When he mentioned the history of the GLE when it started as an ML, I couldn’t resist but saying, I had a 99 ML320 for 18 years. I still miss the ride, comfort and solid feel. I drove it through blizzards and Florida heat. I’m still not sure why, other than saving money, MB changed the 2nd row configuration. It had 3 separate individual seats in the 2nd row. They were all full size. I also added the 3rd row. Those were full size seats too. The good old days. It still drove, quite and comfort like new.
@@MattTheCarguy Oh, you got it when they updated the interior with $5,000 in extras, and didn’t charge any extras. They just took it from the dealers profits. The issue the design has is the airflow censor. Where it is placed, it gets dirty and can’t really clean it. I had mine replaced three times during the 18 years. Once under warranty. Other than that, it was great.
@@CookandBakewithSamer i only had mine for less than a year so i cant say long term, but I worked for MB dealerships for about 5 years and have seen many come in with similar issues. Not exclusive to ML either. I did like the sturdiness and finish quality. Now you can push in a metal panel with your finger. Try doing that on nineties car.
Great job Matt, I liked your level of detail and thoroughness. Cinematography was great, it must be another hobby of yours. Something i have to work on for my channel.
Kyle Conner from the Out of Spec Reviews channel just did electric only range tests on the GLE 450e and got 58 miles at a constant 70mph and 68 miles on a slower run. That is very impressive! I prefer the ICE engine in the BMW X5 50e, but I think I would take the one second slower 0-60mph Mercedes to get the extra electric range. The only real world electric only range test I have found so far on the BMW X5 50e got only the rated 40 miles from fully charged to empty.
Except it is like 3 seconds slower in EV only mode and 3 seconds slower in ICE only...So if you don't charge the battery and don't combine both it is incredibly slow in both modes...Basically the worst of both worlds lol
I don't think so. The new E-class instrument panel behind the steering wheel looks really cheap, like what you'd have in a $20k or $25k car. I'll take the GLE 450e instrument screen every day over that! Much nicer, longer...
I purchased, new, a GLE 550e plug-in hybrid. The Mercedes has been the worst vehicle ownership experience of my life. The vehicle has had transmission problems since it was new, it developed a leak in the rear differential a few months in, the air suspension failed at 40,000 km, there is a recall notice for the fuel pump control unit and I just received a letter indicating that the air conditioning compressor might fail prematurely. Worse than the technical problems, is the dismissive attitude of Mercedes customer service that says the transmission jolts and lurches that I continue to experience are normal for a $100,000 luxury vehicle. Not to mention that the electric range is much less than what was advertised when I ordered it.
That sounds horrible! I know the 550e had their share of issues as it was one of the first MB attempts at PHEV and only had about 10 miles all electric range. Have you got Mercedes corporate involved? They definitely should stand behind their product!
I would recommend getting in touch with your salesperson and GM at the dealership. I got a brand new 23 GLA 45 AMG in July of this year and I had so many issues. The car has been in the service department longer than I've been driving the car. The GM at my dealership was a great help and I got notice yesterday from Mercedes they are buying back the car. After one week since I spoke to the GM at my dealership, she got me very fast results on the buyback. I'm very happy!
Im from Toronto, Canada. MB here also hv bad customer service, esp the service dept, my left air suspension failed within warranty period, they said its not included due to wear and tear, so i paid over $1500 to fix it, after a week the right side failed, i checked my warranty and this obv. is manufacture defect. They fix it for free, then my question is why u charge me first time? No refund no credit, no apologized, nothing!
@@MattTheCarguy They both have around 40 miles all electric. The BMW has a 3.0L 6 Cylinder engine with nearly 500 HP vs a punny 4 cylinder in the benz....It also has air suspension standard and hands free highway assistant up to 85 mph.
@@pete23234 power sounds impressive especially that BMW understates their power. Mercedes does have 10 more miles on electric only. 48 vs 39 [9] but cant wait to get behind a wheel of one.
What, do you work for BMW? GLE is the better choice. 48 miles vs 39 was my reason to order the GLE. Both have nice interiors, but in the world of PHEV 48 miles is only surpassed by the Range Rover that is $50K more expensive.

Also not sure where you are getting your info. It says on the Mercedes website 38 miles. Most people in the BMW have reported close to 50 of actual range fyi. The GLE is a huge heavy SUV...I passed on it because of it's 4 cylinder and it has less power in EV mode as well. Most americans drive less than 40 miles per day anyways. I had 2000 ML430. It was a tank. The only issue I had with it were squeaky brakes.

Nice review! Thank you!
Thank you!
I just bought the GLC 300e; great car. "Only" 313 horsepower. It's enough for the lighter car. I love it.
Congratulations! Sounds like a nice SUV. We dont have it here in USA.

Thats correct!
Do you think Mercedes will bring this model again for 2025 ?
Why not?
They need to upgrade the dash to match the new 2024 E-Class.
maybe with the full redesign Mercedes will update it.

Hope MB has taken the lesson from 550e
Its the best plug in hybrid if you pretend the way better X50e doesn't exist lol
How is it better? X5 has half the range. Now I haven't driven one yet so I dont have experience with one. Hopefully very soon.
