The point is people are being let into the US who are not assimilating to or respecting the local culture. It doesn't matter if it's Haitians, and it doesn't matter if eating cats is the exact behavior. Those are irrelevant to the underlying point. Facts do matter, and it's important to get them straight, but don't use that as an excuse to ignore the central point and the concerns of residents, as Vance correctly pointed out.

Trump made the remarks hours after Springfield Mayor Rob Rue told MSNBC that he is "surprised" that Trump and his 2024 running mate JD Vance are continuing to double down on pushing the debunked claim that the Haitian population in Springfield has been eating pet cats and dogs.
"But they're campaigning and they're making decisions in the moment," Rue said. "We've asked before, we'll continue to ask, we need help, not hate. We need peace, and asking the leaders of the national stage to speak well of our city and to understand the way their words and the impact that it has had on our city."

And if the facts won't convince you, just use common sense... why would you steal a neighbor's pet to eat? People aren't starving in Springfield. The pet owner would call the police, and it's hardly worth the hassle when you can get a chicken already plucked and cleaned and ready to toss on the grill.
The lady who Vance uses as an "example" has come forward and apologized to the Haitians and her neighbors. Her cat was found alive and well in her basement....🤦♂️
I'd love to see a claim thats been verified by anything other than "oh my neighbor's brother's girlfriend said..."

I would say, for not answering the question directly, that was a damn good way to answer the question. these reporters need to think before asking.
