"a very finessed delivery of surface textures" - spoken like a true audiophile. Next time I'm in an audio store and they ask me what am I looking for, that's exactly what I'm going to say.
I'm not even in the market for a new amp but the superb production quality of this video had me hooked all the way through! Beautiful on the eyes and the ears!
Who in their right mind gives a thumbs down rating to this freakn' awesome review? Seriously! John, you did fantastic once again and I think this just made my mind up on a new install in our #63Renovation project. I've followed NAD for a long time (1980's were such good times for NAD) and I just may head back to them due to the M10 release. As I build a ROON-based system with a Mac-mini and Synology backend I'm sure I can make this little beasty part of my kit. Thank you for the excellent review and appreciate the candor, too.
I'm still using the same NAD 3120 amp I bought as a student back in 1981. It's as good as new, but is now connected to my PC too. Wonderfully made and a great sound.
Ok, this broke nearly all of the rules for online hifi reviews. It was informative and well presented. Engaging and conversational. Interesting products and details about the products with practical suggestions about the feature sets. BTW I vote for room correction and Selling England by the Pound, Thank you and well played.
The music throughout the video during the cut-scenes is so good I forgot what video I was watching more than once. That may also be a side effect of THC.
you and the editor do a great job at audio reviews thanks a lot appreciate all your input, I share the same passion for audio/music, I tell ya pink Floyd's song money is a very good song for testing out audio equipment and speakers
Really great and timely video for me. I have a Uniti Atom in a small room, with horrible geometry and bass boom. I had just but a UMIK1 to play around with REW and the convolution app in Roon, but this wouldn’t help me with vinyl play back. The fact that Dirac works with all inputs on the M10 makes it sound ideal for my room and use. Plus I like bluOS having used it previously on a node 2.
Amazing video! Your best yet! Love the animations and the music to match the cuts on the editing are great too. All the little bits and backed up by a great review along with comparisons for perspective make for a superb video. Your best yet John! You covered almost everything and even let us know how the sound was with and without dirac. You only missed the subwoofer out which is a great feature to have if you want to integrate a sub and can be corrected with dirac as well for a seamless merge to the speakers. My only question now would be if the sound can improve any if using the preouts to a higher end amp?
Another well thought out and very informative video. Thank you John and Jana and Olaf!! I love the way you break down each piece of equipment and cut through to the plus and minuses of each one. I was just watching your review of the Denafrips DAC (again). You certainly know how to pick your equipment. Keep up the great work and thanks again to each of you. Cheers!
First a correction John - everyone knows that Foxtrot is the best Genesis album - not Lamb's or Abacab! I just bought one of these and am really enjoying it. Darko, you have nailed it here. I considered both the Naim Uniti Atom and the NAD M10 and eneded up with the NAD. The Dirac really made the difference for me and that may be because I have limited options for my listening room. However, I guess that is exactly what Dirac intended. The issue for me was the lack of Harmony remote integration. I have everything working through a a Harmony remote and the inability to add the M10 as a device was nearly a deal breaker. The saviour ended up being the HDMI ARC connection from the TV and the M10's ability to switch when it sensed input from the HDMI ARC. Everything connected to my TV that the Harmony controls could be controlled and the TV sound came through through HDMI. I can still control audio from the Roon app for music and BluOS app for everything else. The effect is that it all works though I would love to have the M10 as a harmony controllable device just for completeness and options. I have had a few random reboots and I'm glad I have Roon for music integration as the BluOS app seems flaky especially on iOS for its library. Slow to browse and limited in what metadata it exposes or by which it sorts. It really is no patch on the Sonos app which is way nicer to work with. Still at least I have the options. Looking forward to AirPlay 2 being released as it's still in Apple's tree to approve at the moment. I've put a Chromecast Audio in the Optical port to take care of that though acknowledge the fact that Bluetooth may do just fine. The added Bluetooth headphone output is great though it took me some finding to see how it works. The place to be found made sense, but no documentation on it at all meant I had to spend a few minutes looking. In sum, a great purchase which I know is going to give me years of fun ahead. I hope that other speaker manufacturers adopt BluOS as an option or at least BluOS built a low cost active inline product to connect to active speakers. Now, Suppers Ready so I will depart!
Did you hear both units to compare? I'm coming from a Devialet 200, a sound I love but hate the streaming part. Would you say the M10 has a dark background without sounding clinical? And how is the app to control the unit?
Please try also the full dirac version! From my experience the mids and highs can change also quite a lot and the soundstage as well the instruments snap into place nicely too!
Just purchased M10 and a pair of KHL Model 3’s based on your review. Thanks for your great reviews JD. Love the authenticity. Now for the agonising wait for the gear to turn up 😉
Thank you John for all the great video reviews, after watching this one I decided to move to the world of #futurefi I just ordered the M10 and a pair of ELAC Uni-Fi UB5 Slim.
Thanks for reviewing this NAD amp. It's the amp of the future! Very cool unit. To your crew, very high quality stuff, which is a very big reason I continue to watch the channel. Keep up the great work. Did you ever get a chance to review the Sonos Amp? Just curious what your take on it is...
I am currently using a Naim Unitiqute 2 driving a pair of Neat Iota speakers. The Naim is only rated at 30 wpc but in a smallish room can drive the Neats hard enough for most occasions. If I need more drive I use the preamp out from the Naim into a Primare A30.1 which has recently been serviced. I use a Sonos connect to stream Qobuz to the UQ2 using the UQ2 built in dac. I am dithering a bit on whether to ditch the sonos for the bluesound node 2i to get the higher res function and the bluesound app which seems to be well liked. The Naim does spotify connect but I don’t use it because the Naim software app is clunky. However, this review is making me scratch my head and ponder whether the M10 might be the one box solution for all my streaming needs and give me more welly for the Neat Iotas. Glad to have any observations from fellow you tubers.
FIRST SAW THIS PRODUCT IN TORONTO CANADA WAY BACK IN 1982 AND IT WAS NEW TO THE MARKET THE SOUND WAS SO ASTONISHIN/PURE COULD NOT AFFORD IT THEN SO I WENT BACK AT LEAST A DOZEN TIMES TO LISTEN TO THEM BUT I WAS A STUDENT THEN IT WAS A BEAUTIFULL MEMORY IN SOUND REPRODUCTION.
John, I am absolutely loving the playlist you provided here. Do you have any more? I’m on Tidal. I think we share some of the same eclectic tastes. I’d love to have my ears opened wider.
M10 is a great little unit! For the coin it sounds really incredible!!! The headphone socket would have been great though. Nice Stranger Things track with that propulsive bass line!!! Fab video John!!! Your channel is the very BEST on the internet.
For the room you’re in the M10 is appropriate but I just bought the C275BEE and it overpowers even my 32’ x 26’ x 22’’ living room with Polk Legends and C658 DAC. If that is helpful information. You are very right on the room making the biggest difference.
Something I noticed. Just got the M10 yesterday, hooked it up and messed around with some of the settings. At first I wasn't impressed with the power output. My turntables simply weren't very loud, even at max volume. But immediately after turning off the tone control toggle the volume increased! I'm not sure if this is a bug or not (and it's really not a big deal to me as I generally don't use tone controls) but I did find it odd.
It's something in the BluOS. On my Node 2i, if you toggle the tone controls on, even if they're flat, the level drops and the sound quality gets a little muffled sounding. So rather than try and adjust the tone controls to"fix" it, I just turned them back off.
How can the horizontal plane of the sound stage drop? What mechanism could achieve that other than moving your speakers? - or switching off the tweeters!
excellent Im just thinking of replacing my Naim Uniti2 as I find the high frequencies in vocals sibilant what drives me crazy. One of the choices is new Hegel 120 or Nad m10 ( it has tone controls) still not sure what to choose.
That seems cool. It’s very “Now” and if it makes sense with the Harbeths and can be tailored and optimised it must be a fantastic value. Very interesting!
Wow, room correction is a SERIOUS advantage. I have 4pcs 2ft x 4ft acoustic panels, 1pcs 4ft x 6ft panel and 4 corner bass traps as well as more bass traps under the suspended floor. I still get a benefit with room correction. (And bass is tight as...)
Hoping to compare the Naim Uniti Nova, Primare I35i Prisma, and the new Hegel 390 . All potentially an all in one box solution , and all reasonably similar in price ? Any thoughts ?
Nice review John, appreciate it. I haven't listened to the NAD but the package is great! One word about Dirac: that feature alone brought an improvement to my sound at home for about 40% (using the miniDSP SHD. Any thoughts about reviewing that product?😉 It's worth it.)! Unless you have a very well treated room, Dirac might be an (big!) improvement in almost every environment. You are most likely right about everything, but I would rate the implementation of Dirac a lot higher. With Dirac included the NAD takes the cake easily against the Naim. I wholeheartedly can only recommend Dirac and Bluesound.
Excellent video, I really enjoy hearing your perspective. Lamb lies down does it for me. Maybe a discussion on the top concept albums of the 70’s would make an interesting segment. He’s to hoping you hit 50k subscribers.
Great video. U should add the Naim to the name of it. Two questions, is the Naim kallaxfi? Also, in a medium to big room which one would u choose? Naim 40w class a/b or class d at 100w? Thanks!
Would you advise buying an M10 V1 in 2023? (2nd hand). I'm in the market for a new amp (coming from a NAD C356bee) and I love the concept of an all in one with a display like the M10, like the Naim Unity Atom, like the Cambridge Audio Evo 75/150. Also the new M10 V2. But those are all above my budget. And I think a second hand M10 would be better than an C700
That's why I purchased a Naim Uniti Star it just had more power and better sound than the atom. I am running the new Monitor Gold 200 speakers with updated drivers tickled down from the platinum line.
You’re right about The Lamb, definitely their best album, though Selling England by the Pound is a close second for me. Anyway not Duke. Love the videos BTW - entertaining and informative.
This is an excellent review for sure. I do wish you would have reported on how it worked as a preamp. Or a review of the NAD C658 coming from you would be very interesting. I am interested in the possibility of putting one of these nice Blue OS streamer Dacs with a tube amp or high quality class A SS.
Love the comment of about the Shiit phono stage! I have the NAD M10 as well, not bad so far...The ESS and Hypex combo make it great sounding. My only question is can you hook up a USB drive and play music off of that? I tried several and I can't get it to recognize it.
Excellent review and I love your vibe. This segment is less timeless than components, so it is striking that the atom can keep up, even though it predates the NAD by almost 2 years. I would love your opinion how these two compete in terms of driving more demanding speakers.
Great video as always, just one error. The best albums from Genesis are 'Foxtrot' and 'Selling England by the Pound'. I can forgive you because you are a young whippersnapper and I love you. This room correction stuff blows my mind!
Hi now that you reviewed both M10 and M10V2 have you reviewed C399? if so how does this one stack up to those M10s I mean it has more powerful Hypex nCore but does it sound better or is it just more powerful? I have an M10V1 but love the classic look of the C399 Hope to hear you brutal opinion 😄😂🙏🏼
Nice to have confirmation of my choice, John. A lot of your points from this video I’d applied in my search. The only bummer is the missing headphone jack, and the inability to mute the speakers when listening via pre-out through headphone amp. I’ve raised a development request with NAD/Bluesound; wish me luck. Lastly, kudos on the album choice, the best Genesis album. Wind and Wuthering the best from the Phil Collins era, IMHO.
Question. The NAD has an HDMI connector, does that mean your smart TV can connect to your two channel stereo? Also lets say I don't want the amplifier is there a slimmed down version of the NAD M10??
Excellent review as always. On some MQA tracks it makes a significant difference, in my opinion making digital more like top end vinyl reproduction. Sony 1000xm3 take BT headphones to a new level. With DIRAC in M10 I wonder wether this is the next step in tuning music systems to the day to day reality of normal domestic settings. Exciting. Only time will tell? Well done NAD, this could be a game changer.
Looks really cool and a strong competitor to the Naim Uniti Atom! I used to have a NAD D7050 and I sold it as the app was atrocious and buggy. Has that changed that for the better?
They could do with some user experience testing, like the volume would be easier to draw a straight line up and down than following a circular path, lots of little faults that could be improved by more user testing.
Hi John, the M10 is a bit to pricey here in Europe … they are charging us ~500€ more than e.g. in the US or the UK. My Budget alternative would be the new Marantz Melody X … it's a Little bigger, but still fit's into a Kallax and it's got a headphone jack!
John I am bit late to this party. See it was made last year. I think I am sold on the NAD M10. I'm gonna marry it with pair of Klipsch. Yeah I can hear some people already crying, and believe me eventually I would love to get tubes in the mix with Klipsch speakers (but on the preamp end only, but that's another story). For now, I just want something simple and offers a lot. If you happen to read this soon, love to hear your thoughts after pairing this with the Klipsch you have in you pad. Cheers.
@3:20, no. You want that to be user-configurable. Not just 'flip', you want font selection, font size, colour, placement / position of text...extra. Hi-end audio is years...years behind in UI UX.
I have the M10 now for a few weeks. Great for music with my focals. However when connecting HDMI ARC on prime/ Netflix I noticed it blocks on 5.1 sources. On Netflix I can go to a menu and manually select a stereo audio stream, but on prime I couldn't yesterday so needed to revert to tv sound. I feels off that such a high end product cannot downsample this. Anybody got a solution?
any chance you can comment on (either here or on the blog) about how the MDC BlueOS 2i module compared to say the DigiOne streamer? the bigger question being, go integrated or discrete? would really help since here I don't have the option of trying these various solutions out on my own.
Sir, what do you think of a NAD M10 paired with KEF LS50 or with the newer LS50 Meta to be used with music from iTunes library via airplay, internet radio AND as a basic home teather system?
Does the room correction software have the ability to change microphones??? If not, the specific included mic will have a profile, which is part of accurate measurement !
Love the m10... have one since 10 days ... just two days my bluos seemed to die and no art covers shown... but bluos is amazing ... in using with some KEF R3 and sounds amazing ... Dirac live for me didn’t do something good
Another interesting review with especially informative comparisons. Based on your summaries for the Naim and the NAD, the Naim is likely to appeal more than the NAD. Thanks again.
Great reviews! Especially the big surprise (but absolutely legit) Naim Atom comparison. Would you think a Linn Majik 3 is worth mentioning/comparing? And how would an Amp 1 of NAD compare and work with the Harbeth speakers? Hope to see that kind of reviews too. Keep up the nice work.great videos!
Honestly these product are so out of reach for me that I can't even find myself to be interested in what's going on. But John, don't ever stop editing videos the way you do. The way you produce media is just perfect, easy to consume.
I don't get expensive class D amplifiers that don't use the efficiency to give you ample power. The M10 should have at least 250 watts per channel into 8 ohms and NAD should not waste your time / nickel and dime you and include the full version of Dirac Live. Then it would be worthy of the Master series name.
I wish the V2 could play full 5.1 setup to be able to play BD audio (any audio format could not beat the BD Audio with bitstream option specially when most people already own a 5.1 setup)
Animations were really good. Loved it. Not too over bearing or crazy. Very elegant. Thanks for th video.
I love my M10. Dirac has transformed my listening pleasure. My room is horrible for audio but now it sounds amazing. It’s wonderful technology.
It would be very interesting to compare the NAD M10 to a NAD C 658 with a Crown XLS 1502 Drivecore
@@mag290 No because the NAD 10 is much better.
Thanks a ton for taking the time to make this great review, considering picking one of these up for a new setup. Cheers!

Terrific review. I recently purchased the NAD C 658 and loved what Dirac did for me.
It's on my list, hooked on an amp or active speakers?
The Duke tour 1980 was most probably the best. Small theatre shows with a great spread of songs, simple light show and amazing sound.
Heartland t shirt. I went to see The The in 1989 at Newcastle city hall. best concert I have ever been to!
you and the editor do a great job at audio reviews thanks a lot appreciate all your input, I share the same passion for audio/music, I tell ya pink Floyd's song money is a very good song for testing out audio equipment and speakers

Jana does beautiful work.
Cheers!

Loved that TRONesk music at the beginning and you holding the back panel up for our viewing pleasure. Informative and EVEN, on brand Mr.Darko. ⚡
Love this M10 with Harbeth. But love t-shirt more. The The (The Perfect). Great channel John! Cheers, Mark
Just purchased M10 and a pair of KHL Model 3’s based on your review. Thanks for your great reviews JD. Love the authenticity. Now for the agonising wait for the gear to turn up 😉
I have bought the NAD10 and it's the best soundsystem I have ever bought. Better than all the other streaming amplifiers.
Thank you John for all the great video reviews, after watching this one I decided to move to the world of #futurefi I just ordered the M10 and a pair of ELAC Uni-Fi UB5 Slim.
OMG - that’s the first NAD amp I love the look of. Move over Macintosh, we got a new VU in town.
haha, its more a uv meter..macintosh should re invent theirs
Me too
Fantastic review. Frankly, no one is doing it better than John with these reviews. Also, major kudos to Jana for always making John look good!
What’s actually the difference between the M10 V1 and M10 V2?
And in M10 V1 a good buy today?
John - another great future-fi review. Jana - you rock!
Another best in class review and video production John. Am eagerly awaiting John Darko’s “dream #futurefi setup”. Great job once again.
Jana makes really great videos. Please encourage her to post more.
P.S. Your's are really good also John.
Oh how I LOVE "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway"!

Love the The The t-shirt. Matt Johnson is a personal hero of mine!
César Moniz was going to be my comment exactly!
Excellent quality and very informative. Thanks for doing great work.

Glad the Best Genesis Album has been solved, it was getting annoying. Excellent review. Glad to see NAD is still on the Path after 35 years plus plus
I watched Steve Guttenberg's interview with Jana. Very lovely, nice, thoughtful, smart young woman. Yes, like her work.
That seems cool. It’s very “Now” and if it makes sense with the Harbeths and can be tailored and optimised it must be a fantastic value. Very interesting!

Great review! Yours are the best on the web and are showing the rest how to do it right. Thanks, and keep it up.
Thanks for a great channel. Will you do a test of the newly updated NADM10V3?
Hoping to compare the Naim Uniti Nova, Primare I35i Prisma, and the new Hegel 390 . All potentially an all in one box solution , and all reasonably similar in price ? Any thoughts ?
I’m struggling to choose between the M10 and the Hegel H90. Which would you choose (if paired with Magnepan LRS). Thanks for the great content!

I love dmc time windows. Mine are pecan color

Nice! Thanks for music recommendations. I agree on Genesis.
That's why I purchased a Naim Uniti Star it just had more power and better sound than the atom. I am running the new Monitor Gold 200 speakers with updated drivers tickled down from the platinum line.
Beautiful to look at ,but not sure if I wanna be tied to the internal amp
My favorite Genesis album is A Trick of the Tail.
You’re right about The Lamb, definitely their best album, though Selling England by the Pound is a close second for me. Anyway not Duke. Love the videos BTW - entertaining and informative.
Nick Moys
Any of the albums with Peter Gabriel, hard to pick a best
This is an excellent review for sure. I do wish you would have reported on how it worked as a preamp. Or a review of the NAD C658 coming from you would be very interesting. I am interested in the possibility of putting one of these nice Blue OS streamer Dacs with a tube amp or high quality class A SS.
Love the comment of about the Shiit phono stage! I have the NAD M10 as well, not bad so far...The ESS and Hypex combo make it great sounding. My only question is can you hook up a USB drive and play music off of that? I tried several and I can't get it to recognize it.
Foxtrot for me, suppers ready ! Love the NAD am tempted ❤️
The Lamb for me too. In fact it's been years, I'm putting it on now.
Extra points for Genesis TLLDOB.
Agree John the Lamb is Genesis’s best, also my fav. Great review.
Thanks! I’d been waiting for this comparison.
A proper Hi-Fi review, you had me hanging on your every word. Brilliant
Excellent review and I love your vibe.
This segment is less timeless than components, so it is striking that the atom can keep up, even though it predates the NAD by almost 2 years.
I would love your opinion how these two compete in terms of driving more demanding speakers.
Needs a big volume knob on top like what Naim does. Touch screen volume is too fiddly.
That's what she said...:)
bassandtrebleclef true, a volume knob is superior and has a much better feel
How would you compare the Nad M10 and Naim Uniti Atom to Micromega M-One series and Lyngdork TDAI-1120 ?
thx.
Great video as always, just one error. The best albums from Genesis are 'Foxtrot' and 'Selling England by the Pound'. I can forgive you because you are a young whippersnapper and I love you. This room correction stuff blows my mind!
Ian Sharp
I have to agree with you. They are all masterpieces. Peter Gabriel
Hi now that you reviewed both M10 and M10V2 have you reviewed C399? if so how does this one stack up to those M10s I mean it has more powerful Hypex nCore but does it sound better or is it just more powerful? I have an M10V1 but love the classic look of the C399
Hope to hear you brutal opinion 😄😂🙏🏼
Wish there were two sets of speaker terminals as well as the head phone jack socket that you mentioned
Ok, let's just be clear abut one thing. Selling England by the Pound is Genesis' best album.
Here Here...or should that be Hear Hear...
Absolutely
I second that.
Nope, its Seconds Out
Looks really cool and a strong competitor to the Naim Uniti Atom!
When you did the test of the DIRAC LIVE with the M10, did you upgraded it to DIRAC LIVE PRO ($99 option)?
That's addressed in the video.
Hi john just subscribed today because I like the down to earth clear information you are giving plus your overall style Plus your Brit
🤗WATCHING AND ENJOYING EVERYTHING AGAIN …THANKS AGAIN JOHN 😁😍😍😍
Dirac live for me didn’t do something good
Did you ever got your M10 working>
Another interesting review with especially informative comparisons. Based on your summaries for the Naim and the NAD, the Naim is likely to appeal more than the NAD. Thanks again.
Last NAD I owned was a 3020. I regret selling it. Served me very, very well.
Original? They remade it in the late 90s IIRC. Maybe early 2000s.
I still have a 7225pe receiver. Just took it out of use after 30 years, will make a great backup.
I've still got a 302 that I bought when they first came out, it still sounds pretty good for a cheap amp from its era.
Great review and video production :)
