Yeah, it definitely sounds like a lot of chorus. The only thing was that when I was testing out sounds to mimic the guitar sound I was surprised at how little I had to turn the chorus knob. I just needed a little reverb as well. I'm pinning this so people can see.
Brandon Monte You're very close. The true stereo chorus effect is a mix of 1 clean signal and 1 signal through a vibrato channel. Of course, you can simulate the effect with a digital pedal, but the stereo effect won't feel as authentic as a Roland Jazz Chorus amp with 2 speakers playing the vibrato and clean signals simultaneously, in parallel.
As soon as he said "the guitar usually has no effects", I went down to look for the comment pointing out the obvious. They use modulation effects on the guitar all the time. I think they have a certain sound they go for and can probably achieve it though different kinds of modulation - tremolo, chorus, flanger, or rotary.
I just love the calmness and simplicity of Men I Trust. It sounds modern and nostalgic all at the same time, yet it feels slow and fast at the same time. It's incredibly soft and smooth and it used REAL instruments and people. It just adds a higher connection to the music.
There are definitely always effects on the guitar, and their live shows literally revolve around that Jessie’s ability to just solo and shred for hours
men I trust really have the best kinds of themes when it comes to musicmaking in my opinion. My top choice songs would be girl, numb, a cycle, I hope to be around, lifelong song, Pierre, ring of past, break for lovers; to start off with. I don't know about what goes on in the rest of the music industry, but I think I know what I found with this band. I want to know more about their production process honestly because they mix their instrumentals so well and some of their lyrics writing is so provocative or deeply written in diction which makes that song make more sense all together with what they composed. I'm not saying I know exactly what their inspiration was behind the lyrics writing with some of their songs, but still, I'd say it stands out profoundly. I'm just rooting for them.
Yea, there's something about these guys. I'm more into boomer 60s-70s rock, 80s-90s alternative stuff, and death metal and black metal, but these guys and Mac demarco appeal to me in a way I didn't expect from pop music.
hey axel ironvalley. i'm sub#720 i guess. a preemptive thank you for taking the time to create this channel. i can't wait to check out what else is on here. random youtube walk brought me here. well that and "a tree among the shrubs" by men i trust. which i thought was an anagram of something they heard at a bar.
This is an awesome analysis video that I feel as if very valuable to a lot of people. Thank you for making this man. You earned a sub and im excited to see you do this with more bands! Keep it up! You have something very valuable here
Oh well, this is 2 weeks fresh ! Well well, thanks duder, thanks for giving this video a humble feel. Opposed to putting your beautifull face in the front, making yourself likable and stuff, you went straight to the point :) to heck with the internet ego
This is incredible! Thank you for this, I just feel like I don't quite get how to get the sound going for vocals. I'm used to using reverb at times to make my voice feel a little dreamier but how do you make it sound like them? If you can help or give advice Of course!
Ok, I must say that this video is unique. You did a great job on the final song, but I can barely hear the vocals :(( I hope you keep doing things out there, peace brother
Thank you for doing this video and appreciate all the terrific information about how this amazing band creates music. One small item of feedback: Your voiceover is SO much louder than the sound of the band! Listening on headphones I would like to hear the band at a normal level but then have your voice BLARING with commentary.
I can't find the way to reach the same sound of the bass. I don't know if I should buy something else to achieve it. Can someone help? I have a Squier Classic Vibe '70s Precision Bass and a fender rumble 200 bass amplifier.
You're take on the song was all good except for the drums, they were obnoxious. They were too loud and were too frequently repeating/simple, and didn't give the song space to breathe - so the drums just jarred against the feel of all the other instruments + vocals which you did a good job on
cool summary bro, could you please tell me which video or song it is at 04:00? I need people to name the guitar model for me, looks like something I need. much love
Well, your analysis was a lot better than the song you put together, which actually sounds to me more like a parody... But hey, nice try anyway; I too love Men I Trust! ;)
not sure what kind of guitar he’s playing but i’m sure you could get near enough with a tele or jazz master using the neck pickup. I believe he’s just got a clean tone and using a volume pedal :)
the guitar is a fender maverick. The tone, im pretty sure that he is using a pedal but i'm not able to find which one. However, i found this one "ehx attack-decay" to be very very close from what we are looking for
na man, they use chorus effect on the guitar 100%. Strymon Ola dbucket to be precise. I agree that there may be a lot but it's notably missing from your demo.
Evething it´s ok, but her voice is something that... I dont know exactly how to say... She can touch your soul with her voice and this is something that not everybody can do. (Maybe you can try to wishper something smooth and deep next time... Let´s see what happen)
brooo quantise your drums! i think a lot of producers get caught up with having a "human feel" to their drum tracks and find a not great solution in just playing a midi kit without any quantisation. instead quantise or draw in the drum track and then turn off any grid locking in your midi track and make slight adjustments to their placement and velocity and it will sound wayyyyy better and wayyyyy more pro while keeping that "human feel"! also turn up the vocals!!! and cut out more of their low end and the reverb!!! balance out that mix!!
@@Axel_Ironvalley Balance - hi-hats are much, much too loud and they have ear-piercing frequencies. While we're at it, the hi-hats need to be quantized, now they're noticeably out of tempo. Also, it needs a clearer separation of instruments using EQ and panning. But the hi-hats is the biggest problem it has and it's easiest to solve.
The guitar does actually in fact almost always have effects on it, especially a pretty heavy chorus effect!
Yeah, it definitely sounds like a lot of chorus. The only thing was that when I was testing out sounds to mimic the guitar sound I was surprised at how little I had to turn the chorus knob. I just needed a little reverb as well. I'm pinning this so people can see.
A lot of the chorus sound they create live comes from having two guitars playing the same thing creating the natural chorus effect
I'm hearing an analog chorus, and analog tremolo, reverb, and tasteful delays. The amps are clean but with soft edges. Sounds vintage or lofi somehow.
As soon as he said "the guitar usually has no effects", I went down to look for the comment pointing out the obvious. They use modulation effects on the guitar all the time. Not bad, but one of the reasons i like Men I Trust is because of the lead singer's dreamy vocals and that is hard for anyone to sound like her.
Thanks!
She reminds me of the AI from Portal 2. The cake song
Too Wispy and breathy. A lot of their stuff would be better as instrumentals.
that is your opinion, the majority love her vocal style and voice@@License2Bust
gotta love the car in the background with the lights on & you can see the subtle movement of people in the front seats... nice touch.
I just love the calmness and simplicity of Men I Trust. It sounds modern and nostalgic all at the same time, yet it feels slow and fast at the same time. It's incredibly soft and smooth and it used REAL instruments and people. It just adds a higher connection to the music.
Their sound is so incredibly lush and full.
True!
I've been listening to these guys for a long time. Got to hang out with them after a show back in 2018...super cool.
you're lucky
Awesome!

Jesse is no joke, just got back from a concet, hot damn!
All the good wishes to them and to you. I hope they find commercial success for all their enthusiastic efforts.
This band is so cool! They are like from another dimension and time! Great analysis!
Thats a brilliant analysis and a beautiful application of the technique. Men I Trust are really bringing simple yet soulful melodies
Thank you, they really are!
What’s amazing is they can recreate and exceed this dream harmonies when they play live!
It’s midnight here and the layers part scared the hell out of me 😂. Their snare roll is smooth af and I love Emma
haha, and yes the snare roll is smooth :)

Agreed man and I love that you named Ring of Past! It’s such a good track I feel like they just don’t miss.
Thanks for share your top list. Great songs!
thank you for your dedication to the craft and spending months in the Canadian rural winterscape
This is so good, the song at the end!
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it :)
Men I trust is like a simple comfort food recipe that just works so timelessly
Excellent breakdown and study
Neo-shoegaze with a hint of grunge and, above all, lofi indie. The aforementioned are why I like them. Maple Wave.
such a good summarization!
Your editing at the end was epic love it!

The song you made is definitely a banger and is mac demarco-esque. I'm certain people would love it if it was him.

Your key drumming expression needs to become a meme. Reminds me of Vinheteiro who is a YOutube God.

@@JubbLaRacing They needed EQ and to be fed into a nice room reverb to sound realistic. And to be dialed down 0.5 dB in gain.

what kind of keyboard is that? 👀
It seems like he is using a Waldorf Blofeld keyboard, though it seems to be a midi keyboard so the sound is not because of the type of keyboard.

No guitar effects? Are we listening to the same guitar? Dude has en entire pedalboard of effects lol
I wonder if an "ehx attack-decay" or a tremolo pedal is used for the 2:31 solo, to reduce the notes' attack and give them that smoothness
possibly!
what song is that
