Been through a series of bikes over the years, all Yamaha, and following a move to live in Spain on my retirement, I sold my Virago and bought a Yamaha 900cc Diversion at the ripe old age of 60, with a plan to do some continental touring on it (which I did over the next 12 years). Returning to the UK saw the Divvy not being used as much and on reaching 80 years of age in March 2022, I decided I needed something with a lower seat height and I didn't need as much power. I also wanted as close to as many of the features of my Divvy as possible - shaft drive, rear monoshock, air cooled engine etc....enter my Yamaha 650 V Star. This bike has fulfilled every need now - and hopefully will continue to do so for a good few more years. I'll let you know when I get to 90!

One thing with these bikes is it seems to struggle on the Highway but these bikes love the higher rpm’s and it doesn’t hurt the bike in any way. Had mine for almost 4 years now and it runs fine on the interstate. Definitely feels odd getting on a faster bike and going back to the 650 but it still does the job. Very dependable and easy to work on

I picked up a used Vstar 650 a month ago in a vain attempt to regain my wasted youth... sold my last bike 30 years ago ('81 CB750F). Your review is bang on... I bought the 650 so I wouldn't be tempted to do the stupid stuff I managed to survive! 🤪

I'm about to look at a 5 star right now, I had a '77 CB750. This looks like what I want... I hope it's "bottom-heavy", my knees aren't what they used to be lol

My old knees are pooched as well.
The low seat height helps a lot for my short Italian legs!
The hardest part was remembering where the foot pegs are... about a foot ahead of where they were on the 750.

Picked up one of these as my first bike last summer. Had a lot of fun with it and I love how comfortable it is. You're absolutely right about 70-75mph on the highway. I usually keep it around 65. Compared to the bikes at the msf course, its pretty big which took some getting used to. I might upgrade next season.

Actually one of the best. Reliable as f*, easy to maintain (looking at you damn oil filter on 1100), looking amazing and crazy friendly.
    Must have for novice.

Just picked me up a ‘99 Classic with 7900 miles for $1250. All it was missing was the rear fender and seats. New paint, chrome work, and exhaust. My first bike so far love it and have put original fenders lights and seats back on it.

Thanks for the video. the Vstar 1300's are bulet proof, not plaged with problems of the the 900-1100 stars. or almost all the vtwin yammer hammers.

Big thanks 💯🙏 Thinking of burying a bike, this will be my first bike. Just something to ride back and forth to work. Or my be around town or just chill out at the lake. Or something to take tho old lady out on sometimes.

Good video, nice bike…mine does 93mph GPS with police shield and bags, and can squeeze 50 mpg at 65 mph, wonderful size and can do interstates no problem, it is not too heavy but 500lbs is heavy enough, especially if you are unfortunate to have to drop it. It’s not a beginners bike, that would be a 50-125cc 😅

Extremely accurate review of the 649cc Yahama vStar Classic. I've owned one since 2002, my first motorcycle. I'm 5'4" tall so this bike is great since seat height is super slow. Excellent first bike for man or woman. It is very comfortable for long rides. Had is going on highway to daytona going 85 seems to be top speed but it is screaming. So I would say top speed on highway is 65-70mph. The stock pipes are too quite and rob the bike of power. I have Bub Big Willies Straights on mine and in this video you have the Cobra pipes which is another great option. I've since purchased a 2005 Honda Shadow Sabre 1100 which is a great upgrade bike if you have one of these and need more power "out of the gate". I still love running the "vstar" around town. Thank you for the great review (i'm also in Tampa and love to ride).... I see you have a silver Honda 919. I have the 2004 Honda 919 in Uranium Matt Green ( super fast !!!)

I used to own one of these bikes and I have always felt that there is a speed that each bike likes the best. After riding the v star for a while I decided that 67 mph is the speed that the motor feels most comfortable at on the highway once you get the motor all warmed up. Of course, when I was going 67 my speedo read about 73 since it was optimistic about 6 mph. The truth however is that the bike will go 70 and even more all day long and it won't hurt the engine at all. I think the stroke isn't that long so higher rpms aren't really hurting anything. People just imagine that they are hurting the motors when really they are not. On my present Honda VTX 1300 it's just a 5 speed too and it sounds stressed out at 75 but I rode it for 100,000 miles going 75 or 80 constantly. It won't hurt anything but your gas milage.

I learned something new today because I have never cleaned or took the carb out but when I get my funds I will send you some funds before I think I can learn more from you but I can't figure out where the gas and vacuum goes to the fuel pump gas valve and vacuum I've been trying to get my scooter back on the road

I somewhat I agree with seating situation something just doesn't feel quite right though I prefer to sit low.
Also agree with your assessment of motor work's hard to maintain,60+ MPH. Though I disagree that the issue is the 5 speed transmission as my 83 fxrt 1340 ran 110 mph like a hot knife through butter. As h
Also agree with looking cool and making a lot of exhaust noise.
With the exhaust pipes you have, can you change the oil filter without removing front pipe and brake pedal?
Mine is a 2005 purchase miles were 9,400+-

The big pipes and screaming eagal seem to rob them of top end mines pretty much stock and its not struggling to sit on the hwy at all at 75 with room to to give it more

Can you please do a similar review for a Yamaha V-Star 950? I have a 2014 V-Star 950 and occasionally use it on the Interstate for a less than 10-mile ride. But I'd like to see what you think the 950 would feel like in a medium distance highway ride (20 to 100 miles) and long distance (more than 100 miles).

Unfortunately I can only review bikes that I work on personally that I purchase. I would have to reach out to the motorcycle community and see if somebody would lend me their bike for the day which might be a bit difficult to accomplish that task but I will see what I can do

How do you change the odometer light bulb on yamaha vstar 650 2007 custom

    • @Umilligecko
      @Umilligecko 11 місяців тому

You undo the 3 screws on the surround to lift the Speedo then you need a 15mm spanner to loosen off the Speedo cable gets a little fiddly but once it's off it gives you room to unplug the Speedo and the bulb is behind the rubber grommet with wires poking out, same for each of the lights for indicators engine light ECT
