Good tips but another important one is a modern undercoating treatment like NHOU or Fluid Film. In NH for example, if you don’t oil undercoat your vehicle, within just a couple of years the brine salt they use on the roads will begin rotting your frame, body and more regardless of how much you wash it. These treatments are typically done annually for best results. I oil undercoat my vehicles each fall. If you’re going to keep your Jeep more than a few years, undercoating is a no brainer.
In all of our Jeeps, I have jumper cables, a pair of Mehanix gloves, a 10T bottle jack and a torque wrench. If I have to put on a spare, I have everything there that I need and can get it torqued to spec right on the spot. I use Fluid Film on all of our winter vehicles here in NE Ohio. Have to correct you on that...issues over covering pre-existing rust has to do with a dry undercoating product like paint. Fluid Film never dries and it is a self healing, it does not trap moisture and air under the coating because it displaces moisture and keeps the oxygen from oxidizing the metal. Frames rot from the inside out, so if you're just treating what you can see, you're not going to know that you have a major rot issue until it is too late. The Adams spray looks like it would be nice for fender wells and what you can see, but no way is that going to be able to protect inside of the frame. Check out Fluid Film or Blaster Surface Shield.
I work road construction We always carry a hi-vis retro reflective vest in all are vehicles All year around. In addition to the equipment you showed Thank for the video
First aid kit. Winter hat, scarf, gloves. A blanket for each person. A metal can and candle with matches (to create heat when you need to conserve gas), solar charger for your phones. A small cooler with water and a snack.
Dielectric grease is was you're thinking of. Another tip for winterizing, is one my dad taught me. Buy a bottle of glycerin. You can find it at any drug store, or pharmacy. Dip your key in it and insert it a few times, into the door key slot. Then wipe more on all the rubber seals on the jeep, both body and door. After you shut the door, rub some on the gap around the door. All this will ensure your doors and seals never freeze.
on the backpack, I typically keep a 3 day pack. This is more for a break down or accident scenario. Plus, if me and the wifey have a last-minute idea to stay over anywhere, we are covered. Otherwise, I am on board with your list. Even in Florida, it's a good idea to have a jacket and boots. I keep both.
A few years back, Atlanta area got a snow/ice storm that came in, and since their system wasn't prepared for it, a few inches of ice/snow had people stuck on the freeways for hours. My friend got stuck in it and was parked on the loop for about 18 hours, with nothing but a hoodie and Netflix.
I keep some LED Road Safety Flares Roadside Warning Safety Flare Kit for Car, Truck, RV & Boat with Magnetic Base, Hooks to Hang & Carrying Bag | 4 Beacon Disc Pack with 9 Flash Modes in all of my vehicles, instead of flares that can cause a fire and burn out. They come in a storage bag and are super bright. You can use the magnet to stick them on your car or lay them in the street to warn oncoming cars to a problem in the road. Check the batteries regularly to make sure they are ready when you need them. I also keep a LifeStraw Personal Water Filter in the car so we can always filter water.
Good video Matt. I fluid film my vehicles. When I had my 2019 Ram 2500 before I sold it to get my Jl I had fluid film on that and the underside stayed flawless. Would only need slight touchup every year. Just so you know it will displace water. So if you have some rust it seeps into the nooks and crannies to preserve what you have.
Dielectric grease 7:30 This year I am going to be packing in a BioLite stove. I normally mount up my aluminum hiking shovel, and mounting my traction boards when the weather starts to turn (PNW). I have the NOCO and have yet to use it on my vehicle but have started a few others with it already! Thanks for the reminder to charge it again!
Hey Matt. Great tips, especially about being prepared to be stuck in the cold. A few years back, a friend was stuck on the Interstate outside Atlanta for 18 hours when they closed the roads due to sudden ice and snow storm (and southerners, so they didn't have enough plows/salt spreaders). Also, it was Dielectric Grease is what you were thinking of. I used it in my mechanical keyboard stabilizers 😄
Like the friend said, here in GA we do not have the same harsh winters but it is better to be prepared. My house is on a bit of an up hill and the neighbors couldn’t drive up the street, we did thanks to the 4WD on our Mitsubishis and like I said am always prepared as well. Love your channel 👍
Water some food like bars or trail mix. 1st aid kit. Flairs, gloves, hat, lighter, flashlight, expandable shovel and most importantly extra ammo. Im in pa and fluid film for sure.
I Carrie two snatch blocks, extreme 1st aid kit with a small radio, 2 flashlights, 4 packs of emergency water, 1 sleeping bag, 1 winter blanket, extra clothes, shoes, boots, socks, and whatnot, battery jumper and cables and tools and much much more recovery gear
@DIRT ROAD CRED I will send you pictures since I live in Washington state near the rain forest I keep a lot of stuff with me especially during the winter cause it does snow and rain along
Get a pair of LED Road flares I got 6 they come in handy can stick them on your truck or lay them on the ground as a flare for different light sequences and they are orange, Get a visibility vest if you are out of your vehicle at night. few little candles in case you need to keep warm in the vehicle when it's broken during the winter.
Great tips! And you gave me cool gift ideas for my brother with his Wrangler JL Islander. All of your videos are helping me to decide on my purchase of a Jeep Wrangler to fulfill a dream I have had of exploring mountain trails… especially during the snowy winter time! 😊
A solid LED headband flashlight. Certainly not the coolest looking attire but great for working at night and having both hands free for recovery, tire changes, repairs etc… and takes up minimal space.
A good video, but I live in Florida so winter time. How I prepare my Vehicle for a Florida winter # 1 clean windows, # 2 service horn, # 3 headlight must work ( on high and low beam ) # 4 replace wiper blades (Fill wash fluid 32* F fluid ok) # 5 check Brakes ( repair or replace ) # 6 remove front two panels on hard top and install canvas front opening top # 7 replace a/c filter.
BTW - “Dielectric Grease” Pull your bulbs and grease them up, too. When I was in W.V. hills for a while, SEALED dried fruit/meat, TWO pairs of undies, a reflective blanket, and a machete strapped to the rollbar was some I also always had, too. BUT - Yep. Sorry, Matt. Today’s high was 87 degrees. We bypass our heater cores down here in SWFL.
@@DIRTROADCRED Came across downed limbs dangling across the roads, on the way home one ice storm night. I was able to chop them to the ground and drag them off the road rather than bash them into the windowframe. I’m not going to admit that a machete straps to the TOP of the rollbar and under the top, very easily, hiding it from anyone, but still putting it within easy reach.
Great tips…. The ceramic coating sounds interesting……. I carry a window breaker / seat belt cutter hammer in my JK in case you’re trapped inside. Or you need to help somebody who is trapped.
This channel has a feel that has become, a commercial for products he's selling. Dirt Road Cred - Let's see you back out there! How about a journey or something? I mean, this is helpful, but it's very basic helpful. Which is still great, but less commercially please. Cheers!
Hey Matt I've been following your channel for awhile, didn't know you had stickers. Would love to put one on the back window of my new jeep, and represent you in California
Dielectric grease! Every offroader should be using that on electrical connections that are susceptible to moisture. Especially low lights and electrical locker connections.
Great video, it's called Dielectric grease 👍👍also I've tried the Adams and it's pretty good, but I switched to Turtle 🐢 wax Hybrid Solutions PRO Graphene infused flex wax spray, and their Graphene infused to the max wax, Awesome products. I have spent and wasted alot of money on these type of products, and I can honestly recommend this product. I also keep a high powered flashlight in my Jeep, spare clothes is a great idea, also most important, I also keep a spare watermelon vape in my center console 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣😂😂never know when you may be forced to chill for several hours.
Great video as allways Matt, I heard of Surface Shield which is different from fluid film. It actually seeps into the metal and coats it instead of a layer of film that can come off with a pressure washer. check it out! thanks again for all the vids, keep em comming and glad to see you back on the tube!
Had my wrangler sport 2020 undercoating by dealer day 1 as part of the sale.. no rust so far. I would recommend flairs light em they last for hours while you keep safe and warm inside vehicle and can be spotted from far away 😉 also shovel or object that can be used as shovel. Scraper or brush.

Fluid film is AMAZING. Highly recommend.
I did NHOU boss wax on my new Jeep. I recommend it
little folding shovel is super handy in the winter.

Thank you for the input on the fluid film, I didn’t know all of that!

Glad they help!
Matt, you could do a video on jacks to carry in the winter time or all year.
Awesome idea Dustin!
A solid LED headband flashlight. Certainly not the coolest looking attire but great for working at night and having both hands free for recovery, tire changes, repairs etc… and takes up minimal space.
Great idea!!!!
Another item I would add is a Sno Pro. It doesn't scratch the jeep but is handle when you come out and need to clear snow off during the winter.
I’ll have to check that out!
While not Jeep specific, I like the Rain-X de-icer windshield washer fluid.
That’s a good tip!

Excellent pointers even for those of us with much milder winters.

I fill the back with boxes of wine for my dual box of wine hat. Two gallons son! Enough for a 30 drive in the snow.

Dielectric grease! Every offroader should be using that on electrical connections that are susceptible to moisture. Especially low lights and electrical locker connections.
Right on!
Emergency pint of Jack Daniel's, small plastic snow shovel, and, absolutely, positively, a first aid kit.
