  • Although I do have power in this summer kitchen it is very much set up for off grid living if the time should come that it’s needed. With an Andes wood coal fired cook stove, oil lighting, hand water pump. All work completed by myself Jerry Tyson before I built my UA-cam channel.

Loved seeing the kitchen! My dad grew up on a farm in Ohio. He was the youngest of 10 children, born in 1929. His family was poor. He said he remembered when the new stove his dad bought had a reservoir for water. They had come up in the world for sure!

Many families at the turn of the century (1900s) had a wood stove and a "summer" kitchen because of heat. Sometimes it was a porch and I for one enjoyed my grandparents home because of the wood stove and coal fired furnace. You've done a very great rendering of the summer kitchen. BTW I watched the pizza oven video and loved it. Thanks

I am so impressed. You have a very cozy set up. I appreciate fire baked pizza. I appreciate all your hard work. I own a couple of vintage magazines and they are very interesting reading to learn how people lived back in the day.

Hi Jerry- and folks looked at me sideways when I started assembling my 1930s kitchen, in a 2016 constructed house! We designed the back wall to install the1930 kitchen wood stove. I'm restoring a 1926 Hoosier baking cabinet and a Hoosier farm table. I teach rural New Hampshire lifestyles form 1920 to 1940, when I have the time. We are a working farm- grass fed beef/commercial hay & logging. My grandmother Hazel taught me the Old New Hampshire Ways and I enjoy using functional vintage pieces.
Your summer kitchen is a wonderful step back in time. So rewarding. I will be following your channel to watch you turn back the clock. I always preferred my grandmother's day to modern times. We lit the oil lamp and it was a slice of Heaven to be in her kitchen! ~ Diane

I admire your home and all the work and creativity and the saving of so much history as well as making a home that reflects your journey and to be grateful of the things that God has provided through hard work and faith. That has helped you find a life more fulfilling filled with stronger relationships. I like to believe it has helped to heal riffs in your life as well bring the best out of you. God can work miracles in so many ways if we allow him to thank you again for sharing your home and life

Wow so many Treasures in that room! Great stove! I was a second owner of a home built in the 1800s that still did not have indoor plumbing. Had a hand pump like that in the kitchen at the dry sink.

I walked through an older home the other day that had a well in the house. They must have built that part of the house around the well. Your indoor water pump layout is very cool.

As a sweep yourself, do you have your coal stoves connected to 316 stainless pipe to prevent corrosion? Great video.
