Thank you. You got everything right in your presentation. Unlike some other channels where they neither know nor care about the accuracy of what they're saying, hams can actually learn from your channel. You're an Elmer.
Thanks John, I do try to make educational content. I appreciate the comment 👍
These reviews are excellent, and will hopefully lead up to better products to purchase in the future, thank you!
Thanks man, that is my hope.
Nice job Ape I was wondering how clean this amp would be.
I have to say I am a little disappointed, I really do like the amp.
Thanks for the primer. You always do informative work and I appreciate the reviews. Thanks for a good video.
Thanks Bet, glad you like them 👍
With the new software, I have grown to really like mine, and will continue to use it. 30m does not have it's own specific filter, it shares with 40, according to the creator. That might explain the emissions on 30.
I really like it to except for the emissions. Yes, that’s correct about 30m and I suspect 15/12 share with 10m 👍
Are the HF specs still the same as the VHF specs? I haven't looked
They are not, there is none of the
The amp should filter harmonics, but to be sure, you might check the radio output on the failing frequencies. The amp might be faithfully passing on what it was given.
I agree that the amp should filter them, and it does on some bands. I've tested the radio on 30m and it is clean...
Those attenuators look a lot like them shield generators I seen on Hoth, LOL. Thanks for another great test!
lol, thanks Mike
I've been thinking of getting one, and as I only operate on 20 & 40 it looks fine. I wonder if it would be worth checking the pass bands of the filters using the nanovna to make sure that the filters are centred. I think I'll do that anyway. MY nanoVNA is meant to arrive today!
I do like the amp. Congrats on the VNA 👍
Now repeat the test with the Hermes Lite and Adaptive Predistortion engaged.
-45 to -50dBc here we come :)
One of these days
Hi Ape,
Don't know if my math is wrong, but the 3rd harmonic of 14MHz is 42MHz. All the 3rd harmonics being shown are the 2nd harmonics, unless I'm missing something. 73 WJ3U
The markers are showing how far they are from the fundamental not the frequency of the harmonic 👍
Did you check the 705 for harmonics before starting this test?
Yes
@@TheSmokinApe it won't have been perfectly clean? How was the 705 on the bands that the amp did the worst at?
the 705 is clean
According to the official guidance of TinySA, in order to ensure measurement accuracy, the final signal strength input to TinySA should be controlled below -15dB. Therefore, for measuring 50W power equipment, it is necessary to add at least a 62dB attenuator, otherwise the measurement uncertainty will be increased. .
Good think this isn’t for the space shuttle 👍
@@TheSmokinApe Thank you very much for your test. The 30m band and 20m band share one LPF, and 15m and 10m share one LPF. Maybe some LPF adjustments during the production process are not perfect, so I will communicate with the foundry for improvement opinions and let the sales agent Some tips are added to the introduction page to let users know that poor suppression may occur in the 30m and 15m bands.
@@wdycsqcsqwdy do you work with the amp manufacturer?
As I understand it 30m and 15m are not enabled by default in the firmware. You have to go into settings to enable it. Or have I got that wrong
That might be true for newer versions of the firmware
Back in my day. Lol.... consumers didnt have no fancy pants equipment like that and we survived the spurs!😂👍
Lol
Thanks for the video!
Thanks for watching 👍
What is the upper safe power limit for the Tiny SA? In other words how do you know how much attenuation is needed to knock it down so that the Tiny SA won't get fried?
It’s pretty low, I want to say it’s about +6dbm.10w is 40dbm so 5w would be 37dbm, you will get used to the math OR you can use a calculator www.everythingrf.com/rf-calculators/watt-to-dbm
looks like to use it on 30 meters you will need a band pass filter. only a 50 watt amp. them small band pass filters will work or just wind your own. for the 10 meter band the harmonics are over 35 MHZ so a low pass filter with a cut off around 35 MHZ will work great. RM Italy as one as well as Comet and MFJ . pass 1.8 to 30 MHZ. it is important to check each band. I am testing a RM Italy KL 805 /24V/ 600 watt amp and it is shocking clean . I am using a Byrd line section as a tap off a 2.5KW dummy load. what you have to do for high power levels. you are working HF them extra coax and connectors is not a problem. when I test a RF amp I go threw all the factors. I use scope to look at wave form . look at input SWR . out put power and harmonics and scope for distortion . also the input voltage and amps .also the heat made from the amp. ICOM is very clean. I have tested the 705 and 7300 and my old 735. the 705 is not mine . belongs to oner of amp. just testing and setting up for him. love how you took the time to go threw the bands. what are real clean is tube amps with a PI output tune. I still test. a leaky or off value cap in the out put section can throw off harmonics . 73's
Yeah, I’m thinking about a filter for 30 or for 10 👍
Some of these companies have just got to hate the ease at which the average consumer can check the quality of purchased equipment.
I’m sure they do 🍻
Yes. That is a big ass attenuator.
Lol
Is it possible that a different unit would perform better?
Anything is possible but more than one I’ve seen are the same way
very nice documentation of measurements.. but, what if a atu is put on the output of the pa ?,, a simple Phi-atu mfj-900 or similar... vy73 de oz1fjb - ou2v
It might make a difference. Thanks for the comment 👍
Does that Amplifier have band pass filters? Maybe its not designed for use on 30 Meters.
Hey Optimus, it does have band pass filters and the manual says it's good for 30
What is the firmware version? I have the Micro PA50 and just got all the stuff to do an update, USB to TTL and six wire cable. Thanks.
Hey Buck, it's 2.6. Here is a video I did on the upgrade: ua-cam.com/video/yB7JOUCRM1I/v-deo.html
@@TheSmokinApe It is that video that alerted me to the upgrade. When I get it done I will see how it compares to your findings. I received my DIY PA500 in October, so I don't know how much I will use the Micro PA50. Always good to have a backup! Again, thank you for bringing us this good information. 73
I do want to get that PA500. Thanks for watching!
Thanks!
No problem!
Anyone know what chord is used for the ACC port to connect to the Xiegu g90?
Sorry man, I don’t
I need to get one of those big a$$ attenuators! Man, do any of these manufacturers actually test their products for spurious emissions?
That big a$$ attenuator is handy. Based off almost everything being non-compliant, I am going to have to say they either do not test OR do not care.
Mine is coming in here in a few days 🙃
👀
Good primer for Cafe Noir tonight!
Thanks OA, and my stuff shipped already 👍
They do ship quick. I thought it was just because I was special but guess not
you are to me...
@@TheSmokinApe Awesome 💯
My Rigol SA would be fun to redo this test on.
Heck yeah
Wonder how the micro PA50 + passes this test
Haven’t tested that one yet
They did that Amp dirty.
They sure did 👀
They said the PA50+ has improved numbers.
Hey Mike. I've hear the same but am hesitant to spend another $150 on these cheap amps.
Maybe worth noting that the TinySA (I assume) is not calibrated. So, this is an indication of harmonic levels (especially on the marginal results??). Maybe some low pass filters on the output would bring it in line on the higher frequencies?
Hey Steve, the TinySA is calibrated. You could add a low pass to clean things up...
What? You don't want to share medical issues on 80? Thanks for the review.
Lol
👍
Thanks for watching!
So you have yourself a big a$$ and a little a$$ attenuators and a tiny a$$ spectrum analyzer, sure is a whole lotta a$$🏋♀ I just received a micro pa50+, I must check it out with my similar a$$'s. Love the channel and remember what I said smoke what you roll and toss the vaporizer! 🚭
lol! Glad you like the videos Goober 👍
