They may be icky to us, but birds love them! I always pick them off into a pie plate and set it out where it’s easily seen from above, or under a tree where birds hang out. Gone within minutes!
I actually found my first one a couple of weeks ago. I immediately ordered a black light. I knew to get a black light, so now, I go out and check my tomato plants. It’s also a good way to find scorpions. I hate both.
When I was a kid my dad grew tomatoes. We kids had to pick any horn worms off the plants when we saw them. We would squish them to kill them. So gross.

I've rarely had issues with tomato worms. Healthy soil will deter all the insects that destroy your crops
