I had such a blast fishing with you bro!! Can't wait to get out there and get on some more crabs and fish!!! Keep the epic videos coming! Cannot wait to see what you have in store for 2022!!!!
Nice boat man.
@@bentaylor4570 thanks!
Hey by the way i would want to see more of how you did the cabin fiberglass. I don’t own a boat but i like to live vicariously. I watch a diy sailboat video series “sail life” where he does a bunch of this. I was curious how you got the bend in the roof and what was the trade off with using acrilic instead of glass. Sorry this was so long. Maybe you could even do another video series of your own. If you do send me a message i will follow
@@bentaylor4570 the bend was via bent lamination, I was able to do my fiberglass work in a way that put the arch into it using a couple forms. The plastic windows are so that I can cut them myself, and save a lot of money versus glass. They work extremely well and the only drawback is that you cannot use wipers. I have found wipers unnecessary due to the slope of the windows and the rainx treatment I gave them
@@christianfilloux Great video Christian and Matt (as always). Love your Pilot House on your Arima. I have a Arima 17 ft Sea Chaser and have been looking and thinking of something similar the last few years, but have been unsuccessful. You are a genius. Can you let me know or point me in the right direction so I can built something similar on my 1987 Arima? I would appreciate that so much, thank you. Great job! 🥰
Those traps are legit, American ingenuity
I really like that design for a cabin on his boat.
He made it, he’s a genius 🤓
That’s awesome! A crab limit. So nice!
Christians a cool dude! Super chill, more vids with him!
The man is just beast ripping off crab heads alive and curb stomping these crabs. LMAO dope AF.
I find it awesome that’s your wife supports you and your hobby
It's nice to see someone actually taking only what they need to be happy. You are a good person.
The orange stuff, that’s the fat and that’s really good with rice! (steamed)
I usually take that and use the crab head as a bowl and mix everything up and eat it.
Most experts recommend cleaning and discarding that material as he is doing. Reason being that is the part of the crab more likely to contain toxins and pollution.
@@4stringmanagmaildcom typically that is where a lot of the domain acid is found, but in the winter months it's not as much of a problem.
@@4stringmanagmaildcom yea if you eat 100 crabs in a week, but if you eat a few a month, won't do anything to your body.
@@eyebeebak In my state, WA, they recommend discarding. One crab or 100. But we all roll the dice how we want to.
I loved this episode. So real, so good. Imma hafta get me some of that merch at some point here. I think you're my fav channel on youtube my dude. Definitly way up there anyway. Best to you and your fam bro.
It is godly blessing you have your wife fishing and working beside you making healthy meals and occupied.
Haha
The “guts” 11:42 to 11:45 are most delicious. U should try them. Many Asian countries love this creamy stuff. Some call them roe.
He tried
He no likey
He Mac&Cheese tastebuds are in the early development stage.
So
Lets give the youngstah some time.
I screamed like a bitsh when he flicked the roe off the crab. holy fuck, man. That's the best part of the crab.
They're called tamales, and yes it's delicious. He just don't know.
@@J3unG Lol, he's a mac and cheese guy, but man I was pissed when he flicked the roe!
@@J3unG I did the same. But his wife is Asian, that lady should of stomped out, slap him around and scream at him 🤣😂
im loving the diy pilot house
Shout out to Christian. Awesome Pilot House dude!! Matt adding salt makes the water "Harder" and seems to boil more vigorously with more steam. Your plate idea is great!! Awesome vid as usual!!
Thank you! I appreciate the kind words. It was a really fun project and great day fishing!
Salt doesn't evaporate with water so it doesn't add anything to the flavour. Salt water actually has a higher boiling point so it makes it take longer to reach a boil. Also, you can just snip the sharp parts off of the crab for storage. That way you can reduce waste and bag as many crabs as possible. Hope that helps :)
Adding salt to water increases the boiling temp. So yea it will a bit longer but the water is a higher temp and cooks faster
quick question, if salt doesnt evaporate at all, why do windows, doorknobs, anything metal have so much corrosion near the beach? im just wondering. the sea spray isnt making it to the metal fixtures, so the salt must be getting to it somehow.
@Stacy Sanchez Great question! Because the water that reaches structures wasn't evaporated but carried through the air. Fine mists of salt water when waves crash or ocean foam called spume are so light that the wind can blow salt water droplets to said structures.
@@ImJayceeYO Very nice informative post!
@@ImJayceeYO Today i've learned!
Funny though, where i live there are no crabs at all and also i dont even fish nor do camping, but i just love to see Fisherman's Life!
Captain is a handy fellow!
So cool your friend has a Univ. of St. Thomas shirt on which is my alma mater! Go Tommies!!
Roll Toms!!!
I need a video of you now thawing, warmed up, and eating them! I’m super curious how it taste preserved and warmed back up!!
At the store you buy them frozen
Not that great to my taste. When we thaw ours we will use it in crab cakes or crab bisque but not as a main course. The consistency changes. Be interesting to hear his opinion.
Leave in fridge for a day to thaw then reheat as you wish or eat cold
@@DG-xj7pm i do not, we buy them fresh.
Don’t thaw them, throw the meat still frozen in a hot pan with lots of butter, when they are heated up and starting to get close throw in some onions, and some mushrooms, carmelize the onions and set it all aside on a plate. [you can use them for a ton of recipes from here, but the rest is how I use most of my leftover crab] In the pan start some eggs, when they get close to being done as an omelette, throw in the cheese to melt, when it’s melted throw in the mushrooms, onions, crab, and diced Roma tomatoes (I remove the snot and seeds before dicing), add some avocado slices, fold over, top with a little sour cream and if you want your favorite salsa (I prefer Herdez roasted, red or green) and serve.
Crab meat omelettes the next day are great way to use the extra crab meat.
(And we ALWAYS take the meat out of the shell before freezing. If you are gonna save longer than a few days we put em in a brine solution to preclude freezer burn--in theory--because we never have so much we aren’t gonna eat it within two weeks [we thought we had too much once and brined most of it, but it was gone in ten days]).
y'all's cinder block garden and backyard in general are cute af.
The Fly Shop hat, homie knows what’s up.
Yessir!
Dude, I have been watching you for a while. You have come a long way since your seasick days. Thanks for the entertainment.

Thanks for sharing! and Christian is quite the craftsman! Beautiful work!
The miso in the shell is the best part! We steam it whole, add some rice inside the head and go to town!

Your friend should get into building boats. He did an excellent job.
I just want to say I been here since day 1 , I have watched so many videos on my restless nights that I couldn’t go to bed and the videos have helped get through a lot of stuff through life as well. Thank you so much

Excellent job! I often see a second seal put on those bags in case one leaks air.
Thanks!
Matt...another great video...Chris is very creative and handy making that cabin from scratch. You have such a great life...you go, Matt!!!
If you will put about 1 and 1/2 cups of vinegar in the water before you steam them, the meat comes out of the shell easier. works for eggs also.
Vinegar no bueno

I like this dude.
He built that pilothouse himself? Dang that madddd impressive
Them guts is gravy on the rice! 🤩😩
Gr8 vid Matt! Merry Christmas!!!
Absolutely love your Channel never miss any content and no adding salt to your water when you steam does not add any flavor all salt gets left behind it's the same as distilled water
Crab guts would make great fertilizer in your garden too
Making me want to go crabbing man. Haven't got out there too much this year, Between kids, and salmon and steelhead, its been a busy year. Glad I at least have been able to watch your content to keep me sane on those days I can't be out there in nature. Killer vid as always man.
Thanks so much Matt! Your videos always have so much good information and tips. Enjoy watching you get out there and catch. Let's Go!
Thx much fun to watch.
Absolutely love Matt’s content I want to meet him and fish with him so bad. Living in Oakland can only hope to meet him some day
Very nice. Really have enjoyed all your vids, bro.
Thanks for this episode. I love watching your content. I live on the east coast so I have to buy Dungeness crab at a seafood market. One way I like to cook them is in beer, vinegar, Old Bay and crushed red pepper flakes. The beer to vinegar ratio is 1:1. I usually buy two crabs. I clean them with the shell on. While I'm cleaning them, I pour 2 bottles of Corona and about the same amount of white vinegar into a pot to which I add the Old bay, usually about a cup and the red pepper flakes, usually two to three tablespoons. Once the base is boiling I put the crabs in until their done. Sometimes I'll have shrimp that I'll also put in the same pot after I've taken out the cooked crab. You can really add anything to the pot like corn on the cob and sausage.
That sound incredible!
crab season is best season. i just love those videos
Cool video, Matts. Thanks for sharing your tips on vacuum sealing the crab clusters. I never thought of using plates, it's a nice idea. I do the same with the clusters, I give them a good scrub. As for steaming, I use sea salt and some vinegar. The vinegar helps keep the meet from sticking to the shell.
Good tip, Q
That's how moms did it

You are Zen my brother. I learned without knowing it. Thank you so much for doing you.
Thank you for sharing.
Welp....you definitely clean your crab different than I normally do. I have done it your way , but I tend to like the taste of the two center sections better , if I cook them with the shells on. The yellow ( butter ) inside is actually pretty sweet , so when you cook them with the shells on , that seeps into the center sections a bit. Those two center sections are a bit more bland tasting then the legs and claws. The " Butter " just helps a bit with the flavor. BUT.......awesome catch dude!!
Yes, definitely helps the body meat when you cook whole.
Yes, cook whole crab in ocean water. I boil the shells and strain them for crab juice-flavor which I use in my bisque.
@@sacvibe that is what i do as well for bisque. boiling the shells makes an amazing stock!!!
Retired Clinical Pharmacist here, 13:25 The Salt would only make the water boil at a higher temperature and also would only season the crab if they were actually in it, The Vaporization point of Sodium is 900C or about 1800F, not enough to season anything. But very good question!
Love it when you and Philosophy D fish! Need more!
🦀 !Crab masters at work! 🦀
Nice catch! I see you have the Little Chief too... that's the smoker I grew up with! Good seeing Fisherman's Wife again too! Glad the crabbing is picking up. My dad has limited three out of three times recently!
