DIY Vanity Using Dollar Tree & Walmart Goods

- Hey, all! Thanks for watching! In this video, I will be using supplies I picked up at The Dollar Tree & Walmart for $1 or less to create this lovely DIY Vanity that will also double as a makeup storage. I decided to keep my crates light pink because I loved the color, but feel free to paint yours whatever color you’d like. *TIP: if your crates are a dark color and you want to paint them a light color, spray paint them first with 1 coat of metallic silver and it will save on the coats you would need to do with your lighter color.
Here are the supplies you will need to create this yourself:
*10 stackable Sterilite Mini Crates from Walmart $0.97/each (Size: 9"L x 7-7/8"W x 6-1/8"H)
*3 boards of foam core from Dollar Tree
*A few stackable clamps from Dollar Tree (I ended up using books instead to help weigh down the glue)
*e6000 glue (I already had this on hand, but it is available at both Dollar Tree & Walmart)
*Contact paper (I had mine from Lowes for 2 years now) but you can find some really pretty ones at Dollar Tree
*Measuring tape or ruler (can find both at The Dollar Tree)
* Your choice of spray paint (you can get this at walmart, the dollar store I think or Michael's or Hobby Lobby with a 40% off coupon)
*Box cutter or exacto knife (I already had this on hand at home)
*Random books to help adhere the glue
* Some sort of cutting board or friendly surface for cutting the foam

Perfect vanity for small places like an apartment and also using zip ties would be another option if you don’t have glue gun 👍😉🙂

Gorilla glue is my favorite glue. I was able to make a table out of laptop boxes. I used gorilla glue to affix the legs to my tables. The glue hardens and stabilized the legs. I have used e6000 but it does not harden unlike gorilla glue. If you want to make a table or anything similar to this item and want stability use gorilla glue.

Kelly Barlow has a diy to make a cutting mat about 4x4. Also, you can get get a small framing square. Love the vanity.

Little tip on the tape measure. Engraved on the back side is the length of the tape measure itself so you don't have to bend the tape. You can just stretch it out and then add the measurement of the tape measure itself to what is shown on the tape. It's so much easier to show then explain lol

I tend to use a squeegee when applying contact paper. That may be something that works for you too.

You got it! I will probably work on this over Christmas break. Teaching full time at a new school and grad school at night and weekends has me exhausted with little free time. It’s coming though, I promise!
You could probably just measure a shelving unit from Home depot and drill it to the two sides. Add some Plexyglass so it wont get messy. That would probably only add like $10-15
Oh! Are you saying it would help secure the top more? Would we also need to do the same to the bottom? We’ve currently got it rigged to the wall using plate wall mounts and wire. It works but still leans forward a bit

About how tall was this stand? Are these the really small crates? I seen the interlock ones @ Walmart but they was small.
They are smaller, like a 5x7 pictureframe size. I’d say it’s a little under 3ft tall. Perfect height for me to push my chair up to and do my makeup.

What country do you live in? They have these on amazon. You could also shop online to Walmart or Target (they may have them) wondering if Dollar Tree’s website has them? Not sure how expensive shipping would be.

Way too much glue
Well it’s holding hundreds of dollars of makeup and brushes so it needs to be stable. I’ve even got it screwed into the wall now.

I am currently 7 months pregnant with our 6th and was looking for a fun project to do with our eldest whom is 13yrs old to have in my bedroom to put diapers, wipes, burp cloths (baby essentials) as well as a place to store my purse, I saw your project and thought it was a great idea for what I had in mind.
