Remember it well. I still have 2 complete working games. Classic. There is an Android app called Droid Tower that does a great job of recreating the original experience.
Good game. I've done that scenario and Ashstrider doesn't always destroy buildings at such a rapid pace. There is an element of randomness that can lead to bad luck. Sometimes you need to move/attack just to get destructive foes into another kingdom (especially when the owner of the home kingdom has more than one corruption). Other players may choose to minimize the risk of loss by using a potion (if they have one) or attacking the adversary (even if you quickly retreat, the attack will result in the adversary moving to another kingdom). You also can make some preparations if needed as you control the timing of when the adversary is released on the board. Side note: After your initial count of advantages, it doesn't matter if you lose the source of the advantages. You can also choose to add in optional advantages during the encounter (including from items gained during the encounter). Thanks for sharing the video.
I was wary of batteries-required gimmickry in this game when I learned of it (Lincoln expertly hit my other concerns), but the positive consensus around this title put it on my wish-list, and the GameNight! spot-light pushed it to a “Must-Have.” Hail, Brutal Warlord Nikki, and her sweet Gustav Klimt reference! Thanks, Players 😊
Extra massive thank you for an extra massive episode of an epic game, the wonderful entertainment and editing efforts are greatly appreciated, as always!
Super interesting game. Top 2 rules of adventure games: 1) always use the first round to build your gear 2) beware of the first major boss (the sister) take care of them quick.
I just ordered the game myself... its $190which is steep, but there are multiple play styles, like coop and against each other too, maybe another as well. Looks like great fun.
I am pretty sure there are more than 4 ashkul's treasures in the treasure deck otherwise that companion quest would be impossibly hard. It's just that you need to get 4 to complete the quest.
With the reveal of the final boss on Lincoln’s turn meant there were 3 turns before Nicky’s next turn and so that becomes impossible for her to remove the corruption before game ends. It was impossible to win once boss was placed in her territory or if in Lincoln’s
Could they have used the move baddie potion to Daves zone after one corruption on Nikki - instead of just moving it to a favourable battle area for Lincoln?
I don’t think they had a move baddie - only a move hero - it was the only way they could have saved the game - but those cards had been used previously- I don’t think there are enough ways in the game to get rid of corruption- it seems that another player should be able to do that for someone ? I think there is a flaw.
I owned the original Dark Tower game in the 80's--I got it for Christmas. It was a perfect game and I could kick myself for losing it after I went to college. This updated game seems overly complicated and has little of the charm and fun of the original.
I believe there was an error with the Lamp of Hope at 2:02:54… The Lamp of Hope lets her cleanse *anywhere* instead of having to be on the same spot as the building. Also, the card says “WHEN you cleanse”, not “after”.
Another one at 2:15:26 as well… Spymaster’s banner action says “Place your Hero on any space in your *current* kingdom”, so he couldn’t technically just jump back to his home kingdom…
Got our copy last month and have really enjoyed the 2 player experience. Great fun watching you play with 4! The alliance expansion makes it even better!
You were opening the wrong doors. It's tricky to see, but for example Dave's should have opened the middle one on his first time, and Nicky the top one.
@@geneinkc Yes, it's very easy to do until you notice the red glowing in the middle of the door, and don't focus on the bright red lights showing the side of the tower that activated.
GameNight is my go-to for a good time during my break on Thursdays. Thanks so much for the consistency, you guys are awesome. :) Can't wait for the SDJs' Specials. Much love.
Just looked it up, it costs 125$ but very cool with that tower. Sometimes you opened up the wrong gates - you missed, that the gates themselves were blinking inbetween the side-blinking columns. Maybe some more skulls would have come out earlier for you that way. I wonder if the app will always be there in the future - slight concern imo with games that require an app
I rarely watch a video of this length but I had to due to the inclusion of Grant. This was a lot of fun to watch. Hate you made it that far and fell short.
Good thing to remember is to get back to the main screen before dropping skulls in the tower or else I believe the app doesn't track it. If you drop a skull in the tower and there's no sound, you're still in the same turn. I've messed that up a few times.
@@jameslarochelle8501 I found this out by accident lmao. I went to lift the tower briefly and my finger went in the slot lmao. It advanced my turn. Lesson learned.
yep, remember the original, actually found it about 10 years ago in the back of my fathers basement. Got it running for almost 1 full game before it died for good. I missed backing this so will look for second hand or next go around if there is one.
I think it's probably a far better method to place cubes on items/advantages you have used when you use them. It prevents the weirdness like when Nikki decided to have used the sword and then discarded it.
Thanks for the playthrough. I really liked Grant as an addition to your group :) Regarding the game, i passed on the kickstarter, but somehow regret it now. It's a cool game and while it hit you hard in the end, it felt quite generous in giving you gear and power before that. My main worry would be the tower itself, not the app. It has quite a few moving parts and lights and as soon as some motor or something stops working you dont have a game anymore. Still, i hope it will be available in retail in my country at some time.
Every time you battle the adversary... and retreat... it moves to a new kingdom. Could have gotten it out of her kingdom that way. (next time... knowing is half the battle :))
Looks like a great game, thanks for the sharing. Really appreciate the effort that went into creating this playthrough, but would be pleased to see a little more risk-taking as opposed to drawn out discussions, and the guy in purple actually adhering to commas and full- stops when reading the tablet; it really helps those in the game and those watching feel a bit more immersed! With those improvements a playthrough like this would be far more streamlined and attention-grabbing.
Next game please. New everything except you guys. You guys are awesome. I could see myself enjoying your games of monopoly or risk. or Life or any retro game. You guys are fun to watch.
I'm impressed with the tower, although was there a way to avoid losing? It seemed like once the Big Bad was spawned, there was no way to avoid Nikki getting her 3rd corruption (short of randomly having the right potion) and/or turn order letting her heal a corruption.
I'd like an answer to this. it seems in this instance (and maybe every instance if the game purposefully spawns the boss in the zone prior to the player activating it) that players have to save move foe potions.
I really loved watching ya'll play this game!!!!! I also really loved the irony that at one point, Dave said that the corruption deck was not a problem...well spoiler alert lol....
Love the show, but the trips across the 180 degree line are a bit confusing from time to time. I'm not sure if that can be fixed with camera tricks though.
Oh yeah!! Another game that has caught my attention AND it's a lengthy one?!?! This will definitely be put into my Board Game Playlist AND help me decide if I want to add it to my collection or not. You guys are always awesome!!!
It can definitely be lengthy. But, it really depends on how quickly your team plays too. If you are able to complete the main objective and have enough equipment to fight the big bad then you can win alot sooner. But, I’ve found that I usually win or lose by month 4 or 5.
Sorry, but you guys messed up how the broken seals work. If you'll notice, the leds indicate which side, the seal that is breaking, will glow. If you pull up the seal and the glyph isn't glowing, you pulled the wrong one. I've made this mistake myself.
Love this game. Excellent co-op experience. I'm only 1 month in, but the strategy confuses me. "We need to get these 4 specific treasures" "Let's buy everything except those".....
Their strategy didn't make a lot of sense to me, but I do really wish I could play it. 200 for the base game, even with such cool bits and bobs is too much for me.
They saw an early card that made you discard treasure cards and got scared they'd be forced to discard one of the quest treasures if that's all they had.
Longest video I’ve ever watched in game play. I had and owned the original. This was much more difficult to win. This game cost direct from developers $190.00 The original needed no app. And still can play the game 40 years later. There is an app that is the original game. I play that too. I have to play this game solo because coop is long.
I'm pretty sure Dave is using his banner action incorrectly. You move to a space in your current kingdom. You don't teleport to any space in your kingdom.
Jay, this one was a Kickstarter and was limited copies after that. They are doing another campaign with another expansion on Backerkit right now.-Lincoln
I'm pretty sure you misplayed the glyphs. They're active for everyone when they're in only that region. At around the one-forty-five mark, Nikki had to spend 1 spirit to reinforce, but she wasn't in the region with the glyph.
I've been playing it the way they did but your comment made me doubt myself. The rulebook says "While a revealed glyph is facing your home kingdom..." Unless there's an errata?
@@jameslarochelle8501 rulebook is correct the glyph affects the player it is facing where ever region they are in, not all the players in that region. so it only affects one player ever. that is why the rulebook says home kingdom. it doesn't make much sense the glyphs affect you when players cannot see it
