@@injuredtabletennisplayer1474 i mean, everything from the rackets to the balls to the serves back then is illegal now, we're just here to see the amount of skill and technique these players had back in the day that would go on to define every generation after them
@@VinhNguyen-fh8qp LGL¨s only skill was serving, not even third ball attacking.Put him in Europe and top players will figure out how to beat him in a year.
True sportsmanship and exciting. Finally get to watch them in their prime. Looks like they have more lethal/complicated serves for kill setups but only see power and speed now.
That is not the most awkward thing. Check his middle and ring fingers on the back of the racket when he serves, they would be curled. But when he drives a topspin, his fingers are straight against the racket BH. Changing the fingers like that takes time and does not guarantee a perfect hit. But he was a genius and was looking for various techniques to develop.
real sportmanship from samsonov!! l like him
2:05 that's a sick serve
Illegal now too.

I could see the mutual respect and sportmanship from both sides. What a match.
Still, those hidden service´s and constant twidling the paddle really confused Samsonov in way that made it look stupid.

2:06 what a serve.....
REVERSE PENHOLD SERVE , Iever see wang hau tutorial
Why do we have to wait 21 years to watch Liu Guoliang in 720p50?
I'm a big fan of both players.
I feel like table tennis back then was more enjoyable to watch. Matches nowadays seem monotonous to me. Alas...
😊
Why did Samsanov change his shirt after the 1st set?
Sweat? 21 set games used to go on pretty long
2:06 what the..... D:

First comment and like
liu's rpb looks a little awkward..
He was the pioneer of the rpb, the technique wasn't perfected until ma lin and wang hao's generation
Rpb didn't work with the 38mn ball.Ditto for the backhand banana flip.
@@dickn.ormous1064 It couldve worked. No one knows. The technique wasnt perfected yet.
@@dickn.ormous1064 It pretty much works ) Today you can still get 38-mm balls and try it for yourself. But it does require more accuracy.
