Just a thanks. Confirmed your process (besides the display reset) works great for an '09 Jetta 2.5l. That filter wrench is a life saver, and even that is annoying when it binds on that housing. Our display is a bit different but your walk-through combined with a year-specific vid got it done.
Wow, here I just struggled with all my might getting off that stupid oil filter cap with an adjustable oil filter wrench cause I was informed it was just a 74mm socket, which when I used just slipped😂😂 wow awesome vid man
Another tip for getting your oil changed. Try to call different dealers and compare their price. It variants from 80-120... I changed the oil myself for the last two years and it usually costs 80 dollers to get the oil and filter. 6.3liter is a lot.... Compared with other cars. However, I found a VW dealer which has promotion for the oil change. 79plus tax, not bad.
Great video. It helped a lot. I'd suggest not trying to push over the plastic tip below the filter to drain it... you'll likely break the plastic. Just push up with something to open the valve and drain it. Next question... does it matter if the tip breaks off? :-)
watched and did all works out just do the same folks, i had ramps but still USE stands i have filter wrench but it cheaply made get good one if you can. i see you like to keep your car clean thanks
I did not notice, and that's why I ask, why you didn't fill up the oil filter before putting it on? Just a question, I'm sure there is a reason. Thank you and great video!
I have never ever filled the filter first before putting it on why would you do that? it fills so fast as soon as you crank the engine it is filled up I have been raised and even worked professionally on a Sports car racing team and no one ever did that plus you must make a big mess trying to put the filled fi lter back on.
I had to get new tires so I asked to have the oil changed at the same time. Mechanic told me they couldn’t do it because it was a Volkswagen. After watching this video I realize how full of shit the mechanic was.
Haha, that's ridiculous. I understand VW/Audi can be a pain in the ass to work on...but it's so important to find an honest mechanic these days. It's one thing if you don't want to do it, but be honest about it.
I think it is how many days till next oil change. If you drive less then 10k miles in a year the service light will turn on. Not sure why it doesn't show 365 days.
Hello, You can use the 5w30 full synthetic if your owners manual recommends it. You just need to make sure the type of oil is compliant to the recommended VW 502 00.
Hey mario sellet, yeah I have. It was definitely a pain because my 2012 Jetta SE (2.5 L) did not come with a dip stick with the automatic transmission. Essentially once you have drained the pain, dropped it and replaced the filter and gasket, it is time for the filling process. A lot of forums said to use the "anti-gravity" system which I found kind of weird. I removed the battery and battery block to expose the top of the transmission. There is an obvious bolt sticking out on that top part so I loosened it and sure enough it led to the inside of the transmission. The filling process was super slow because if I went too fast it would spill out. It took roughly 30 to 40 minutes to fill (super efficient -_-). Heading into the 3rd month with filling it this way and it seems to be working great so far. I do have an extremely small leak (like a drop every other day) so I think I pinched the gasket when putting it back in. Sorry for the long reply but I literally had to call every good mechanic and family member I knew in order to get a rough idea how to do it since most guides talk about filling from the dipstick. It was the first time doing a transmission fluid change for me as well so that added a lot more stress to it. BTW, i was not able to find the exact amout of fluid to put back so when all the old fluid drained out, I poured it into a container and marked off where it was filled to. Dumped out the old fluid and filled the container until the line with the new fluid. Let me know if you got any other questions, hopefully I could help.
@@dominiquebelasquez9241 , I have a 13 jetta. I guess its a PINTA either way you slice it. And there is another video where this young guy pulls battery out and gets to trans filter changes it but uses the old man's procedure to drain and fill fluid. I think you were on to something, but not sure how you drained the oil. Did you drop the whole trans pan? And if so, that's where your leak is from probably. Either way DIY is the way to go to save big bucks for dealer to do it. Thanks for your thorough reply, I rather have that than a 2 word response. God bless you and yours

good morning...I have a question for you please. The orange nipple that you move to the side to drain the oil out of the filter housing is that part of the filter housing. I can't seem to figure that out.It looks like it's the stem in the filter housing. The reason why I ask is because mine has a slow dripping leak. The dealer says I have to buy a "oil filter housing unit for $150. Oh great video by the way!
F Marrapodi hello, yes that is part on the filter housing. That is very expensive. If it is leaking from the nipple on the end, I found new covers online for $40. See link. www.partsgeek.com/gbproducts/SC/18277-08058393.html?SC&+Volkswagen+Jetta+Oil+Filter+Housing+Cap+OEM+07K+115+408+05-14+Volkswagen+Oil+Filter+Housing+Cap+2011+2009&fp=pp&gbm=a&PartsGeek+Google+Base&gclid=CjwKCAjwp7baBRBIEiwAPtjwxGiKEZHjbCYNGemljXOan32xWDRS_qhiyoq4ry20CcmFE6STazGNLBoCx60QAvD_BwE&ad=47433971532 that was a quick search I did. Might find one even cheaper. Hope this helps.
I literally have to do this everyday....it's very annoying and while I'm shifting with tiptronic the wrench eliminates what gear I'm in....What could be the issue???
Heya. I'm getting an oil pressure light but my mechanic says it's fine, just a sensor. If I buy it myself, is that the pressure sensor right next to the oil filter (like a lot of other cars)? I'm finding it hard to confirm the location online before I go about and do it myself. He wants to charge me a lot for an inexpensive part. Also, 2 sensors as well? Do you happen to know?
Andy Ayers Improves cold weather protection, performance and mpg while keeping the recommended oil weight. The number before “w” is how much thicker the oil is at cold temperatures compared to engine’s operating temperature. It’s better to have thinner oil at cold start so it can quickly spread and lubricate the entire engine. The number after the “-“ is the oil weight the engine requires by design. So going from the original 5w30 to the modern 0w30 is an upgrade.
The original is not a 5w-30. It's a 5w-40, as shown in this video. If you're using the 0w-30 oil, you're not giving this 2.5L 5-cylinder engine the protection that it needs. Try Mobil 1 0w-40 Full Synthetic European Car Formula. It accomplishes what you are trying to do at the appropriate viscosity.

Why does Volkswagen not specify what weight oil to use? The manual gives you oil weight options based on the temperature where you live. That is so confusing. Why not just specify one particular oil weight such as 5w-30 ??
When I bought my car it came with a service sticker that said to use 5w-30 I'd say 5 30 or 5 40 is probably the most commonly used oil unless you live somewhere with extreme temps. I live near Bellevue Washington if this helps
The milage wont change exactly to the odometer. As long as the service reset back to 10k it will keep track. I think it will change at even intervals like every 100 or 500 miles.
