  • My first week in RimWorld was not what I expected, but in the best way. This game is so much fun and hilarious. Even though I'm a total noob and there is so much to learn, it is fun to take it one week at a time.

For a bit of context on why your caravan was lost: since lumi go torn up by the yorkies she got downed from her blood loss and then as soon as that happened you lost the caravan no doubt she is dead, so make sure to send pairs just incase

My first week was spent trying to get my three pawns to build a base in the side of a mountain, but mining takes a lot longer than I thought so I ended up having all of my workstations in one filthy cramped room and they all went mad

This is hilarious! I love watching new people figure out this game lol. When you were attacked by the rabbit, I legit thought "At least it wasn't Yorkshire Terriers". Lo and behold, Randy heard.
    Classic first boomalope encounter.
    For reference:
When caravaning, you always want at least two people. Caravans are lost when you would "loose control" of all the pawns. So if everyone is incapacitated from injuries, or having a mental break, you lose the caravan. So Lumi didn't die right then, but probably went unconscious due to blood loss and pain. If you had another colonist, you would still be able to access the caravan and patch her up.
I see you figured out drafting, I was giggling watching you be chased by a rabbit and draft then undraft the pawn. Had to let the rabbit get a few more bites in! In case you want to change it, if you go to the "Assign" tab, you can change colonists actions when encountering danger. The icon that looks like a foot with speed lines means run away, you can also change it to ignore or fight. If it's not in the "Assign" tab (I think it is but I use a bunch of mods), you can do so on the character's info tab when you click on them. Same icon.

Haha, thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I have to say, so did I. The random chaos in this game gets me every time. I am excited to make more videos.
I see. I did/do not understand caravaning at all, so thank you. I appreciate it. In case things went south, I didn't want to lose one of my couple, because I was hoping they'd make babies (didn't realise I needed a DLC back then, which I now have!).
Well, I do have a soft spot for bun-buns! Haha. And oh my gosh, that tip is so valuable. THANK YOU.

A few tips the game doesn't directly tell you. (in no particular order.)
I would recommend getting a stonecutting table ASAP so you can make bricks. Wood houses burn down as soon as an unlucky lightning strike hits them.
The game gives you enemies to fight based on how valuable the sum of everything you own is; In other words, only keep what you need.
You can make a freezer to prevent food spoiling by making a small room with 1 or 2 coolers set to -5 degrees. You will need to manually add a stockpile zone to the room.
Thrumbos are practically untamable, and unkillable unless you make it to the point where you have assault rifles.
All dlc except anomaly, and arguably royalty will fundamentally change how you play the game for the better. Ideology allows for a bunch of story building and bonuses, and biotech adds children and inheritable genetics. The other two are still good, they just only apply to some playthroughs.
And finally, don't ever try living in the desert or sea ice biomes. They are made to make you want to break every nearby electronic device that you own.

Yep, that looks like a pretty typical first run. :D
One thing that catches most new players (including me on my first few tries!): ranged weapons like bows and guns are completely useless at melee range. It is vitally important to keep your ranged units away from anyone with a melee weapon, because they become basically unarmed once the target is next to them. So if you don't have a melee person to run interference, try to keep moving your shooters back if the enemy start to gets close.

    • @missfunerella

Always fun watching people trying to figure out Rimworld, just as an FYI; Biotech is the DLC that adds babies and such along with a lot of other things but it can be quite overwhelming for new players to dive into. Anomaly seems similar but I have not played it myself and the Royalty and Ideology are great, Ideology being the better of the two IMO but Royalty is easier to dive into as it is less complicated. Great video!

Yeah RW has a steep learning curve - if anything this went better than most people's first colonies. And its good to see a new player take it in stride - its a great game but those first few can be disheartening when theres so much to learn.
