The Captain is proof that lessons and jamming with more experienced players makes you a better player. He has made some serious strides in the past year or so.
I still wish he'd sit down with the guys at least 10, 20, or 30 minutes a day and just work on basic ascending/descending patterns though. Alternate picking all the way through. Not to shred, but just to have more technical skills to express himself more.
"You have, uh, changed guitars to the Christopher Columbus signature model" this edit part was utter hilarity. 10/10 for cap throwing dad jokes over Pete's head
Allen Collins from Lynyrd Skynyrd only used the Explorer and had the Tremolo tailpiece! Watch Free Bird live from Oakland Coliseum from 1977 on UA-cam it's awesome! Still gives me chills and makes me run around the room jumping and playing air guitar like I was 12 still😛

I couldn't watch past 3:30. Nothing pains me more than watching non-Flying V players fidget around reviewing a guitar they can't hold comfortably. I play only Gibson Vs because they lock into my lap and I don't even need a strap sitting. When standing (with a proper length strap), there is no useless wood in the way of fret access. They are so natural and comfortable...this is like watching someone try to put a glove on upside-down then telling me if it is a good glove.
@@siwiaz5494 His first guitar with them was a 70s strat, and not to long after he got a Gibson Explorer. Around the Animal Magnetism tour he got his second Explorer, which he customized with the black stripes to make his signature look (In addition to his Blackie strat with the first style floyd rose + routed humbucker). Around 1986-87 he got with the Gibson custom shop to build an Explorer 90% of the body (Explorer E90), with a floyd rose and 24 fret neck. More recently both Rudi and he get their guitars from Boris Dommenget, with Rudi making some absurd and cool V models (mostly following car brands/styles) and Jabs mostly following the E90 style to make his own signature Dommenget EX90 along with a signature custom strat (Dommenget MasterCaster) with a floyd rose HSH setup and beefier body/headstock.
V's are the most comfortable to sit and play. Resting the v crotch on your thigh, once you're used to it, it's the best. Sick of people who don't play V's saying it's akward. Once you're used to it, you'll agree.
Pete goes into a massive riff/solo jam to remind Lee what he is aiming for... but Lee is definitely playing the best guitar he has ever played Keep it up! Old dogs do learn new tricks.
My main guitar for the past [nearly] 20 years has been an Epiphone '67 Flying V. I find they're very comfortable to play sitting down if you know how to hold them... the caveat being if you're trying to sit on the floor.
Their is a great Gibson Flying V guitar player from England still ripping it up with great music and writing skills ! His name is Andy Powell of the fantastic Wishbone Ash !!
When I started watching Anderson’s years ago, they were a group of guys I literally, strange as it seems, sort of grew to know.it’s like a UA-cam family. 17:24 :D Seriously this is my favorite Anderton's video recently. Superb jamming, channeling the Captain's inner rock demon, Pete stellar as usual, Lee's stank face during the dirty bits. Solid Gold.
Explorers are underrated, sure the shape isn’t to everyone’s taste but ergonomically they are much better than you would expect and they certainly shouldn’t be thought of as just a metal guitar.
I normally have these vid's playing in the background and listen to them without watching. I can usually spot if it's Lee or Pete soloing. Today I got it wrong - Nice one, Kudos!
Can we leave the pickguard off the black explorer or is it covering something up? My preference would be no pickguard and it looks like the electronics are not under the plastic.
Is there really a distinctive Explorer sound? What separates it from the Firebird and the Les Paul .. or even the V tonally? These are my questions as I start watching this video. Aside from the silhouettes, what really defines these beasts?
You must feel great about your playing compared to the minor pentatonic days lee Still very functional scale but knowing how scales combine with chord progressions has revolutionised your playing You're proper great compared to a year ago Good on you and Pete man ...you are a glorious player Love your videos with you both Thank you
Here's a real all the explorer player Lita Ford from the runaways she definitely had some amazing sounds on that guitar got to love Lita Ford listening
Cap, you're right about the switch on the Explorer. I have a Legator Ninja (basically an Explorer) with a Floyd Rose with the pup switch with the knobs and it is a PAIN to get to on the fly!
The reason they sound different despite having exact same hardware is the massive chunk of wood behind the bridge on the explorer. It gives it a thicker sound.
THANK YOU for leaving this comment 4 years ago. Watching old Andertons vids and couldn’t place the tune for some reason. Would have driven me crazy, thank you😂
Do they still wire the V B-2 as the original 1 vol, 1 tone, 3 way switch with the cap soldered from the tone pot to vol pot for "vintage" tone?? Or is it now wired "modern", with cap soldered back to the tone pot??
I thought the same thing about my explorer case when I got my explorer, it's a huge case!! Lol love what you guys do, keep up the good work, love from middle America 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
HOLY CRAP the BurstBucker 2 with dirt on Pete's guitar sounds unreal! I love it! There's just something about the tones you can get from a V, man. SO good. I gotta get me one of these!
Gibson used to do a Lzzy Hale Signature Explorer in white a few years ago.. They also recently released a Lzzy Hale Signature in black probably two years ago. Now Epiphone has the white signature model for her. Both of them are sexy instruments, with the gold accents and hardware. Been wanting a black one since they were released.
I recently purchased the Gibson Explorer in Antique Natural with BurstBuckers 2 and 3. But.....i love the power and clarity of the mighty Gibson Dirty Fingers pickups. My Explorer is awesome. But i wish it had come with Dirty Fingers stock. Oh well. Those Dirty Fingers sound awesome in that black Explorer!

Ryan Flinn with Justin guitar. They filmed them.
You guys rocked in this one. Famous Explorer player: Allen Collins - Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free Bird lead played on that guitar. 👍
Also Matthias Jabs of Scorpions
Jeff Carlisi of 38 Special played an Explorer clone hand made by Georgia luthier-sold maple body with inlaid rosewood pickguard-must way a ton!
James hetfield had a gibson explorer back around the Lighting and Puppets era along with his gibson V
Indeed and Allen's Explorer was an original layer 50s too. So all the badassery
I came here specifically to say that. Run the strap over the top and bang out ‘Call me the Breeze’ 😎
Whta if I want them all? Pete should play more with 'buckers... he sounds amazing. Lee seems happier than ever. Hail to the Captain!
honestly one of the best intro jams ever!!!
He also used it on Knockin On Heaven's Door.

Dad jokes?
Can confirm. I'm a dad and I would have made that kind of joke.
Lee those lessons are really paying off. Pete ,sounding phenomenal as always
Allen Collins played an Explorer and that’s about all that matters. 🤘🏻
"Is there a more manly look?"
"Yes, on your knees!"
Awesome!
It's how you can tell they are both married.
Well, that and the dad jokes... 😏

He got the Explorer from Clapton too. He used Firebirds before
That moment when the final solo is kicking in and the crowd is going bonkers is total, beautiful magic.
He used fire birds and a strat as well. But by far my favorite was the explorer with maestro bridge.
14:02 Lee accidentally writes a Greta Van Fleet song

Somewhere around 24:00 you can witness Lee very breafly turn into Rob.
Gary Moore played an Explorer before he went more blues

That awkwardness when you don't know how to hold V guitar when sitting down. :D
Captain's chops have noticeably improved over the last couple of months. Awesome stuff!
It's the added confidence in what he's playing that really shows, the notes sound better when they're played with intent.
Matthias Jabs from Scorpions played an Explorer and Rudolf Schenker played a V
Matthias played a Hamer blitz
oprah_did_9/11 his first guitar with the Scorpions was a 1976 Gibson Explorer, later he got guitars build from a german guitar builder

Once you finish the series can you choose your favorite of each model and make a video compiting against each other?
"In the morning, don't say you luv me...cuz I'll only kick you out of the door..."
Rory, you need a tumbleweed graphic to roll across the screen in the whistling wind after one of the Captain's 'jokes'.
Slash used an Explorer for the recording of Locomotive
And knockin on heavens door

I think the V between your legs is the best position to play guitar. Pretty similar to some classical players.
Wow the new design of the flying V....! It looks exactly like a flying V.?.!.?.!
Idk id rather have the Christopher Columbus signature model
Cosmo Heath lol
Their is a great Gibson Flying V
guitar player from England still ripping it up
with great music and writing skills !
His name is Andy Powell of the fantastic Wishbone Ash !!
I never liked the look of V's....until I saw Michael Schenker play one.
Claudio Sanchez from Coheed & Cambria plays an explorer.
Rick Derringer played Explorer in the late 70's
I love playing Vs while sitting. Makes me sit straight and not slouch so much for some reason.
Greaaat! Love to hear pete on some humbuckers🖤
Must admit I love the Natural wood looking 'V' :)
The Captain's wailing...great progress shown... kudos.

The Vs are missing the rubber? strip that was meant to help sat down playing. I'm sure someone will do an after-market add on though.
Once again, Captain Lee Anderton finds his hidden inner rocker. Somewhere, Rob Chappers smiles at seeing Lee tune his low E string down to D!😎
I really dig Danish Pete's playing. I could listen to Pete and Lee jam all day long.
Both guitarists from the band Airborne play explores also but they maybe not so famous but a killer Australian rock band sort of like AC/DC
Clapton played one live in the 70s. Also Lynard Skynard.
Explorers are a bit unwieldy at first because of how large the body is, but the way they balance when played standing up feels extremely nice.
The Capt.'s playing was really good in this video dang
Nice playing lads. Something about the Explorer in natural has me.
Yes completely agree. I want one

Thanks for reviewing these, I think they are ace guitars and often get ignored in favour of the Les Paul and SG.
Some (more or less) famous Explorer users: Rudolf Schenker, Rick Medlocke, Pete Willis, Joel O´Keefe, Rock 'n' Rolf.

Albert King was a lefty playing a right-handed V, it's really hard to emulate his tone as either a righty or a std. lefty.
Do a blind fold challenge with the new Les Paul's with some of the old 2019/18 models and a custom shop or two thrown in.
I suspect that even when blindfolded, most people would be able to tell whether they're playing a V, an Explorer or a Paul. Somehow.
