HUMORAL RESPONSE IMMUNITY-B cells, plasma cells & antibodies. Agglutination of antibodies & antigens

- Learn the humoral immune response. This is the response of B cells. I explain how B cells are activated, what clonal selection is and the role of memory and plasma cells. Learn the structure of antibodies and how these agglutinate (agglutination) to enable phagocytes to more easily engulf and destroy pathogens.

this is probably the best biology video/youtube channel on youtube. Honestly
awww thank you so much ☺ That is so kind of you to say. So glad you like it!!
i beg to differ
@@rattagour who else is better?
@@yujirohanma203 both are great but free science lessons more to the point. She explains very well but sometimes 10 minute videos on one subtopic may feel a bit daunting

Explained this SO MUCH better than my teacher !! I’m so ready for my test in a week, thank you
Good luck, hope the test went / goes well!!!@
extremely helpful video Miss Estruch. Thanks a lot!
You're very welcome!
Glad it helped you :)
i will never forget your help
So pleased it made an impact 😊

what are macrophages then? are they part of the humoral response?
They are a type of phagocyte involved in phagocytosis
Do the cells that are being cloned have both antibodies and antigens, and why would this be an advantage to the cell?
the cloned cells are antibodies with the antigen inside I think. this is an advantage because the antibodies have the antigen to the virus and are specific so can detect and destroy the virus quickly- a faster immune response.
hi miss!! just wondering, does agglutination only happen to bacterial cells?
also, would it do anything to reduce the pathogen damaging body cells as they are clumped together and not so spread out around the body etc..?
and last question, I don't think its on the spec, but in some things I've read it mentions 'antibodies neutralise antigens' - what does this entail?
thanks so much!!!
Hello,
Great questions!
Agglutination will with any antibodies regardless of what it is bound to, including if it is just an allergic reaction to pollen for example!
Agglutination can prevent some damage. This is because whilst the pathogen is bound and trapped with the antibodies it is unable to bind to/enter the host cells so it cannot damage the cell or release toxins into the cell.
Neutralisation is referring to the point above. While pathogens are bound to antibodies they are unable to bind to host cells and release toxins, so in this sense, we say they have been neutralised.
I hope that helps :)
