Honestly this is one of things I appreciate about Boyle in that he’s a foodie that actually puts so much effort when it comes to food and the intricacies about eating
0:53 this reference can actually work either way because of Boyle's character. Essentially, Antonio Salieri was a contemporary songwriter of Mozart, and the two were actually very good friends, even critiquing each other's works (Salieri would even go on to teach Mozarts children in music after the latter's death). However, rumors started circulating after Mozart's death that Salieri was insanely jealous of his talent, and ended up killing Mozart. Years later, an elderly Salieri would have chronic episodes where he would try to kill himself while "confessing" that he was the one who killed Mozart (in actuality, Mozart died of natural causes, and Salieri was obviously suffering from some form of dementia due to old age).
The excellent movie Amadeus, starring F Murray Abraham, is about this subject. A must watch movie for anyone interested in classical music and its history.
Salieri also previously told an author of a book that he liked the man immensely, and that it was his former student that started the rumour in order to ruin Salieri’s reputation. Salieri didn’t say anything at the time because he still cared enough about the student that he wouldn’t sabotage the mans career by proving that he started the rumour and that it wasn’t true. This excerpt however didn’t make it into the print of the book. The only reason we know of this interaction in the interview is due to the fact that the author’s original manuscripts were uncovered hundreds of years later detailing it.
Salieri was a composer who according to the movie ‘Amadeus’ hated Mozart for his popularity even though Mozart was younger, however it is said that Salieri and Mozart actually had a loose friendship and they largely composed different types of music. TLDR; Salieri is composer who supposedly hated Mozart for his musical prowess
Antonio Salieri envies Mozart whom he believes to be a great musician. Having come to the conclusion that Mozart receives divine assistance in his compositions, Salieri turns against God. That is the description of the 1984 movie ‘Amadeus’ but it is largely fiction because Salieri kills Mozart in it but it is believed Mozart died of natural causes
Ironically, most of the historical evidence we have suggests it was more Mozart who had issues with Salieri. We have a number of letters from Mozart and his father wherein they talk about a "Cabal" of Court insiders that they claim were led by Salieri who were preventing Mozart from obtaining opportunities in Vienna. Salieri's opinions on Mozart (along with whether he truly was interfering with his position at court instead of just both being composers naturally competing for work) are relatively unknown. Most of this appears to be restricted to their early interactions, and once Mozart established himself more thoroughly, the two appear to have gotten along quite well, they coordinated on a few pieces, Salieri supported some of Mozart's work when he was appointed to higher positions in court, and according to Mozart, Salieri was the most enthusiastic spectator in the audience when he brought him to attend the premiere of the Magic Flute. Their supposed murderous rivalry that inspired 'Amadeus' actually appears to only have been started decades after either of them lived as part of an ongoing feud between German and Italian composers as a way to dig at the Italian Salieri as an envious poisoner jealous of the more renowned Mozart, despite the fact that Salieri's music style was actually much more German than his native Italian (Given that he spent most of his life in Vienna)

You know how movie critics tend to dislike movies most people enjoy? That’s because they have seen so many they can predict how most movies will go. They can recognize the cliches, the tropes, etc. from miles away. So they appreciate those movies that are very obtuse, confusing and complex. Same thing happens to foodies. It’s a curse, you love something so much, you become such an expert and then the basic stuff just doesn’t satisfy you so you go looking for newer wilder experiences.

There is no shame in losing the crown to a greater talent, only in becoming lesser in quality as a result.
