How To Remove Land Rover Defender L663 Glove Box + Dash Rail missing USB Retrofit

- In this video we show how to remove the glovebox on a Land Rover Defender L663 - the reason we are doing this is to replace the missing USB in the passenger dash rail on our new Defender 90
JLR announced today that they're cutting back vehicle production until the end of March due to the ongoing semi conductor shortage. Unfortunately it's a serious problem that stretches further than an annoying lack of USB accessories so it's an excellent suggestion to try finding a used part before buying new. 👍
Yes i just read this - thanks for sharing. As a society we throw way too much away !
Simon, quietly mentioning becoming a fellow of the IMI as removing a screw just demonstrates how humble he is and exactly why the IMI have honoured him in this way. Congratulations Simon and all that work with you on these wonderful videos.
Congratulations Simon getting your award from I.M.I 👍👍👍👍👍👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks it was kind of cool to be recognised even though my style is a little different ... I hope I have educated and inspired some people along the way !
Hey - loving the steady flow of how-to’s. What’s the likelihood of a solution on easy rear seat base removal (similar to the 110) as a Christmas special for us 90 owners. 😅
Evening ! As you can see poor old 90 is getting pulled apart....
Quite impressed with that Land Rover build quality to be fair, ha there been any scary failures on these yet I haven’t heard of any
I think a couple of issues with the engines - I have a manufacturing error on my new 90 which is disappointing - especially as the dealers are not supporting me ( again ! ) but all will be revealed !
I'd quite like to see one of those USB A or C modules for an early model Freelander 2
Simon - great as always - my D90 came with out the same USB C and 5/12v in rear console and front dash. Just wondering if your lovely new D90 came without locking fuel cap. Love these videos- thank yoy
Yes new new 90 has no sunglass holder / no locking petrol cap ... but i am looking at a retrofit
@@L663 thanks Simon . It does make me laugh when JLR sell a premium car and it doesn’t come with a basic feature that’s been on cars the last 30 years or so. I really love the UA-cam vids you do on the “Stig” and the D90 - look forward to catching up on them regardless if I intend to mod my 90 or not. Thank you
Hes one of the best .
Seems odd the usb sockets are omitted due to chip shortage but, you can buy the omitted part from stock at Land Rover.
The only way that works for them is if the customers have the dealer fit them at ridiculous labour rate plus vat of course.
Its odd - the fact they did not fit the cigarette lighter in place of the missing USB is also strange...
Can you do something like this on the L550 Discovery Sport please
Just wondering if you’re any closer to the cause of that battery drain issue a few videos ago?
The cause is the way the Defender is set up - it wakes the PIVI pro up when you open any door - it should only do it when you open the drivers door ! And when you do open a door it waits for too long before shutting down. Its poor power management
@@simonjefferson So, is this a design fault, or an actual fault that requires repair…I don’t think the vehicle should have been released to the market in that condition?
I agree with you but Land Rover will say it’s not a problem…
I looked on eBay for usb and couldn’t find any. What search terms should I use.
Hi Andy
Most of them have 19010 in the engineering part number
So search "rover 19010" or "USB 19010" this threw a few up when i looked just now
Now waiting for screen upgrade video of ur old defender
Hi - its coming... going to try and swap the screen from the new one to the old one !
Hello Simon
Good video but don't suppose you have noticed as well in your 110 Defender they have deleted the middle sun visor ? Is there a part that can be ordered for this from Landrover we had one in our 2020 110 but when we got the new one a few months ago this was missing as well !!
The USB ports seem to be getting less and less in vehicles as ours did come with 2 in the back instead of 4 and 1 in the dash board but I have noticed now that they are deleting them all ??
Yes our new 90 had none in the back and none in the dash !
Hi Chris - I have looked up the part numbers and ordered the parts for a video.
It looks like the parts will cost around £100 + Vat from the dealers...there are 2 version of the brackets - I ordered both to work it out. As I have the 110 it should be easy to work it out !
Boom Boom!! 💥
Доброго здоров'я привіт з Одеси Україна.
6.5mm bolts, that will be 1/4 inch then. Possibly Land Rover are taking the retro theme a little too far.
Lovely job ⭐️⭐️⭐️👍👍👍
What you need are some laparoscopic instruments to get to those spaces where fat fingers cannot reach 👍
I don't know the reason why they didn't fit them, could be the shortages and then they decided it saves money not to fit them. When I made car interiors every foot of cable we could save was more profit for the company, maybe they think the same
Its an odd one as they still fitted the cable and connectors.... and extra foam and sticky tape....
@@L663 I know when I made lorries the wiring looms always had extra cables, "different people wanted different fittings in the lorries" it was cheaper to do it this way than make one wiring loom per lorry. If you make on an assembly line it's the cheapest way as to do one loom and one loom takes to long time. My thoughts
You must be able to pull these cars about blind folded now Simon . You must know your way around these cars better than Land Rover can , .
Evening Mike - well after another manufacturing problem ( yes the 90 has one ! ) and Land Rover Dealer does not seem to want to help I may have to strip the 90's interior completely !
@@L663 The money they are asking for these cars It cant be right . Ive toyed with the idea of buying one at long last ??? Ive not seen any moans & groans about them of late ,So i can only assume they are at last sorted ,
Add in a flexible uretha scope or broncoscope and you'll see things in your Defender you can only dream about.😂 👍
This parts/chip shortage needs investigating I think. Such small, simple parts must be easy to make and if they are STILL difficult then serious questions as to why need to be answered. Production may have stopped for a few weeks but that was two years ago….so WHY is it just accepted that the shortage is all but irreparable? Answers on an empty takeaway box!😳😳😳🫢🫢🫢🫢🤔🤔🤔
