic, though i could see someone having multiple for each product they may own and that might get pricey if the gun is steel
Looks like a great idea, but it doesn't work for long. The grip tape started slipping after about an hour. The plastic design started to buckle with a cold tube of caulk, before the "grip" just gave up.
